This is probably going to sound pathetic compared to what some of you ladies are up against but i have a really strong addiction to coke. I dirnk way to much of it and it isnt good for me at the best of times and now that i am really trying to loose weight i feel that it and chocolate will be my downfall. I use coke to relax when im stressed or when im lonley or just when i feel like having it. Chocolate is pretty much in the same boat. Not quiet as bad with it though but coke it my big problem.
I was recently on diet where i couldnt have it and i was only on it for 3 days but the cravings damn near killed me.I dont want to give it up all together but i want to get back to a manageable level. I have no idea what that is tho. I was at the stage where i was drinking 2l a day+ not quiet that bad now but i can still go througt 3-4 cans a day.
I guess im lost as to were to even start with this.
Anyone else had to get it under controll. I feel so stupid for even posting this because i know its not a drug or alcohol or anything that bad but i need to cut back and i dont know how.
:hugs: don't feel silly, coke is very addictive  DH gets in the worst moods when he doesn't have any...and I have to admit that I'm not much better. If it's in the fridge I'll drink that rather than the water that I make DS drink, even if I have to sneak the coke so he doesn't see :o
The easiest way I have found to break the habit (coz it is partly habit too) is to get it all outta the house then distract yourself. Do things that you don't normally do...so if you normally get a coke then go on the computer when the boys are asleep get a bottle of water and sit outside with a magazine...or even a kids coloring book if thats all thats around.
Once you get over the cravings (abot a week) and into the habit of drinking water instead things will seem easier. I would recommend not getting take away for a while tho, coz thats usually where I fall back into old habits and order coke.
Good luck, hopefully we can both beat this coke addiction before christmas :)

:hugs: hi,i just wanted to let you know you are not alone.. i drink about 6 to 8 litres a day.. my doctor has told me i need to cut down. i find it hard and i get head aches and all sorts of stuff. but dont feel ashamed because you are not alone..:hugs:
Its not silly at all. I used to be addicted to pepsi. I would drink litres of the stuff a day.
I would crave it, get up in the night and drink another litre before I went back to bed....
The thing that made me stop was going the dentist. He showed me a picture of my back teeth under a microscope. There were over 20 little holes in my back teeth!
The pepsi was litterally eating my teeth away.
I stopped then and there. I didnt want to lose my teeth. Its so hard stopping, the cravings are so strong arent they.
Think about what it is doing to your teeth. Never ever think you can just have a sip, or half a can and then no more. This just won't happen. You know how bad the cravings get.
Don't buy it, dont even go down that aisle in the supermarket.
Good luck with it and let us know how you are getting on every day okay......

I used to have a problem with Coke (and i have a heart condition that is made worse with caffiene ). My ex used to only drink it. No water, no coffee - rarely juice. Pretty much the only drinking liquid in our house would be coke. So i know that addiction well.
I broke the habit by moving to diet coke (well coke zero would work now) - and moving down slowly. Just like other addcitions, Coke is hard to break - so if you slowly step down it makes things easier.
So yeah, I changed to diet, then would slowly take out 1 drink a day and replace it with a juice or water...
It is not silly - no addiction is silly...

 :hugs:
Similar addiction here! I probably only drink it a few times a week, i'm more of an addict on SPRITE. But the sugar in that is just as bad!
I barely get 2 litres of water in a day though, that's my goal. Right now it's about 1 litre a day.
I buy one of those 12 litre water bottles the giant ones, and set it on a table and I remind myself to visit it at least 5 times a day with a tall glass. I'm trying.... lol
It's hard remembering....
But it's so easy to just drink sprite... lol
Well there's my addiciton!:D
Dont for a second feel silly. I am actually glad you brought it up! I too am so very addicted to coke - lets face it there is nothing quite like it. But that isn't to say that it is good for us...damn!
I too have been trying to lose weight and found that no matter how much I exercise or eat right the weight wont shift - well quick enough. I was still drinking coke and heaps of it too. Just over the last month or so I swithched to Coke Zero and because it didn't really taste exactly the same I drunk less of it. It still has that fizz and more or less the taste, but just not as appealing. Slowly I have weened myself off it by making sure I always have really cold water on hand...just about icy. For me that quenches the craving long enough to distract my self from wanting a proper coke. I still have Coke Zero, but can do with 1 glass a day (usually at night). I finally seen a difference in my weight - dropped quite a bit actually. Not saying that it was just giving up coke, I am still exercising and eating right too, but i know that not drinking coke has helped a great deal.
Just take it a step at a time, try the Zero range - Sprite its quite good!
Good luck with it all. Be sure to let us know how you are going
How are you getting on lately desertress??:hugs:

Its not silly at all, I know exactly what you mean. Im sitting here drinking my 4th can of diet coke for today :o also while I was away on holiday I managed to drink a 2 litre bottle in about 15 minutes without even realising. Now that I think about it at my party someone was talking about getting me lollies and chocolate but said I've been eating well and one of my friends said "You should've just gotten her a huge bottle of diet coke, nothing would make her happier" then I said "Hey! I dont even drink that much of it" and she said "Yes you do! You're ALWAYS drinking it" Sorry that was a pretty retelling  but the point is i drink too much diet coke :o :o
