Well after the dismal failure off the last bakeoff, I expect better participation this time :D I promise no piping bags, meringues or anything hard! If you've never joined before - just jump straight in and feel free to ask any questions, no matter how silly it may be

This week we are going to an old favourite - the humble chocolate chip cookie. Now I know that some claim to have the best choc chip cookie recipe EVER - and if you do - please use it! :D If not, use the one I provide and see how you go.

As usual, creativity is encouraged and see what yummy combinations you cane come up with - macadamia white choc chunk are a personal fave! My address is available if you want to send me some

OK - the recipe:

Choc Chip Cookies

Makes 28
Ingredients
125g butter, at room temperature
½ cup caster sugar
½ cup brown sugar, lightly packed
½ tsp vanilla essence
1 egg, lightly beaten
1½ cups self-raising flour, sifted
½ cup Dark Choc Bits
Method
1 Using an electric beater, mix butter, sugar and vanilla essence in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat until combined. Fold in flour, then the Choc Bits.
2 Line two oven trays with baking paper. Shape tablespoons of mixture into balls and place about 6cm apart on the trays.
3 Cook in a moderate oven (180C) for 10 to 12 minutes, or until biscuits are lightly browned. Remove from oven and stand for 5 minutes before turning out onto wire racks to cool.
4 Store in an airtight container.
Tip: These biscuits can be made up to four days ahead or frozen for up to two months.

:smiliedance: I've been looking for a choc chip cookie recipe... haven't managed to unpack mine yet (only lived in this house for four months, can't expect too much!!)

I had a busy day baking christmas goodies today (chocolate pistachio fudge, honey cinnamon pine nut shortbread and spice cookies), so I'll see if I've got the energy to bake these before the weekend.

Happy baking!

I cheated - the first batch looked so boring when they came out that I pushed choc chips in the top before cooking... I want to see chocolate, as well as eat it!

Now, I must go and try one! (and steal five minutes for a shower, been too busy!!)
