I want to get the maxi rider II for my dd but today in toysrus they had the maxi rider on sale for $199.
What is the difference between the maxi rider and the maxi rider II? i think i remember reading some posts about the maxi rider not being as safe but i cant find it!

I've currently been looking at both. The main difference between the 2 is that the Maxi Rider II can be used with the H harness, increasing the time that your child is in a proper harness and not just a seatbelt iykwim. The II also has the additional "extras" eg cup holders etc.
When i was asking stores about them they mentioned the H harness as being the major benefit in getting the II. I also think Toysrus is the only place selling the originals now - everywhere else has gone to the II's.

it is nowhere near as safe. its going chaep because its being deleted and the maxirider II is taking over. the old one didnt do very well in regards to side impacts- the dummies head hit the car door/ window- which has been fixed in the maxiriderII, i am way too tired to say my usual spiel so do a bubhub search for MAXIRIDER II and it will show posts with that word in it. there are HEAPS.
just because something is cheap does not make it good, there is a reason they made the II because the older one was just NOT SAFE enough.
fork out the $359, its your childs life you could be saving, I would pay millions to know I chose the safest seat for my kids(but it only cost me $718)

You can use the H harness with the MaxiRider 1 but it would mean that you will not be able to tether the actual seat to the anchor point which is very dangerous in the event of an accident because the child could end up crushed between the weight of the seat being projected forward and the harness. The Mark II has an extra clip which means that you can have both the H harness (or protecta harness as they call it) and the seat tethered to the anchor bolt.

The MaxiRider II also has better side wing protection which means less head trauma in the event of an accident compared to the Mark I.

Hmmm, that's all I can think about right now - preggo brain and very tired.

great info - I had no idea that there was a maxirider II. I thought I bought the maxirider but based on all this info it looks like I have the mark II - thank goodness! I got mine from bubs baby store with the H harness also. It has the button, not the clip to tighten the straps. I can't recommend it highly enough although I think the two cup holders on the one seat was a bit of an overkill. LOL. And I love the fact that the arm rests lift out of the way when you want to take your child in or out of the car.
