View Full Version : Bond Loan + Single Parent moving
:wave:
Well, we were given the notice to leave the house yesterday ( the house has been sold and the new owners want to use it - how rude :laughing: ), so now i have til the 17th Jan to find a new place. :eek:
Since i'm short (oh so short) on cash, i was considering getting a Bond Loan fromt he Dept of Housing.
Has anyone had any experience with that?
Also, any single parents, did you have any problems finding a place, especially if you're not working ( have a creepy feeling that I might have a hard time finding something). :confused:
My current Real estate/Propert Manager is very good and promised to help me out (eg with References or with a suitable place...)

we havent had a bond loan but will be probably getting one if we find a house soon.ur ex-housemates got one and they didnt have to cough up that much either and they got the 2nd house they applied for:thumbsup:
Im applying for rentals at the mo - didnt get the first one as the owner decided to sell it instead (rather not get it than have to move in 6 months again anyway), and i should find out about the next one tomorrow. I havent actually seen the inside of the current application, im a 3 hour drive away and decided to take the risk. The outside has been done up so i think its safe to assume the inside is also liveable. Could be a bit of an adventure!
Re the bond: I have enough set aside that i can pay it all if i absolutely have to, but will be trying for a bond loan first. They say they wont do it if the rent is more than 60% of your income, which it is because im not currently receiving rent assistance. Once i get rent assist i will be in the bracket, but i cant get rent assist until i have a lease. Vicious circle!
Going by what i read here does that mean they might agree to loan a chunk rather than the whole?

hi :wave:
i got a bond loan from the housing department about 4 years ago, i found it great they can even do the 2 weeks rent that you need aswell....
Interest free and i had to pay back i think $20 a month till it was paid back.... and also if you cant make a payment you just call and let them know and they dont have any fees and charges if the payment is late....
Hope this helps good luck with moving.
hi Guys :wave:
thanks for all the replies! You have helped me alot! :thumbsup:
Sure sounds all promising now, especially of they can pay the whole lot...but you can only apply for it once you get the place? How long does the Housing Dept take until they approve the application????:confused:
I will start looking now, but probably wont move til mid Dec/ begin of Jan, so hopefuly i can save "some" monsey til then ( yeah right :laughing:
where abouts are you looking at moving where are you now
I'm in Nundah at the moment, hoping to stay around this area if possible
Well, I enquired with the Dept of Housing today and its looking :thumbsup:
All i need to do is wait for approval from the realestate :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: and then i can apply for the Bond Loan - too easy !
Is't the 2 weeks rent in Qld only for if your been in jail or in a shelter for more then 28days. And you don't have to pay the rent back just the bond loan? And you can only get it once . Or has it changed???? I got a bond loan and the rent when I was in a Dv shelter around 2 years back? Thinking about moving back there.
HI Kat82
the Bond Loan is for everyone who's eligble to apply as per their website, However if you want to apply for a Rental Grand (2 weeks one off payment) you can only apply if
you meet at least one of the following conditions:
you have spent more than 28 continuous days in a department approved centre (e.g. emergency housing, a women's shelter) or in accommodation arranged by an approved centre and are applying for assistance within 14 days of leaving an approved centre;
you are a discharged prisoner who has served at least 12 months in a correctional facility and are applying for assistance within three months of your release;
you have been discharged from a mental health facility and have been a resident of the facility for at least 12 months and are applying for assistance within three months of your release;
you are currently subjected to domestic violence and have appropriate supporting documentation; or
you are exiting a community-based rent scheme to move into private rental accommodationfor more info:
