Hello!

My son Thomas was born on 8 November 06 and is 2 weeks tomorrow.. He was born at 39 weeks 1 day weighing in at 9lb 2 oz and 58cms long, HC 37cm.

He is feeding well, very contented baby and only cries when he is hungry!

I also have a 13 month old DD, Gracie.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Hi

Thanks for starting the thread mum & bubs.

Charlize Jade was born on the 2nd of November nearly three weeks ago! She was 5p 13oz, 49cm long.

I have a DS who will be two on the 30th of November.

Charlize is a pretty good baby, feeds well but has a bit of wind at the moment. She only gets me up two to three times a night which is good.

Bailey has been pretty good with her but seems to get naughty when I am feeding her.

Look forward to talking to you all and sharing our babies milestones.

YAy there is a few of us here!

I really hope we all continue chatting and sharing our stories with each other even tho our pregnancies are over, I love hearing about all of you and look forward to hearing all about our november bubs as they grow!!

Anywho

Mikaylah Louise was born on the 9th of November at 39 weeks and 2 days, weighing 8 pound 7 ounces and was 51cm long with a head circ of 35.

She is absolutely gorgous and has so far been such a wonderful bub! Im loving having a little baby again and she is just so precious.
I also have a 3 year old son Mason who has not been so precious since our return from hospital, but im sure he will get used to the changes sooner or later, hopefully sooner rather then later tho haha.

Anyway best get off and do somet hings while I am lucky enough to have both asleep hehe.

Hope to talk with you all soon

 Hi Everyone:wave:

Excellent idea having this thread I just hope I can keep up this time lol.

Well our new son arrived 2nd November at 4pm, he was 7lb 2oz, 48cm long and a good set of lungs.

His sleep pattern is so out of whack but I'm just going with the flow for a little longer, I figure if he hasn't settled into some sort of routine by 6 weeks then I'll have to work on it.

My 3 1/2yr old dd is slowly adjusting to having a little brother, actually she has been very loving and wants to help but when the focus is away from her oh boy are we in trouble. Something we are still working on and she is getting better.

How is everyone feeling sleep wise?

I keep finding myself asleep in the recliner chair with ds in my arms about 3 hours after we sat there for his feed. lol. Poor hubby must be wondering if I am ever going to sleep in our bed again.

My other question is those of you that have had a ceasar, how many weeks has it been since you had the op and how are you physically feeling now. Also are any of you driving yet?

My scar still feels a bit tender and just above the scar is very tender sometimes (sounds weird I know) it has been 3 weeks since the op.

I only ask all this because I have no idea of what I should be expecting and find it helpful to know what other people are experiencing.

Well thats enough from me. Talk to you all again soon.

Hey hun!

My 3 and a half year old son has been a bit of a handfull since our arrival home with new bub too, I think its a hard adjustment for them, I try to make an allowance but there is only so much I can tollerate , He has started to try and hurt her by squeezing her arm and such , so I have to keep a super close eye on him at all times. Its very trying with him at the moment but I am hoping it will all pass soon as he gets more used to having her around.

As for sleeping I have been fine, I have been lucky enough to be blessed with another great sleeper, I was sooo sure I would get a bad one this time as my son was so good, But SO FAR Mikaylah has been an absolute angel as well, I only get up to feed her once through the night, so thats making life much easier.

I too had a c-section, 2 weeks ago today actually, I started driving again on Monday, and I am feeling brilliant, my scar is still a tad tender to sort of press into, but other then that I feel great, In saying that though, This is my 2nd c-sec and I think I have healed ALOT faster this time round, I think I was more like you described yourself last time round, where as this time i can hardly believe I had a c-sec just 2 weeks ago.
Just take it as easy as you can ( i kno easier said then done with a newborn and a 3 year old haha) and try not to overdo it.

Hope I have answered your questions hehe

Hi All

It's nice to have a new place to chat about our babies!

Well Stella arrived on 31 October so she's not technically a November bubba. She was due on the12th of November so that's why we're here!

She has been mainly sleeping with some unsettled periods and the occassional feeding frenzy. At these times she just wants to breastfeed for an hour or so. I'm not sure how we'll cope when DP is back at work and it's dinner time?

Stella sleeps with us - co sleeping. She seems to have the day/night thing sorted and I can feed her lying down in the middle of the night. I still need the light on to get her attached properly but I know she'll get better at doing it herself.

My other kids are coping well. Nearly 3 year old DD is as irrational as ever. She likes to say the baby loves her. 6 year old DS is a honey - he loves holding Stella and we took her to school for show and tell and he very proudly showed her off!

I have the occasional tantrum - a few tears but that's normal!!

Kirsten - I hope you start to feel better soon. It takes ages for the scar to feel normal. I don't think it's a problem as long as it's not looking infected. 3 weeks is still early days. It's major surgery and you just need time to recover. It just makes everything more difficult physically so look after yourself.

Best wishes to everyone

Hi

Well on the topic of sleep, Charlize was really good for the first two weeks but is now suffering from wind which keeps her awake at night. Last night I was up and down to her from 10pm to 1am than i decided enough was enough and put her in bed with me.

I too find myself asleep in the recliner after I have been feeding her. Hopefully she will sleep for me tonight because I think I am overtired. My fault as I have been at christmas shopping the last two days while Bailey has been at daycare. Other than that she is a great baby and soooo cute!

Talk soon

This morning my 6 yr old DS told me that he plays a game with my best friend's daughter in which she's a fairy and he's an elf. There's another little fairy called Stella - after our new baby!

Well DP who's supposed to be off work this week, went in to work at about 9pm last night and came home at 2.30am. (Better than the all nighters he was doing when I was pregnant!) So this morning I had to breastfeed, make lunch for my DS and take him to school, dress my DD and take her to creche - all by 9am. I didn't get much sleep either! Well it was broken sleep anyway...

My in laws will be here next week. They always expect me to cook for them and never help clean up or contribute in any way. And my MIL finds clothing in the gutter, washes it and gives it to us. Seriously she has found undies for DS in the gutter. I say thank you and send them to the op shop. We can afford to buy our kids new undies and my in laws have plenty of money too. They are just really stingey! Anyway I'm not looking forward to their visit and am determined not to cook for them. I have enough on my plate already!

Anyway, enough of that. Stella is lovely and growing more alert every day. I am so sad she's my last baby as she is so wonderful. I will just have to really enjoy her and my other children of course!

I hope everyone is doing ok on not enough sleep and enjoying their lovely babies!

Best wishes

Hi girlies!

Well I've managed to grab 5 mins to say hello to you all!

Thomas is doing really well. Feeding 4 hourly (you could set your watch by him) and sleeping at night between feeds. He's so gorgeous, and the first boy on my Dads side in 46 years!!

DD on the other hand is being a bit of a handful. She'll get used to her baby brother soon enough I hope!

Sounds like we all have contented bubbas! Not the typical scorpios!!

Hi all,

We've only been home from hospital for one night and are already having sleeping issues!

Little Anastasia is 5 days old and seems to be confused with day and night. She was up all night just screaming the house down. I fed her (multiple times, she only seems to take 10min and then refuses), I changed her, burped her, rubbed her back, she seems to have a bit of wind, we played with her and I think she just wanted to cry for fun in the end.

Mum, dad and bubba were all crying by the end of it. Now I've just woken up after a 3hr sleep and bubba is still out to it. She did this in hospital too. Awake all night and asleep all day.

I'm going to go wake her up and see if she'll feed and hopefully I can keep her up for a while.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for our sanity please!

I hear you Pinkie - Patrick has been doing the same thing with his feedking regime. 10 minutes at a time, bit of a rest and back at it again either 1 or 2 hours later.

I have tried waking him up to do the other side but he won't have a bar of it. Then I had other issues and after talking to a few people found that rather than trying to give him both sides each feed just to ensure that he empty's atleast one side.

The other thing I learnt is that some babies are fast feeders and that 10 mins is enough time for bubs to feed. Gee my daughter was never that fast  god she used to take an hour to feed.

On the sleep issue, well Patrick was the same for a few days after we got home but he has started realising when night and day are along with the fact that during the day I make him sleep in the living area of the house with all the noise and have him in a quiet dark area of the house at night. Apparently that helps them to differentriate (is that a word), you know what I mean.

Baileyjaysmum - I have found that Patrick sleeps better in bed with me too, only problem is I can only do that during the day and only 2 days of the week. There is just not enough room for hubby, dd, ds and I
The 2 days that I have are the days that dd is at daycare so Patrick and I snuggle back into bed once everyone has left the house and usually thats when I get a four hour sleep out of him.

We can hardly blame them can we, they were inside us for so long, must be a bit of shock to be on the outside.;)

Julzy - I went for my first drive today yipee. I still feel a bit tender and exceedingly tired but other than that I am on the mend.

Flib - Thanks I am feeling alot better within myself too. I must go back to the birth trauma thread and let them know how I am going. Goodluck with the inlaws, I have the same kind of inlaws myself.

Wizzfizz - I am jealous, 4 hour sleeps oh I wish. You must be gifted. Atleast one of us is getting a bit more sleep.

Catch you all later

Hi ya ladies,

I read about this thread the other day and forgot all about it. Was thinking the Due in November was getting quiet.

My Little man Liam was born on the 18th of November by Emergency c-section. We came home 4 days ago and settling in very well. Liam has his feed about every 3 hours and feeds very quickly. We had a few small issues with breastfeeding but help from my mum the midwife's and the Internet have helped. As my milk comes out so quick he tends to get a bit of wind and upset tummies especially late afternoon/night. The nappies we go through is amazing. At times we change one then we hear the thunder in his pants  He is a very content and only has two sessions in the 24 hours where it takes awhile to settle him.

Thankfully my husband tends to go to sleep after 3am so I get up to feed bubs around 11pm and 2am and Hubby happily takes him after Liams feed for nappy change and a settle. I can go back to bed. Thank goodness cause when hubby is asleep I tend to fall asleep sitting up and always wake up suddenly from jerking my neck.

My tummy is also tender above the scar and on the ends of the scar. Hurts very much when I have to sneeze cough or get up from bed. My ribs have been hurting as well, guess they are recovering from carrying a 10lb around with big feet that kicked them every day.

Anywoo great catching up. Will chat soon. Take care to all and enjoy every minute.

Hi again girls! Glad to see some of you on the thread! :smiliedance: Leesha will soon be joining us.. she's in labour yay!

Well I also see a few others share the same birthday as my little girl (2nd november) She is now just over 3 weeks old & I bet you can all agree with me just how fast time flies?? Seems like only yesterday I was due begging for this baby to come out but now I wish time would slow down a little (as i think this will be my last baby)

We are doing good. She sleeps very well! Only wakes me up about twice a night for a feed then goes back to sleep. Summer is very protective of her baby sister, when others try to come & looks she gets angry at them but still its very cute of her. She gets a bit naughty when it comes to feeding as she wants the boob too  then I usually end up with both of them on the boob. She is a chubby bubba! She fits both 0000 & some 000 already. It's good shes putting on weight though.

Well hope to chat with you all again real soon.

Mum&bubs I had to laugh when you said She fits both 0000 & some 000 already.
From birth Liam was in and still is a week later 000 and 00 depending on the shop they are from. A little sad as some of the 0000 were so cute.
I'm glad to hear Taliyah is putting on weight.

Take care

OMG I had the worst day today!

It started out OK! We went on our first outing to mass. Anastasia was still asleep when I woke her for a quick feed so she wouldn't need one during the service but she needed one half way through anyway. This was fine, I just went outside caus I'm not overly confident with the breastfeeding thing just yet.

As soon as we got home she wanted another feed and that continued ALL DAY! The longest between feeds was 2 hrs and they were all reasonably big feeds for her. She only settled for a maximum of about 30mins in between and was generally crying and grizzly all day.

She finally settled at about 6pm and now hasn't had a feed since 4pm (5hrs ago), I know she's due for one but i'm too scared to wake her incase she won't settle again.

I think she might have just had wind and thought that she was hungry when infact feeding was just compounding the problem. Or it could be that it was just so hot today in Brissie and she was uncomfortable. I really have no idea though.

Anyway, that's my whinge for the day!

I do feel better already just for typing this. I might head off for a sleep even though she'll just wake up the second my head hits the pillow:laughing:

Hi all

Its great hearing how each person is going with their babies and what their babies are doing. I am finding that some things that I worry about appear to be quite normal, due to reading, that some of you are going through the same thing. What a relief.

Mum&bubs - our babies were born on the same day but my ds is still not settling well. Last night he woke at 12.30am and didn't really go back to sleep until 2.30am awake again at 4am and again at 6.30am. This is obviously not a great system for me  especially when I also have a 3 1/2yr old who won't let me sleep during the day.

Kirra - my ribs were sore too after my c/s I figured it was from the doctors pushing and shoving trying to get ds out. At one stage I felt like they were going to push him out of my chest instead of my stomach.

Pinkie - the constant feeding is Anatasias way of building up your supply. They do it in bursts. There will also be a huge feeding frenzy around the 6 week mark and every 6 weeks from then on as that is generally when they have growth spurts. Its not spot on 6 weekly intervals but it gives you an idea.

I so wish Patrick would sleep longer than 3 hours just once would be nice. I would enjoy the rest while you can. She has probably had enough food for the day is very content hence why she has slept for so long.

Well my wonderful hubby has finally settled Patrick and put him to bed:smiliedance: . He has the magic touch (plus he doesn't smell of breast milk) I'm sure that is the reason. I am of for a shower and best get myself to bed incase we have another unsettled night.

I feel like I am  on my feet.

Take care everyone

Kirsten- Thanks so much for your replies! It helps heaps to hear advice or even just that other people are going through the same thing.

Anastasia has had a huge sleep in the evening (about 6 hrs) the last two days and i've had to wake her for a feed so I could go to bed. This was fine on Sun night but last night, she woke at 3am and didn't settle untill just now (9:30am) so I've had 3 hrs sleep and now need to get going for the day. Every time I thought she was asleep, I'd put her in the bassinette only for her to start crying again a minute later. I think she had wind because she did two big poos just before she finally went to sleep.

Feeding seems to quieten her down briefly but if she has wind, I'm worried that too much feeding will just compound the problem.

Does anyone know any more about this sort of thing. I'd hate to be shoving a boob in her face every hour for my sanity if it's making the issue worse and giving bubby pains in the tummy.

On a lighter note, I had my first baby free outing yesterday (bubs 1 week birthday) while nanny babysat. I was only gone for an hour but it was so nice not to have to deal with a crying baby for a few minutes. That's so terrible, caus she's only a week old:eek:

I'm sure things will improve!

Baby sleeping...ahhh! (sigh of relief)

Stella has been doing ok with the night sleeping. She feeds and goes back to sleep. Last night I fed her at 11pm when I went to bed, then 2am, 6am and 8am. She was really hungry this morning and is sleeping now.

Somehow I managed to do something to my neck and couldn't get up out of bed or even sit up. It was like being pregnant again and not being able to do stuff. It got better but has just turned into a dull ache in my neck shoulder and arm so now I have to try to sort it out. Of course breastfeeding makes it worse and that's my main activity at the moment!

I'm sorry to hear about the terrible C/S some of us have had. I had one with my first baby and found it incredibly traumatic and difficult to recover from. It really is hard. I've since had 2 wonderful vaginal births so it is possible if you want to try next time which you're probably not thinking about right now! It takes longer after a C/S to recover so look after yourselves!

Uh oh....baby crying. Time to go. Best wishes to everyone.

Hi Girls........
Thought i'd better join you all. Everyone sounds great apart from the usual tiredness etc etc.
Elektra and I are doing really, although we are not following a strict routine with feeds, sleeps etc. She will feed usually every three to four hours depending on how tired she is..........but she absolutely loves her daily bath and settles straight away after them.........
We also go out with her a lot which can get challenging from time to time.......but if I don't get out every day I would go stir crazy iykwim.

We have even been out to dinner a few times, although last night we didn't get to finish our wine as she started to yell the place down:laughing: not a good look.
When mum and I took her out to lunch at the sushi train, we could only scoff a few things down before we had to get out of there with her yells again.
What I have learnt to do so far in taking her out is that she needs a really long feed before hand till she falls asleep at the boob, then I wrap her up, put her in the pram and rock her back and forth until she's in that really deep sleep.........then we can get at least 2-3 good hours.

But she loves going on walks........babies are funny things where they love that movement of the pram, and if you stop then they yell, it's a really weird thing. I'm trying to shift the 31kg that I gained during this pregnancy so I am walking an hour a day. Although I did something really dumb 9 days after I had her and went for a 7km walk........boy oh boy did my c-sect scar feel nice (not) the next day. I think I really should have listened to the ob when she said to ease up for at least 3 weeks.

Breastfeeding so far has been filled with highs and lows......she is a great feeder but I got mastitis which was sooo nasty, and that was because of extreme engoregement. But I ploughed on through and now i'm doing well although my breasts/nipples are still sensitive. I'm hoping the bruised feeling will go away.......everyone says it will but I have a feeling it will stay with me.

Anyway...........sorry for the long winded post, I just thought i'd keep you all up to speed with my going ons. Will do personals later. ciao

Hi girls,

Today I am off to have the kids photo's taken. Thomas is going really well, the nurse came to see him yesterday, and at 3 weeks old, he's now 4.540g (10 pound), a gain of 700g since we left hospital so I'm really happy. He's sleeping well, although last night he just wanted to stay awake and play!

DD is more accepting of him n ow, giving him kisses on the head and helping me when I'm doing things with him. When she hears him crying, she's in the room before me!

My c/s scar split open at one end, but doc said that cause its not oozing or anything, just to put a bandaid on it and it should heal up in no time. I'm feeling good now, at the beggining I felt terrible.

Anyways, better pack the car - take care and kisses to all the bubbas!

Hi girls!

Kirrilie- I know it's sad about the 000 clothes! She only fits some though and they are just slightly big on her but still it's so different because Summer wasn't in 000 until she was 6 months old! lol. I have so many cute 0000 clothes for Taliyah so I am trying as hard as I can to make her wear them all

Pinkie- As it's already been mentioned it does sound like a growth sprout coming on with ur bub? Summer went through hers at 6 weeks & I nearly went crazy but it does soon ease up. They are just getting the supply right!

Kirstlea- Summer used to wake up at those odd hours too! But back then I didn't have to run after another toddler so I don't know how you do it. She would wake up at about 1am & not go back to bed until about 3.30am!!! I don't know how I managed! But I hope you get some sleep soon and bub gets used to knowing when its bed time.

Amber- you sound just like me! I have to get out of the house as much as possible too otherwise I would go a bit loopy. Taliyah loves walks- sometimes. She likes being in her pram but as soon as you stop she will scream the place down! Same with when she is in the car, if we stop at a red light or something she will scream, she likes the movement I think. I always pray when we are driving that we get no red lights! I curse every red light now

Ali- that's great bubba is putting on weight! Taliyah is off to her doctors appointment tomorrow so it will be good to see how much more weight she has put on. It's also nice to hear your DD is more accepting and is in the room before you- my DD is the same. As soon as she hears Taliyah she screams 'baby' and is off!! So cute though! Hope the photos turn out good!

Taliyah is 4 weeks old today  Where does the time go?? As I mentioned before we have a doctors appointment for her tomorrow so that should be good to see the changes since the last one. The past few days she has been very unsettled during the day- very happy in the morning she gives mum big smiles but at around lunch she always gets grizzy & it is hard to settle her.
Anyways speak to you all later
Krissy xx

Hi girls

Well my household has been full of excitment this week. DS dropped a paver on his toe on Tuesday morning and sliced the side of it nearly off. I panic rang 000 and than ended up spending 13hours at the mater childrens. It wasnt very good with a four week old. Anyway he was knocked out and ended up having six stitches. They were understaffed and thats why it told so long. Not good enough I reckon when my poor DS hadnt eaten since 8.00am that morning and didnt have his op till 8.00pm that night!!!

Anyway he is back to his usual self and he turned two today - god time flies. He would usually be a daycare today but kept him at home and we went to the health nurse today to get Charlize weighed. She is putting on the weight which is good. She is feeding like a trooper but still only in 0000!

I cant believe she is four weeks today! The second baby seems to grow up quickly. I am trying to enjoy her at much as possible because she may be my last baby but if I get my way i would like one more.

Well off to bed - probably only for a few hours and than up to feed.

take care big hugs to all the bubs

Hi all,

After watching the baby listener last night on telly, I'm almost certain my bubba has wind/ colic. I was pretty sure that's what it was anyway. It's all well and good to know what the problem is but I don't actually know how to fix it for her.

Does anyone have any tips on how to relieve wind? I try to burp her after every feed and sometimes in the middle of feeds but she doesn't always come up with the goods. Once it has made it's way to the other end I have no end of trouble with her. The poor little mite screams and pushes her legs for hours and mummy and daddy were both at the end of their tether by morning.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea how to help her out!

Pinkie......DH, Elektra and I were part of the control group on the show. We were the one's in black, and DH has the cochlear implant.

I found that my bubs had bad wind pain and needed to be burped more often once I learned what the sound to be burped was. Now we don't get that lower wind pain scream anymore..........it has helped.

Hi

Bambikins - I saw you than last night - it was very interesting and I can actually hear the words that charlize is crying - amazing.

Pinkie - Charlize has a bit of wind too and I use Infants friend which is really good and natural I have also tried Colic relief (Brauer) which is good also. Give them a go.

Amber- Wow! You're a celebrity:thumbsup: I watched the show with my mum and baby Anastasia (screaming the whole time which was good because we had a great example of the lower wind pain cry). I thought it was hillarious that your husband can turn down the volume:laughing: . I've already been searching on the net and bought the DVD. I think a lot of mum's will be saying that they kind of knew the cries anyway but it's nice to have some kind of research and study behind it to give us all some confidence.

Kristy- I bought some of the Brauer Colic Relief yesterday and gave her some late last night before she got into full swing. She seems to hate the taste but she only woke once for a feed at 2:30 and she was back to sleep by 3:30 with minimal crying. Here's the best part, she didn't wake up again untill 9:30 this morning. Best sleep I've had in ages!:smiliedance:

We are trying to persevere with the burping. Sometimes we can get a really big one up, but other times there's just nothing. I think when I stop her halfway through one side I have the most success so I'll keep doing that.

How sad is it that my life has come to the point where I get excited over a baby burping because that means she won't scream the house down at night:eek:

Omg I saw you too, bambikins! :D

Was your hubbie the one they were saying could turn down his implant when the baby cried? Lucky bugger. :D

My sister was going to buy the dvd for me, but the official sites coding was all screwed up and then their servers couldn't handle the load after the Ray Martin show. Silly twits. Now we are waiting to see if her CC got billed 4 times or if she has to reorder it. She wrote them an email explaining how their coding was stuffed haha.

Ava is keeping me awake sooo much lately. She had two nights where she was brilliant, slept for about 4hrs each time and settled easily, then it all went to hell in a handbasket! *snore*

That baby listener show was pretty good anyway though, my sister is all excited cause she has recognised the burping noise a couple of times, burped Ava, then put her to sleep in a matter of minutes. :)

I'm gonna be a wreck when my sister and mum go home I reckon. Be prepared for crazy Harlequin to come on here all mental every now and then.

Well it's been a hilarious day..........2 sets of random people recognised DH and I today from the show, even santa at david jones recognised us (I think DH and his cochleas stand out iykwim). But everyone seemed postive about the show and was asking us how we've been going with the dvd's. I even got a call from Ray Martin yesterday thanking us for partaking in the study:o

We had santa photos done today and spent 10 mins trying to wake Elektra up whilst santa was nursing her. They came out ok............but newborns always look a bit drunk:laughing:

Had Elektra weighed last thursday and she is just on 5kg, into infant nappies now and I bit the bullet and gave her a dummy last night for the first time because she has been eating for comfort and I don't want her to snack in an unhealthy way as it really was non stop munching 24/7.........I am feeling guilty about the dummy thing because so many people are against it and I really thought that I'd be able to get away without one. Is any one else using a dummy?

Anyway better go and have a quick nap before the 11pm feed.........keep up with the burping girls:thumbsup:

Pinkie - the infocol drops are great and also a nice wamr bath seems to help, hope your bubs wind settles soon!

Baileyjaysmum - I hope your sons lil toe is okay!! How ouchies!! Poor lil tigger.

bambikins - We to watched the show, And seen you and gorgous bubby Elektra, How cool!! Haha thats so funny peeps are stopping you guys in the street LOL May I have your autograph hehehe ;)
Dont feel bad about using a dummy hun, i use one and i had one with my son to, there is nothing at all wrong with them infact they are a godsend, I would have gone mental many a time with my son if it hadnt been for his dummy!! Dont ever feel bad about doing something coz of what other peoples opinions are, you will drive yourself batty, especially when it comes to parenting coz everyone has there own opinion on everything LOL

Harlequin - sorry to here Ava has been keeping you up hun!! Its funny how quickly there patterns can change and throw you right out. I hope she settles again for you soon So you can get some decent sleep!

Soooo Update on us, things have been hectic here, As Mikaylah hasnt been putting on weight, and as she is bottlefed thats really odd, I wont bore you all with the ins and outs of the storys LOL But pretty much the paediatrician's theory is that Mikaylah's birthweight was written in her blue book wrong at birth and that she wasnt that big to begin with ...... so we really dont know, Plus she hadnt been drinking her bottles properly for ages, and only drinking like 60 to 80 mL of her 100 mL bottles which has been contributing to the non weight gain thing. PLUS she had been doing one Projectile vomit a day for about 12 days which prob wasnt helping either, But since last wednsday she has been drinking ALL her bottles and has only had one projectile! YAY I think if she keeps it up for another day I will put her bottles up to 120mL!! So things should start to improve for her weight now i dare say, She has to be weighed weekly by the early childhood nurse and see the doctor fortnightly till everyone is happy with her weight. So yeh all should be good now!

She is such a great bub tho all that aside! She sleeps wonderfully and has started to smile now to which is just gorgous!! She is so content and just loves to lay on my bed looking out the window when she is awake through the day.

Anywho will stop rambling now haha
hope your all having a great weekend

I'm using a dummy occasionally too! I'm past the point of caring though. As someone once said, it's easier to ween them off a dummy than off a thumb.

I posted my birth story on the net if anyone is interested in reading it. It's quite long!

Wow harlequin........just finished reading your birth story. What an amazing labour you had, and you wrote it so well too. I felt like I was going to push reading it iykwim. You should print it out and give it to Ava for her 21st or something to that effect........very memorable indeed.

Julzy- I had someone ask me if I bottle fed Elektra because she is so chubby. I'm in the opposite position to you where mine is gaining too much. My father even said I should be giving her water:eek:
I know what you mean about the vomiting........Elektra vomits once a day. I'm sick of our bed sheets and my clothes smelling of breast milk, the washing machine has been going non stop. (sorry for the tmi)

Hi All

A few minutes to myself WOW

I am going a bit stir crazy. Patrick is just not doing the settling thing very well. I only got an hour and a half sleep the other night and then 3 hours the next night. I am a zombie just going through the motions at the moment. It would be fine if I could sleep during the day but Paige won't sleep all day thats for sure. I am about to kill my hubby because he just doesn't think and I could whinge about lots but had better stop. Other than that I love my children, I really am ok:devil6:

Bambikins - I was trying to figure which was you on the baby whishper programme and was laughing my tail off when your hubby said he could turn his hearing aid down. Tell me has it worked for you? I thought it was fantastic but must locate the dvd so I can master it properly. Even though its not going to fix the problems it certainly helps to know what the problem is:thumbsup: .

I have been trying to give Patrick a dummy just to give my boobys a break but he won't take it:banghead: .

Harlequin - just read your birth story and must say that you should be very proud of yourself. What an ordeal and you survived. I too had problems with the s-bend, and had 2 hours of pushing with my first so found that your story took me back in time. It was lovely to read your story and I agree with Bambikins that would be a great gift to pass on to Ava. How many of our mums really remember every detail of our birth? I think they all have rose coloured glasses.
Anyway well done.

Julzy - it must be a concern that Mikaylah isn't putting weight on fast enough. My worry is that Patrick is putting it on too fast. He was born at 3234gms and weighed in at 4.460gms at 3 weeks:eek: . The health nurse told me I would have to take him to weight watchers if he kept this up. He is only breastfed too, so different from my first. She didn't hit the 4000gms mark until she was 2 months old. I hope things improve for you soon so you can enjoy her without having to worry.

Pinkie - you are a hoot, I think we all get excited about the simplist things because we are attached to these babies 24/7 for a few weeks and we lose touch with the outside world a little. lol. If its any consolation (something I have to keep reminding myself) the sleepless nights and constant burping usually only lasts from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the child. Thats really only a small part of our lives and the big picture is so really worth it. If you can focus on that thought and the fact that you are not alone it kind of makes it easier to deal with.

Baileyjaysmum - oh how scary for your 2yr old. That does seem to be an exceptionally long wait for them to tend to a child but then again, they made me wait 6 hours at our hospital even when they knew I was bleeding very heavily at 17 weeks pregnant. Qld Health is falling apart. Glad that he is ok and back to normal.

Well I had best get to bed, I know I should already be there but this is my only me time so bugger it I wasn't going to miss it.

Take care and will catch up again soon

Hi all,

We had a fairly reasonable night last night. It took forever to settle Anastasia but finally at half past midnight she went to sleep and then woke at 4hr intervals. Not the long sleep she had been having, but OK none the less. She's now asleep in my new Babasling. It's having it's maiden voyage thismorning to the doctors. She's asleep but I'm not so sure she looks very comfortable.

Kirsten- If it lasts any more than 12 wks, I think I might just die from the lack of life, frustration and sleep deprivation. I'm going to brave shopping in Brisbane city with my mum after we've been to the Dr this morning. I bet she starts screaming the second we get there. In which case i'll just come home.

Harlequin- I love your avatar. Ava is very cute

Julzy- I think I might give the infocol a go because Anastasia hates the taste of the Brauer one. It smells like Raspberry or Strawberry or something like that. She screws her face up and then lets go a huge scream after I give it to her. Maybe the Dr will tell me today that it isn't even colic and I should stop shoving drugs into my little bubba!

Hope this week is great for you all with sleeping babies and free mummy time at every corner.:smiliedance:

Hi girls. Yay some time for myself (well kind of.. bub on boobie at the moment )

I loved the baby whisperer too! Because at the time of watching it, Taliyah was screaming her head off & then she made one of those noises for the lower wind pain (I can't remember it now does anyone else have the list of the sounds?!?- I only remember 'eh' lol) so I done the bike movements to her legs & sure enough she was fine a few minutes later and went straight to sleep so I thought it was fantastic! I run downstairs to tell DP straight away yet he doesn't believe me!!

It's nice to know how all the other bubbies are going. Taliyah is going good but lately has been a bit of a sook and doesn't want to go down, she loves the attention and just wants to be held & spoken to 24/7 so its really hard to get things done espeically with another toddler to care for as well. But I'm getting there! We went to the Christmas Carols on Friday night & I think that upset Taliyah and gave her alot of wind (because it was out in the open) we didn't stay that long because of her but when we went home she was very unsettled & was up most of the night!

Well that's all from me! Hope to talk to you's all again real soon

Thanks ladies! I figured I'd better get the birth story done before my brain totally blacks it all out ;)

Mum&Bubs, the sounds were:
EH - Burping
OWH - Tired
NEH - Hungry
EAIRH - Lower Wind Pain
HEH - Uncomfortable (cold/hot/nappy)

The first night Ava was home she was very restless because our doggie was freaking out n stuff. We worked on him the next day and he was very good from then on. The next couple of nights were great, Ava slept for around 4hrs at a time, which was just fantastic.

The next night Michael was going to have the following day off so we figured we'd have Ava in our room and see how we coped by ourselves (my mum and sister are over and helping out).
Ava was really restless and wouldn't settle the entire night. I ended up leaving the room at about 6am and giving her to my mum! Heh.

The following couple of nights she was restless again, only really getting 2hrs sleep at a time, being very grumbly and upset, squirming a lot.

Then we realised what was wrong. Her umbilical stump was hurting her. It had been rubbing against her clothes or nappy and she was in pain. My mum decided to cut off most of the dead part of the stump so there was nothing to catch onto stuff. As soon as she did, Ava settled.
Last night was her first night without the stump catching on everything, she slept for at least 4hrs a time, sometimes I'd have to wake her for a feed and change otherwise she'd just keep on sleeping through! She's a little angel.

I realised that the night I had her in my room, I'd actually caught her umbilical stump in between the buttons on her top and tugged it a little. She'd cried quite a bit because it had obviously hurt. I never put two and two together though, I must have made it sensitive that night. Silly me.

I'm so glad we figured out what was bothering her though, its kinda sad to think of her being in pain from the cord for so many days. Poor little bugger.

Hi girls,

Well, what a week its been!

On Sat morning at about 4am I was rushed to the emergency dep at the local hospital by ambulance with excruciating stomach cramps. I actually thought I was having a heart attack. After about 4 hours, the Dr sent me home on painkillers, not sure what it was. The next day the pain came back, so i went back to hospital, and after some ct scans and an ultrasound, turns out that my gallbladder is half full of stones. Going to my GP tomorrow, who will refer me onto a specialist and talk about what we are going to do about the stones. Hopefully something will be done ASAP, as I'm on panadeine forte 4 hourly and can't keep that up for too long, especially looking after 2 small babies.

Speaking of which, Thomas has been going really well. He's SO contented and happy. I guess I'm more relaxed as a mummy cause he's my second and I know what I'm doing! Last weeks when he was 3 weeks, he measured at still 58cms, HC 37.5 and weighed in at 4.540kg. He's sleeping well at night, feeding 4 hourly and is just so damn gorgeous. I love him to bits.

Anyway, gotta do some internet banking, hope all the new mummies are coping well. Can't believe Thomas is almost a month old, why can't the end of pregnancy go this quick???

Hi

Wizzfizz - I hope they fix the problem for you soon - you poor thing - thinking of you.

Well we had my DS 2nd birthday party on Sunday and it was so exhausting. My house looks like a bomb has hit it and he has so many toys and we still have christmas to come.

Charlize has been a bit unsettled today but I am putting it down to the wind.

Have you girls sent thank yous out yet? I am doing my christmas cards tonight and than i am going to tackle the thank you cards. Does anyone have any verses that I could use on a thank you card?

baileysmum - what did your son get for his birthday? My sons 2nd birthday is still 5 months away, but i need to start thinking of things now, and look out for after christmas sales... As for thank you cards, i'm not going to do any this time, i've put a little thank you note in the christmas cards though..

Ali - gallstones, i've heard that is really bad, i've had kidney stones before and was throwing up with the pain, so i sort of know how you feel. Hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

Thanks for all the well wishes girls! Hopefully I'll get my gallbladder taken out - although after 2 c/sections in 12 months, another operation on my tummy is the last thing I wanted!

Alybel - sounds like you've got one big healthy bubba! When I went to chart Thomas's length in his health book, 58cm was off the range for newborn boys... he's way over the 100th percentile! DD was 56cm when she was born, so my babies will probably tower over me when they are teenagers!!

Baileyjaysmum - I'm gonna do xmas cards and thankyous as an all-in-one this year! When I had DD, I just wrote: "Thankyou for all your well wishes, support and lovely gifts during the pregnancy and safe arrival of Grace". That outta do it!

Ok thats me done for tonight - I've actually managed to post twice in one day - AMAZING!

Alybel - Yeh I love Kuraby it is so handy to everything. As for presents well I got DS the playskool talking tool bench, the playdough table (I think he is still a bit young as he was eating it so it has been put away) and a mower set which had a wheel barrow and garden tools in it. He also got a train set which he loves. I hope that gives you a few ideas.

Wizzfizz - thanks for the verse. i should have been smart and sent them with the christmas cards.

Hi Girls
I have a bit of time before dad (DH) comes home and whilst bub is asleep............dad requested a lasagne tonight. Don't think i'll be making that again seeing that the witching hour had began and it's damn hard chopping onions with a screaming baby in a pram in the kitchen. That's why he does the cooking usually but I got the guilts and decided to cook for once...........never again:no:

Elektra is doing well, smiling a lot, pooing a lot......life is good:yelclap: We haven't got a routine as such, but my life has never really been about routine. I keep whacky hours like her, where we feed at 12am I then go to bed. She gets up at 3 and then at 6 where I then take her into bed and we both lounge around in bed till 10.30:eek: She didn't even have a sleep during the day yesterday.......and seemed ok about it thank God.

Julzy- Hope bubs is eating more for you.........I think most babies even out after a while. But great to see that she is sleeping well.
Kristlea- Yeah the burping sound 'eh' is working well for me as i'm able to nab it in time before it becomes lower wind pain which then becomes a loud screech. But a good tip for recognising the "neh' sound (for hunger) is to watch how they place their tongue. Their tongue will usually touch the roof of their mouths as if they are sucking hence they want food.
Alybel- Wow got yourself a big girl there. Elektra is now 5kg and my father is hassling me that she's too big. He even suggested me giving her water.......silly old man.
WizzFizz- It's amazing how many women seem to get stones during pregnancy, my mil being another one. But the op now is done with key hole surgery so you wont get cut open so to speak and the healing is mighty quick.........hope they get on to it soon for you:hugs:
Baileyjaysmum- Yes, I got onto the thankyou cards pretty quickly.........but am now using the christmas cards for thankyou cards as Elektra is still getting goodies.........it's crazy how people get with babies, the generosity is unbelievable.
Grecksta- I got mastitis at 2 weeks aswell.........I have never felt so cold in my life when I came down with the fever, the sweat was pouring out of me but I was chilled to the bone. Very scarey stuff.

Leesha and Alison - Where abouts in Brissy are you guys? I'm near Mt Gravatt on the south side. I don't have any friends or even rellies who are close by with bubbies. I'm the first of all my friends to have a bub and all my rellies with bubs are in NSW. I'd be keen to have a little bub hub mums group happening if anyone else is too?

Harlequin - Getting paint would require leaving the house and that is all a bit scary at the moment. Any ideas for things that might be lying around the house (I know paint is something that should be lying around the house but neither DH or myself is very reno minded, it took months of proding to get the nursery painted and I don't think i'd like to put that paint on little bubbas feet  )

Had Anastasia weighed today and she has put on 480g in the 17 days since her birth. The chemist where I have decided to take her every week for a weigh actually gave us a free box of nappies for being new parents. They asked if we already had many and because I've got heaps of newborn, they gave us a box of 90 Huggies crawlers. I was very impressed and will definitely be going back there. Just when you start to think everyone is out to rip you off, someone goes and does something lovely like that! My faith is restored :)

Hope all bubbas are well and all yummy mummies are rested.

Sorry hon, I forgot most people don't have paint lying around the house. I have heaps cause of my job :)
I'd just try the food colouring, its non toxic... just throw bubs straight in the bath afterward and use some moisturiser on the stain, it should hopefully help get it off, just don't bubs spread it anywhere in the meantime!

I have to make footprints and handprints too, is your book sorta a binder book that goes up to around 5yrs? I bought mine yesterday, now im gonna have to remember when Ava first smiled and all that stuff!
She smiles heaps, she's a happy little thing.

I'm so happy, Ava has been sleeping pretty well and seems to be a pretty well behaved baby as babies go (as far as I know anyway). Last night she only woke twice. She slept for about 4.5hrs each time. :) Hopefully she will do the same tonight!

My nipples are tender from expressing milk. Poor boobies. I've been having a few glasses of Sustagen every day, I find it helps me keep my milk production up and I tend to not get my required daily intake of a lot of foods so at least this way I'm getting some vitamins n stuff. I can't believe they expect breastfeeding mothers to eat 7 serves of veg and 5-7 fruit and all that bread n other stuff every day! It's so much food!!

Hi Girls

Hey I am at Kuraby and would be keen to have a bub hub get together!

I have a question they may sound stupid but do you breastfeeding mums wear bras to bed? For some reason I do and I dont know if it is good or bad???

Charlize is starting to get into a pattern at night feeding at 9.30, 12.30 and than 4.00am which isnt too bad. I took her to town yesterday to show my work friends and do some shopping but she was really unsettled as I think she had a big pain the belly as she hadnt pooed for days and than did two massive ones yesterday.

So I took the two kids to the shops this morning and just about finished the christmas shopping!!

Hi all,

From my notes, we've got a few interested parties who are, Krissy, Alison, Kristy, and ATD-FAH (sorry darl, I couldn't find what your name is). I wasn't sure where Bundamba was Alison so I looked it up on whereis. It's probably a bit far for me to travel with bubs at the moment but I'm sure in the future once I'm used to her, we could make the trip. I'd have it at my house only it isn't exactly child friendly. I'll have to change that in the coming months though!:shame:

Anyone happy to have something at their house. I was thinking more of just a tea/ coffee, bring a plate type morning tea just so we could all get together, meet, chat, realise we're not all internet psychos etc.

If we all hit it off, we could try to make a bit of a group of it with a set day per fortnight/month at varying houses so it's not too much of a burden on one person. Whatever we all come to an agreement on really.

Harlequin - I have two baby books, one is the Peter Rabbit Baby Book which was a gift from my brother when I was about 3 months pregnant. The other is called A Book About Me which is quite modern. It has sections for Adoption, naming days, and fertility as well as the usual stuff. Even though I already had a book, I just had to buy it because it's so nice.

I usually wear my BF'ing singlet top to bed. It has a shelf bra built in. If it's in the wash, I just wear one of my normal feeding bras because my boobs get too sore if they aren't supported.

Anastasia is into a routine! Only problem is that it's the wrong routine. The last 4 nights she has started being cranky around 5 or 6 pm and hasn't gone to sleep untill after midnight. Last night it was 2:30am preceded by about 3 hrs of uncontrollable screaming. It isn't even crying, the poor thing looks like she's in so much pain and tries so hard to scream that eventually hardly any noise comes out. Her poor little throat must be red raw. She's quite obviously tired/exhausted but the wind pain/colic kicks in and she just can't get settled. My hubby and I were even starting to get cranky with each other last night because she just wouldn't stop. I know it's not her fault but I feel so useless just holding her while she is so clearly distressed but there isn't anything else I can do.

Now she'll sleep most of the day and the whole saga will begin again tonight.

Hi all

I am quite happy to have it at my place. It is child friendly as I have a toddler. Probably not till the new year as I am quite busy up until christmas. Let me know.

Hello Mummies

Gee I have alot to catch up on.

I can't remember who it was that asked about paint to do foot and hand prints but we did them at the health care centre with my first child and they used food colouring. We just used wipes to clean their hands and feet.

Someone else asked about wearing a bra to bed as a breastfeeding mum. If you can get away with wearing one at night it is better for your milk supply but if you require breast pads then obviously you don't have a choice.

Up until today I was almost ready to toss in the breastfeeding and get the bottle out but somehow Patrick must have sensed it because for the first time ever he has been feeding every 4 hours.

I rang the lactation consultant yesterday and asked if it was considered normal for a baby to feed every 2 to 3 hours from birth to 5 weeks and she nearly had a fit.

She told me that my body wouldn't cope with it if he kept that up and gave me lots of ideas to give me a break and to try and drag out his feeds. I am sure he was listenning to every word I said:laughing: .

Hence why it has taken me so long to get online, I have just been too exhausted.

So really just wanted to pop in and say HELLO, put my 2 cents in and see how everyone was doing.

Pinkie I read that your little girl is having a hard time settling, just a couple of ideas if you haven't heard of them already.

Lay bubba on her back and move her legs backwards and forwards like riding a bike, this is really good for lower wind.

or

Run a warm deep bath and let her soak, that helps to relax the body and eventually she will let go of the wind. It also helps you to relax because of course you have to get in there with her;) and the skin to skin contact is really nice.

or

Drink Decaf Camoile Tea it goes through your milk and helps to relax bubba.

I guess what I am saying is if you can relax as much as possible it will help. I had the same dramas with my first and now after having the second I realise how stressed I was with Paige compared to Patrick.

This may not be the case with you but it certainly was for me. Anyway hope one of these ideas works for you as I can totally relate to what you are going through as I am sure the rest of the bubhubbas here can relate too.

Best get to bed and catch up on the sleep.

Take care everyone

Hi girls

I'm getting very excited about this talk of the meet up! Maybe we could take turns offering our houses until bubs are all settled & then maybe take it outdoors a little? I am keen to offer my house and it is good to see some other little toddlers as well because I am sure Summer would love to play with other kids her age.

Well I'm from Cannon Hill anyways, I'm not sure where Kuraby is well I have a fair idea (somewhere on the north side right?) but I am willing to travel. But yes I will offer my place but maybe not until the new year because of Christmas.

About the breastfeeding & sleeping with a bra. I did this when I first started breastfeeding (well I done it for a few months- still sometimes do it now!) I don't think there is anything wrong with it. As long as it's a comfy maternity bra then you should be right and if they leak at night then just chuck in a nursing bra

About the hands & feet paintings, I too used food colouring for my daughter when I done it. Then wipe it off with some baby wipes after & it comes off pretty easily. Good luck with it.

Well that's all for me from now but I will just add in a proud mama's moment- my little one has started cooing away now, its so damn cute :D

Hi all,

I was thinking along the lines of food colouring but it hadn't even entered my mind to wipe it off with baby wipes. I had these images of a 5 year old who's hands and feet were still pink from food dye  I'll give it a burl!

Kirsten - I've tried the bike thing and it doesn't seem to do anything. I haven't tried a bath and it didn't occur to me to put her into the big bath with me so I must give that a go if necessary tonight. I'm not much of a tea fan but I'll also get a hold of some cammomile tea and try that as well. Sounds like better parenting than the glass of wine/beer that some of the oldies have suggested. But hey, if that works, i'll do it too :fingerscrossed:

Anastasia has been a good girl today. A little grizzly at times but I've been managing to get her burping after most feeds and she has been awake a bit more than other days so hopefully she'll have a good night with none of that dreadfull colic crying. It certainly tugs at the heart strings.

Krissy - I've just had a mental blank but I think it was you who didn't know where Kuraby was. It's a bit further down Logan Rd from Garden city shopping center. I'm in the suburb of Wishart and it's only about 10 mins (15 if traffic is about) from my house (One of my BIL's lives there). Have a look on one of the map sites like whereis.com and you'll get the idea. It's not really too far from you, maybe about 20-25mins if you go down Creek Rd onto Logan Rd. Hope that helps

Hi Girls

Yeh Kuraby is not far from Cannon Hill if you jump on the gateway motorway. It is just down the road from Garden City.

I am still happy to have it at my place but I have just remembered that Dh is having a hernia operation on the 8th of January and will be at home for six weeks - luckly me!!!! So if someone wants to have the first one and than I am happy to have it at my place when he is back at work.

I think Charlize is dropping her 10.00pm feed which would be nice. The last two nights she hasnt woken up for it and on Friday night I stayed up and she didnt wake until 11.30 which is always the way. Last night I went to bed at 9.30 and she woke at 12.45 which was heaven.

She is doing some projectal(sp?) vomits - is this something I should be worried about??? Other than that she is good. We have the peds appointment on Thursday so I will let you know how she goes - I cant believe she is six weeks old. Time flies but at the same time I feel like she has been apart of the family for ever.

Well we are off to town tomorrow to see Santa at Myers and have their photos taken. i dont like I will be getting one of Bailey this year as when I took him to see Santa the other day he would not let go of me. After that we are off to see the Wiggles at the entertainment centre. Mum is coming to stay with Charlize outside while I take Bailey in. i hope he is good!!!

Talk soon

We got our santa pics today! I hope they turn out good! I cant wait to see them, I dont have much time to do all personals and such, im off to bed, but I just wanted to say to Baileyjaysmum that Mikaylah was havig one projectile vomit a day, we have seen doctors , midwives and a paediatrician regarding the vomiting and a few other things, and everyone is rather stumped by what would be causing it, but I was told to just keep an eye on it. How often is she doing it? I think if its more then once a day i would be worried, Even one time a day was worrying with mikaylah, but touch wood she has stopped now, hasnt done a prejectil for about a week! YAY
Anywho will be back tomorrow to catch up properly!

Hi Girls,

Wow its been a while since I posted. Sounds like everyone is going well, bubs are thriving and settling into little routines. I've been down the coast since I had my gallstone attack, and just got back last night.

Well at 4 weeks old, Thomas hit the 5kg mark. He's so beautiful, and is such a happy content bubba. Its been a bit hard with 2 little ones, but I'm managing ok.

Wouldn't you know it - he just woke up!

Be back later for personals.

Hi all

I have not had a chance to read all the post in this thread, but it is nice to note a lot of familiar names.

Well we have been home a week now, and what a week it has been. We had and made it to my brothers wedding, and had muliple visits to my dads place to catch up with the relos from OS. My brother is off on his honey moon and the relos have gone home, so hopefully things will return to normal.

Tahlia is doing really well, putting on weight, but keeps falling asleep during feeds, I am having a hell of a time trying to wake her up. But if I don't she is awake 2 hours later crying for a feed. She was so unsettled this morning, that I finally cracked open the dummy, sterilized it and offered it to her. I don't think she seem to keen on it, not sure how it is going to work. But she is finally sleeping, keeping my fingers crossed she stays that way for a while.

Any way it is hubby and his twin sisters birthday today, so I am making a roast for dinner tonight (SIL and BIL are coming for dinner).

Hope everyone is well, hopefully I will be online more often now.

Lenko, Ava likes to fall asleep during feeds then wake up an hour or two later as well.
She went through a really good stage of feeding then sleeping for 4hrs, but she's reverted back to having little feeds and sleeping for short periods of time. Makes it hard at night. I think it's called cluster feeding or something. I think she comfort feeds too. Whenever she has bad gas or bowel movements she gets so upset that only my boobie will comfort her. She sorta cries and talks whilst she's on my boob, it sounds pretty funny.

My milk supply has been a little low lately, I'm kinda worried about it. I'm pretty sure at 3wks I should have more milk than this. My hubbie looked after her this morning while I caught up on some sleep, he had to give her 2x 60ml feeds of formula cos she was hungry :(
I hate having to substitute breast milk for formula, but sometimes it just feels like ive got nothing in me and she isn't getting enough of a feed to put her to sleep for ages. I may have to ring a lactation consultant or something.

Hi again girls!

Okay I know where Wishart & Kuraby is now :D not too far at all from my place! DP who has lived on the north side he's whole life got into an arguement with me saying 'NO ITS ON THE NORTHSIDE' He was the one that told me Northside :o So he wasn't happy when I had to tell him he was wrong lol.

Hey! We are off to the Wiggles tomorrow too! Seems a few of us are going now. This is the first time I will be away from Taliyah, Karl (dp) is taking half the day off (coming home early) and will be watching her while I take Summer out. I've already started expressing milk for Taliyah for tomorrow, I want to make sure I have lots just in case because I dont want her to go hungry and poor DP not having a clue what to do. Hopefully Summer behaves tomorrow & I'm hoping she doesn't fall asleep as soon as the show starts! Haha!

Well I have to book an ultrasound for Taliyah as the doctor says he can hear clicking in one of her hips. Summer had this when she was younger as well but it turned out to be nothing so I will book it in later. I hope she's just like something & there is nothing wrong with them because I dont know what I would do if there was.

Well that's all from me. Take care ladies & I will chat to you all again soon !

I'm going to the 10am show, and am going to drop samantha off at mums with a bottle of expressed milk, i expressed after a feed a few days ago and got 200ml! I was pleased with that, well, i should probably get it out of the freezer for tomorrow.

Hey All..

We had our 4th little princess ' Alexandria Pearl' on 28.11 she was 9lb 3oz & 55cm long. We had a few complications after the birth with her sholders getting stuck OUCH:( & then me having 'excessive ' bleeding afterwards with surgery a real possiblity..thankfully the bleeding finally slowed up!! She is 13 days old now & how the time is flying!!! I keep trying to hold on to everymoment as this looks like it will be our last addition to our family....a good & bad thing LOL i must sound crazy! But i think 4 is enough for us! Alexandria is an absolute angel of a baby (sorry:o ) she is feeding & sleeping very well & we have already settled her into a routine & she is jst so content!...but she will not lay on her back at all so we have allowed her to sleep on her tummy....i know its not recommended but i spoke to my peadeatrician in hospital & he said if she will not settle any other way then lay her on her tummy....he seems to think bubs are more at risk if you lay them on their tummy & they are able to lay on their backs...i dont know but DD2 was the same would only lay on her tummy...but that is really Alexandrias only vice...
Lenko - i know what you mean about bubs only taking 1/2 a feed...all of my other dd's & even Ale has done this a couple of times....i found a damp flannel works wonders! i know it sounds a little mean but i would wipe over their faces & feet & this 98% of the time would wake them up to finish their feed...Have you tried undressing her or changing her nappy? That normally works for me too...rubbing teir feet ?...i know how important it is for me to get Ale to take a full feed...this morning she & i both dropped off & i thought she had taken enough but 1/2 hr after putting her back to bed she was up again! Then she only took a small amount so we were a bit out of whack for the early part of the morning but she is back on track again now! Phew... Well i hope that gives you some ideas if you havent already tried them!

Hey Leesha *waves*

Do you use the Colic Relief when your baby is having wind / bowel pain even if its only for a few minutes? I usually just put Ava on my boobie and she gets comforted... not sure if that's a good idea though.
Or is the colic relief stuff just for when they aren't settling for ages?

Hi girls.

Well the wiggles meet up could have worked except I'm going to the 1pm show!

I'm so tired, last night Taliyah would not go to bed for ages, usually as soon as we hit the sack shes fast asleep with us but she just wanted to play last night and I can't sleep if I know that she is still awake. She has not been in her cot for a while now, Karl wants me to move her back to her cot but I love co-sleeping! Except for the fact that our bed is getting pretty cramped with both kids in there  I'm hoping to get Summer a little toddler bed soon to go beside us.

Does anyone else co-sleep?

Well thats all from me for now.

Hi Girls:wave:
Glad to see all the bubs doing well........Leki (Elektra's new nick) has been starting to coo and gaa over the last couple of days, she even had a wierd little laugh that sounds more like a gasp. It's just so exciting when they start to acknowledge you and makes the 4am feed worthwhile iykwim.

Well we finally just got our tree up on the weekend complete with the flashing coloured lights. I put leki in her bouncer and sit her in front of the tree which amuses her for a little while, far more impressive than the bland mobile in her room.
Is everyone hooked up with a mothers group atm?

Noah sounds very similar to Ava, Leesha. She doesn't burp all the time and will often have bad gas, especially at night. It's so sad. I will either whip out my boob or the dummy to comfort her too. Sometimes she doesn't think the dummy is good enough though ;)
I might have to look into getting some colic relief medicine too.

Hey when you guys co-sleep, do you use any barrier type things or just put the baby next to you and go to sleep? Are you scared of smothering the baby at all? I'd love to co-sleep but im terrified my boob will smother her head if I roll over or something like that!

I remember the midwives telling me not to worry if my tit is smothering her while she feeds, cos she will pull away. I was watching american idol one night and thinking, "what the heck is Ava doing?" cos she was making noises on my boob. I looked down a moment later and she was all red in the face cos her nose was pushed into my tit! She didn't bloody pull away!

My mum said they probably won't. Its like how they used to tell you a child will surface once when they fall into water. That wasn't true either, she said when my sister almost drowned it haunted my dad for ages because she just went right down to the bottom of the pool and kinda stood there looking up at him. She didn't do a thing, didn't kick off the bottom or anything. He was in the middle of escorting me to the side of the pool so he had to finish doing that before he could dive under and grab her. *shudder*

So yeah im worried about accidentally smothering her with my arm or boob or something.
Do you use pillows and blankets or just a sheet?

My sister bought me a little cosleeping box thingy to put on the bed, when it gets here ill give it a go.

Harlequin
12-12-2006, 16:48
Cheers, will do. The gas pains are the main thing causing Ava sleeping issues at the moment so it would be nice if it relieves that for her... and us ;)

I might try co sleeping, it's so hot in perth at the moment all I need is a sheet so that removes the chance of a doona smothering her at least :)

Hi all,

Well little Stasia finally had a good day. Over the weekend she only had about 6 hrs sleep both days and was pretty much screaming for the rest of the time. By last night I had really had enough so I rang my mum at 11pm and bless her cotton socks, she came over and dealt with bubba for a few hours while I had a sleep. She bought her into my room at 1:30am for a feed and then she went home. Luckily after the feed she actually went to sleep for a few hours so I was able to have a bit more sleep. She hadn't had a decent sleep in almost 3 days so I was very relieved.

When she woke up this morning at 5, my hubby took her out in the pram for a lap around the block after her feed and then she slept for another 4 hours so I had some more sleep :yelclap:

I took her to a chiropractor this arvo who specialises in babies and she fixed up a few out of place ribs and a twisted neck vertebrae. I'm not sure if I'm entirely convinced but the proof will be in the pudding. She has been asleep for the last 3hrs so with a bit of luck she will be relaxed for the next few days at least.

I hope our little cranky pants becomes an angel but i'm not going to hold my breath too much IYKWIM!

The only relief I got on the weekend was when I put her in bed with us. I was so tired I couldn't sit up to feed her so I did it lying down in bed and just went to sleep like that. I kept waking up an hour later and wondering what time she stopped sucking. If I tried to move her, she just started screaming so maybe there is something to be said about co-sleeping.

I tried the Brauer Colic Relief but found that it didn't really do much, that's why I resorted to chiropractic. :fingerscrossed: It has done the trick.

On a lighter note - We're off to have Pixi photos tomorrow morning so with a bit of luck Stasia will be a little angel and we can get some great little photos of our new family. I don't think we actually have any of all 3 of us yet because it's always one of us taking the photo.

Oh, by the way, I tried to do the hand and foot prints and it was a bit of a disaster. Because she was so upset all the time, the food dye ended up everywhere and all we managed to get was 1 foot print. But it's a lovely foot print and it will have to do because I'm too traumatised to try again!

Happy sleeping all

Hey everyone.

Well Summer loved the Wiggles, I think she was in shock when they first come out though  but she had a blast! It was so strange to leave Taliyah for the first time at first I was just going to stay home & let Karl go with Summer but I thought 'no I want to spend time with Summer' as we really havent had alot of time to do that since Taliyah was born. It also gave Karl a chance to have some bonding time with Taliyah.

About Co-sleeping, no we don't use a barrier but we will be getting one soon not for Taliyah though for Summer as sometimes when she sleeps on the edge she rolls off in her sleep. Taliyah just sleeps beside me & sometimes I hug her :D I'm not scared on rolling on her or anything though because like Leesha said you become a very light sleeper! I don't put her on the side with DP though because I'd be scared he would roll on her lol. You do learn to relax to, When I first started sleeping with Summer I never got any sleep at all, I'd always be waking up & checking if she was breathing.

Last night I put Taliyah in her cot at 9pm & she woke up at 12.30 for a feed, that whole time I wasn't asleep I was staring at her  I can't relax when she's in her cot so I left her in our bed after that feed.

Well thats my novel for the day Oh someone asked if I was in a mothers group yet Nope were not. I used to be in one when Summer was little but the ladies there were complete cows & I ended up leaving :o But I'd love to find another one with a bit more friendly faces! I need to get out more I think!!

Bye for now!

ETA: Pinkie sorry to hear you had a hard night, we all get these. Good on your mum for helping you out! Glad you got some sleep hun.

Ava had a bad night last night. She was crying almost non stop from 10 til after 1am. My boobs were totally drained from all the comfort feeding so DH gave her a bottle of formula. She lay in her bassinette for all of ten minutes before getting poopie again.
In the end I lay back on the couch (my bedroom is too hot at the moment) and let her go to sleep with her head on my arm. We both slept like that until 7am and woke up rather sweaty but well rested.

Its nights like these i wish i still lived near my family.

Harelequin – nice to know the I am not the only one out there. Last night I fed her at 8 pm, finally got to bed at 9:30, she work at midnight to only feed for about 3 min, just could not get her to have more, I got really frustrated, woke up hubby after 45 min, to hand her over, not sure what it all was about, but she finally went back to sleep by 1:30 AM, had a good feed at 3am, and then again at 8 am. I not sure what the 12 mid night was all about, maybe I should have tried to get to back to sleep earlier rather than trying to get her to feed and stressing us both out. At least we both got a good sleep after all the drama.

Krissy – we co-sleep but also use a cradle by the bed. I usually put Tahlia in bed with me after a 5 – 6 AM sleep when I know I am not that dead asleep (hence wont roll over her), that way we get to have our cuddles, but also get room in the bed during the night, other than that she in the cradle right next to my bed where I can see her. I plan to have her in our room to about 12 weeks, then I will slowly move her into her own room – well that’s the plan anyone, but we will see.

Other than that I am finding the dummy a treat, especially when she wakes up at the end of a sleep cycle, usually if I give her the dummy she falls back to sleep. Anyone else heard of a sleep cycle, apparently babies have a 45 min sleep cycle, and after 45 min will often wake up, and find it difficult to resettle them selves, I am finding the dummy or little pat on the back helps her get back to sleep without too much fuss (well most of the time).

alybel
13-12-2006, 12:45
well i think samantha has learnt how to put herself to sleep now :) I've been putting her down in her cot with a dummy while she is awake and she just looks around and gradually falls asleep over about 20 minutes, it's great! I hppe she keeps it up.

It's my son that has been the troublesome one, he just doens't want to sleep in his bed! He's started waking up again around midnight and won't go back to sleep for ages.... not very fun, well i have to go duck off to the shops while they are both sleeping, dh is sleeping too, working nights at the moment, so i'm hoping they will stay asleep..

Is there much of a difference between a mothers group and a play group or are they pretty much the same thing?

I suggested the group in Brissie with the idea that it would be an opportunity to chat with other mums, compare bubbies, milestones, concerns, excitement etc. with other mums who have babies of the same age and also give the bubbas a chance to interact. Does that make it a mums group or a playgroup or both?

Kristy I think it was you who had offered your house but can't do it till Feb/March. Is anyone able to have it at their house before then or should we just pick a central location with parents room toilets and good food/coffee like a shopping center or something?

Stasia has been a bit more settled since the Chiropractor. You ladies were talking about unsettled babies around midnight etc. I didn't realise there was anything different to that:eek:

Hopefully things will improve now though!

i think a playgroup is usually registered with the plagroup association and requires payment each meet to cover insurance costs etc. a mothers group is just an informal get together

Mum&bubs
14-12-2006, 16:57
Yep at my playgroup we had to pay a fee each year, it wasn't much it was $22 a year and at the end of the year the playgroup goes to a place like lollipops or something like that, I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

I think maybe the first meet could be at a cafe or something like that? Just so we could meet first. What does everyone else think? Because I don't really mind. I'm happy with whatever, I just need the adult conversation

Taliyah lately will NOT GO DOWN, its very frustrating!! Every time I put her down she cries, she will be asleep in my arms then I put her down & she cries. I usually just put her in her rocker and rock it with my foot but now even this isn't working. Any tips anyone? It's driving me nutty lol.

Harlequin
14-12-2006, 18:27
Ava does that sometimes. She doesn't usually cry though, she just wakes up once we move her to the bassinette and refuses to go back to sleep :D
Then we will pick her up and rock her and she goes to sleep, but when we try putting her back in the bassinette she wakes up again hehe
Little pest.

No idea how you can fix it, Krissy. I usually end up letting her lie on my arm if im on the couch.

Hi all,

Sounds like u guys all had good babies for a while. Anastasia hasn't settled from day one. Right from the beginning we haven't been able to get her into the bassinett unless she's been asleep for a good solid half hour in someones arms. She loves a cuddle. When she wakes up and realises we've dumped her, the screaming begins. I'm certain we are going to have sleep issues big time once she is more responsive.

A meet at a cenral venue it is ladies. Next point of debate is where and when.

I know of a little play area at the Harvey Norman end of Garden City Shopping Center where there is a play enclosure for todlers/kids and some chairs and stuff for mums and dad's. The parents toilets aren't too far away and there is a coffee shop/ cafe thingy right next to it. Just a suggestion (helps that it's really close to my house hehehe!) Perhaps early in the year either in the first or second week of Jan if that suits anyone. Anyway, I'm more than open to suggestion so suggest away ladies.

Hi all,

Isn't it funny how you read back on your posts and realise that every second word is spelt wrong because you were in a rush to get it typed b4 bubby wakes up! I guess I'll never have anything done properly again and I should just get used to it hey!

Last night I completely forgot to write what I actually came on here to write!

We had our weekly visit to the baby nurse yesterday and my little fatty had put on 345g since the same time last week  . She's also grown 2.5cm since birth and is now 54.5cm long. She's rapidly growing out of all the cute outfits everyone has given her. I hope she fits into her cute little babies 1st Xmas jumpsuit my friend bought her.

I took her to the shops with my mum last night and she was a little terror. 1st she was well behaved and had all the myer sales people around her gooing and gaaing and then she started screaming so I gave her a feed at the Clinique counter. Then she pooed everywhere so I had to find a parents room and change her. Then we were having dinner and she started screaming again so I whipped out boobie and fed her a second time and she promptly pooed again. Changed that one in the car (which is very difficult to do I found out).

I guess having a decent shopping trip is another thing I can now cross off my list. Oh well, all the 15yr old boys at the shop got to see a nice big boobie so maybe I made their Xmas.

Doh! I forgot to write her actual weight. She now weighs 4.135Kg. Has anyone elses little chubba put on 345g in one week? Or is my little boobie devourer just a piggy?

I actually have no idea what Ava weighs at the moment. She hasn't been weighed since the community nurse popped over in that first week at home.

Are we supposed to take them to a nurse every week to be weighed n stuff?

I'm just waiting for her 6wk appointment then I assume the doctor will do all that stuff.

I have a question about breast feeding... how much milk should each of my boobies be producing at 3-4wks? I'm not sure im producing enough, I tend to have to give Ava a bottle of formula one or two times a day because my boobs are floppy as hell from all her comfort feeding.

at 5 weeks samantha weighed:

5.3kg and length is 59cm, she's been growing as well!

As for amount to feed baby, it is hard to say as boobies don't have measure marks onthe side :( But, fi you read the formula tin it says that they will need roughly xxxg per kg each day, so i went by the fact that my girl has 6 feeds a day, then she should have roughly 100ml each feed. Does that help??

Hi girls

Mind if I join in? I'm from the Dec group but little Ella Grace was born by c-section November 21st due to a low lying placenta (and my paranoia). She weighed 2950gms (6lbs80zs and was 51 cm, HC 35cm)...

She is 24 days old and is on breastmilk (not much) - I had very bad mastitis and one dried up  and she is on Nan Gold 1HA FF.

She is sleeping less and less - usually waking every 2-3 hours for a feed and nappy change...and a bit of a play...

Looking forward to getting to know you all and learning lots about little bubbas...

Hi Ladies - its been a little while, infact I can't remember when I last posted.:( God I am tired.

Well my buda of a son is now weighing in at 5.5kgs, I was stunned when he was weighed at his 6 week appointment today. He was 4.4kgs only three weeks ago. I am definataly a good cow this time around.

He just started smiling at us a few weeks ago and is now showing alot more interest in what is going on around him. Before all he wanted to do was eat and sleep  with lots of crying inbetween if his tummy hurt.

I've read that a few of you are concerned about not having enough milk. With my first I felt exactly the same and also comped with formula (which was detrimental to breastmilk supply) This time round I have kept at it no matter how soft my boobies feel there is milk believe it or not. Patrick has been feeding off me every 2 to 3 hours since day one and also comfort feeds.

The only advice I can offer is drink tonnes of water it has made a huge difference to me and as much sleep as you can possibly get.

Beer and peanuts are supposed to be good for milk supply. I have been eating peanuts but avoided the beer as I don't like beer and also the gas in beer will not help Patrick imo.

The sleep thing has been a joke, I only had 4 hours all up last night and the night before and then the night before that was 1 1/2hrs. I am not quite sure how I am still functioning but it has to get better soon. Please I am praying that it will improve.

I rang a lactation consultant to get some ideas and they have been very helpful so if you have concerns don't hesitate to ring as they are great. I have managed to get a pattern happening during the day I just have to sort the night time feeds.

Anyway my eyes are getting very heavy so I think I must go before I fall asleep at the computer.

Take care

Kirsten

Hi there

Just wondering if anyone else is using formula as well... I think Ella may not be coping with the Nan 1ha Gold as she has HEAPS of really smelly wind  and khaki green poo...(lots of them too)...I am also on antibiotics for my mastitis but nearly finished them and thought she could be reacting to my breastmilk.

This has been happening for about a week now and I have been on antibiotics for two weeks.. She has been on the formula for about a week and a bit..

What do you think?

Has anybody used gripe water before?

Kirstlea - your bubba sounds gorgeous...nice and chubby too :D Ella is four weeks on Tuesday and hasn't smiled at us yet :crying: - when should I expect that to happen?

At Ella's 2 week appt she had only put on 90grams:( - but I had mastitis and my milk supply is low.

Welcome Family Wish:wave: I got mastitis aswell and the antibiotics are fine to take.......I took 2 courses of them and was a bit worried aswell but i was assured that they don't harm the baby.

Everyone's babies have seemed to hit that magical 3 week mark where their placid babies become not so placid.......apparently this is normal. It's like aresenic hour doesn't kick into full swing until then too.

In regards to breastmilk supply try expressing......because the more you express the more your breasts should fill up or at least that's what happens with me. I'm trying to stretch out my feeds to every 3 hours because Leki has been snacking too much and only getting the fore milk hence she has stayed at 5kg for the past 3 weeks. My boobs have been trying to adjust as they become so engorged trying to hold out for the next feed and so I then express a bit so as she can latch on otherwise my nipple becomes part of my boob. (yay for flat nipples)

Looks like we will be on a current affair in 2 weeks. Channel 9 is coming to do an interview at our place next week for a follow up on look who's talking. I am freaking out big time:eek: and it looks like i will have to clean up the house big time aswell. it looks like a bomb has gone off in the kitchen as DH is in the process of cooking 4, 2kg christmas cakes. Fruit, nuts and flour everywhere.

Thanks for the welcome

Yes, I didn't realise there was a magical 3 week mark....but I do now  ..LOL

Guess, what, she is asleep - has been for 3 whole hours...amazing!! I haven't given her breastmilk since 8.30 last night and I gave her some s26gold at 9am this morning (instead of the Nan)....so far so good.

I have tried expressing and NOTHING comes out of my mastitis boob... I even had ultrasound on it too. I have the electric medula pump - hired it. The right boob works..but I still only manage to get out 40mls in 15mins on the pump. That isn't much is it? Maybe my milk supply (or lack of it) has something to do with my age...??

Bambikins - I'll watch out for you on TV! How exciting!!:smiliedance: Were you on the show the other night?

I use formula but only for night time feeds because he sleeps better when he is filled up on formula. I am still breastfeeding during the day though.

I was using the S26 Gold but I've now switched to Bellamy's Organic Formula, don't know how good it is yet because we only just started on it but give some other brands a try and see what you think, trial and error.

ATD-FAH - Did Noah have any reactions to S26 Gold?

Bernadette- Don't worry about your bub not smiling yet. My girl is 4 wks on Mon and we haven't seen much from her except a frown. She seems to be a very serious baby. Must be all the wind making her grumpy. I've read that smiling can happen anywhere from about 2wks to 6wks as every baby is different. Some start earlier and some later.

We have Anastasia's Baptism tomorrow so I can't talk long as I have to go clean up. Now that I've said that, I bet the little terror wakes up and I get nothing done. Maybe my rellies will see my house and take pitty on me. The whole day could turn into a working bee. We can only dream

Amber- I hear you on the cake mess thing. My hubby made Anastasia's Baptism cake (fruit cake) and the mess was appaling.

I forgot to tell you all that I've been expressing for the last few days in a bid to have a bit more time at my hubbies work Christmas party tonight. We have a little bottle and a bit in the freezer. I think it's about 150ml in total so that my parents can try and bottle feed her breast milk if she needs a feed while we are gone. I hope it works, that way I might be able to go out for a bit longer to things like a movie or a lunch with my friends and leave some boobie milk for daddy to feed bubba.

I'll let you all know if she takes it. If she does, I hope it doesn't make her reject boobie. The bub nurse told me that at this age it probably won't have any effect but sometimes if you don't let them suck from a bottle, they can reject the bottle later down the track when you do try to introduce it.

I was expressing after feeds since day two of being home. The house-visit-midwife was concerned she may not be getting enough milk from my boobs and told me I might only get 10mls in the expresser, but i got 40ml the first time and more every time i'd do it so she didn't know what she was talking about.

The only problem i have at the moment is that I can't really express with the pump because my nipples are dark pink and sore to about 5mm around the nipple bit because the expresser sucks them in so hard. Perhaps I was expressing for too long periods at a time, even though I was getting milk out the whole time.

Ava grazes at my boobs a lot, so they tend to get floppy a lot. I'm drinking heaps of water though. I'll just take your advice, Kirsten, and put her on my boob even if they are floppy jaloppy.

I've found that Ava tends to hate sleeping in her bassinet. I've resorted to letting her lie on my arm on the couch while I sleep, and she will sleep for around 4-5hrs at a time. She'd lay there all day if I let her, but then I'd be couch bound ;)
Only problem is, now whenever I lay her in her bassinet she wakes up 10 minutes later! Little bugger.

Anyone elses nipples tender and pink from over-suckage? Does anyone elses expresser make their nipples and the surrounding skin throb afterward?

Regarding the smiling issue, Ava actually started smiling in the hospital. She smiles an awful lot now, I think she's an incredibly content little pest ;)

I updated her website recently, not sure if I posted any smiles here yet, but if you scroll down to the 'having fun' section, there's 4 smile photos in there.

I'm glad the nipple soreness isn't just me (god that sounds horrible, but you know what I mean). I was worried I was doing something wrong.

Hello:wave:

Got a few minutes to myself :smiliedance: so just in popped quickly.

Patrick is now on his 6 week binge (growth spurt) his feeding times have expanded from 15 mins to 30 mins, god my poor nipples feel tender. I have no idea how he is getting anything from these floppy boobs but he's obviously getting something because its pouring out of his mouth not long after hes come off me. Grrr, I don't get the point of his feeding and then spitting it all back up again. Oh well he's definitely thriving so I've got to be happy with that.

Harlequin or anyone else at that - don't take my word for it about having milk even though your boobs feel empty. If you are having concerns, please see a lactation consultant who can see you for themself and help you take the best course of action. I am no expert trust me I still need help:rolleyes:

I know with my first I felt helpless and was sure I wasn't giving her what she needed with breast milk, so switched to formula at night and still to this day believe that was the best thing I could do for my child at that time. There were alot of other factors surrounding me stress wise which does not help milk supply either along with reverting back to old eating habits (I used to eat one meal a day) etc. All I know is that now I am much more relaxed, I don't smoke (this time), I am eating better and my thought pattern is to stay away from sterilising bottles etc. Which as selfish as it sounds is the main reason I want to keep up the breastfeeding (beside the other obvious reasons shoved down your throat by outside sources;).

Someone asked about co-sleeping and were worried about squashing baby. I don't always co-sleep but have found that both of my children sleep much better if they are touching me in some way. My 3 1/2yr old likes to touch me with her feet while she is asleep and 6 wk old Patrick just likes to lay on me. I used to worry about squashing Paige when she was a baby but this time round has been easier as I am not so scared of the unknown.

Patrick just lays beside me on the bed without pillows or anything else around him except for me of course, he loves it and I enjoy having him snuggled up to me.

Paige sleeps with her father at the moment as Patrick and I have taken over her bed. The funny thing is that when I go to check on her (even though she is with dad) I find her snuggled into dh's back and he is on the edge of the bed which leaves this huge unused space in our king size bed, its hilarious.

Bugger gotta go - Patrick has awoken

See ya later

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure you are right in my case at least. Ava always has milk come out of her mouth when she feeds from my floppies, so I'm guessing there is milk in there :)

As for feeding length times, Ava has been feeding for at least 30mins at a time since the hospital. She will feed for over an hour every now and then. I think she falls asleep on my boob and sucks in her sleep hehe.

Same here...when Ella is on the boob she is there for at least 30mins.......think thats why my nipples get so sore. She usually likes to lie there for 45 mins - but a lot of that is sleeping...I have to wake her. With the bottle she drinks 120mls in about 15 mins!

Happy to say that her tummy troubles have settled down. Today is day two of no breastmilk and using the different formula..

Will put her back on the breast tomorrow...:fingerscrossed: she still likes it...

Hello!! Can I join in here?? Although I was officially due in December, our gorgeous little boy Caleb just scraped through into November. He was born 30th November via elective c-section weighing 7'9". He is now about 17 days old (how time flies). Caleb is my second son (I also have a 3yo).....and was quite a surprise. We were told to expect a little GIRL at the 20 week scan so imagine our surprise when out popped a boy!! He is gorgeos though and I wouldnt change a thing.....

Is anyone else having breastfeeding problems? Caleb is a really short feeder and only feeds from one side most of the time. Its up and down but having to express the other side is driving me nuts......

How about sleep? How is everyone going with sleep? Getting enough? Our little man was pretty sleepy the first but has started to find his lungs and wake up......DH and I have to take it in shifts to get any sleep. I hate not being able to sleep!!! I get so grumpy, I don't handle it at all. Any hints on settling babies???? Even though this is second time round it isn't any easier, Caleb is spewy and windy and doesn't settle easily.

Look forward to getting to know you all,

Hi ladies,

We had the big family Baptism today and it all seemed to go fairly well. Bubby slept the whole way through the ceremony which was a relief because that was my biggest worry. All the rellies ate and were merry. No small children were injured or had fights that couldn't easily be solved with bubbles and/or ice cream.

We went to hubbies Xmas party last night and I was away for a whole 6 hrs. Bubby obviously needed a feed in that time and took straight to the bottle of EBM without even thinking twice about the fact that it was poppy giving it to her. Made me feel unloved actually. I was secretly hoping she would refuse and need her mummy but the little bugger is just using me and doesn't care where the food comes from, so long as she gets it. 110ml was enough and mum and dad told me that it took her about an hour and a few stops and starts to finish that.

I hope everyones weekend was great. Only 7 days till Xmas, hope ur all ready ;)

I've got the pressies, now I've just got the tedious job of wrapping them. That's what $2 Xmas boxes from overflow are for though. Just chuck the pressie in and hey presto, instantly wrapped.

Well I feel so refreshed! Last night I put Summer in her cot (because she wakes up for feeds nearly every 2 hours & shes 20 months old :banghead:) and since being in her cot.... she woke up once :smiliedance: So I might make this a regular thing!!

We have all our xmas presents here now, I think I went a bit over board. We already gave Summer & Taliyah one of theirs. Friday night was the worst Taliyah has been. She had alot of wind because we had been out near the water all day poor little thing.

Bernadette - Try to perservere with the breast feeding. There are way too many benefits for bubby to not give her a chance to get used to it again. She might just have gotten a bit used to the bottle and now going to breast is just a bit more work than she would like. Think of it as her exercise and she is being lazy and doesn't want to do it, just like we can be a bit lazy too.

We had Stasia baptised so young because I wanted to use the baptism gown that my brothers and I wore. Back then, bubbies were generally baptised really young. The belief being that once baptised, babies were under God's protection and if something happened to them prior to baptism, they might not end up in heaven (or at least that's how I understand it from what i've read  ) Anyway, because we were all done young, the gown is quite small. So if we wanted Stasia to wear it, we had to do it now, she only just fitted into it as it was.

I actually had the date set prior to her birth so that I didn't have too much to think about once she was born.

On the Christmas pressie front, we are just going to put some money into Stasia's newly opened bank account. She has way too much stuff (even more now after all the rellies came on the weekend). So we figured we'd just put money into her account for special occasions (Xmas, b'day's, easter etc.) untill she's old enough to understand them. I'm sure she'll get plenty of gifts from grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends for these occasions without us having to buy some as well.

I was looking at all her things this morning and thinking why does this baby need 4 brush and comb sets, 5 baby photo albums, ridiculous amounts of clothing that might get worn once and 10,000 blankets and wraps when there are children out there who have no belongings and barely enough food. It seems like such a waste but how can I not keep things that people have gone to so much trouble and effort to pick out for our beautifull baby girl.

I'm not buying presents this year. *gasp* Hehe it's too much of a pain in the butt. I think we will have 'Not-Christmas' a little later on and get some specials when the shops aren't so busy.

My nipples are so tender right now. Ava was feeding constantly last night and kept squirming with gas pains even though I was giving her the colic stuff. I might try the gripe water tonight.
Do you have to consult a dr before using gripe water?

She's asleep on my arm right now. Man... she's a heavy little thing. I really hope my sling comes today.

I'm lucky, pinkie, people seem to have picked pretty good presents for Ava, I don't really have doubles of anything. That said, she didn't get heaps of presents so there wasn't too much of a chance of people buying the same things. Most people stuck to blankies, soft toys and clothes... stuff you can never get enough of :)

Pinkie you are doing the right thing by deciding not to buy Anastasia presents......I have a 3 year old and we are running out of room for all the presents he has received for the last 3 birthdays and christmas's. Kids these days have waaay too much!

I have bought Caleb a cot mobile for christmas as a pressie but I have mostly done this so I have something to wrap up under the tree from "santa".... for my 3 year olds sake more than anything else!!

I was up last night with Caleb from 230am-530am. Ergghhhhh, I need more sleep. At least he is only feeding every 3 hours (mostly) not every two hours like Sam did.

Breastfeeding is hard isn't it Bernadette? This is second time round for me and its not any easier. I did persist first time round and lasted for 9 months.....but 6 months of that were HARD going.....I will keep on trying as long as I can this time and hopefully things will get better. He is only taking one side properly and only for 5-10 mins....hope he is getting enough......he is on. off, on, off, on, off and each time I have to re-attach him its hard work. And he is full of wind, gas and wriggling in pain in between feeds.....not fun. no sleep!!

Some of my IVF friends put in and bought Ella a gift. I have decided I am not going to give Ella anything for xmas from Santa....like Pinkie says...she has SOOO much already..I might give some extra money to World Vision or something and tell her that is what we did for her first xmas.

I had a Santa picture taken the other day.......but she is just like a little dot...you can barely see her on Santa's lap..

Well, guess I'll sign off now...have to think of what to cook for dinner...:banghead: - too tired to think...

Hi girls

Well I have had a terrible day today but with Charlize but with my two year terror!!!! He climbed up his bookcase while he was in his room suppose to be having a sleep and broke his money box and a frame. I was so cranky!!!!

This morning I went to the shops to have Charlize photo taken with Santa. It is really good.

I agree about the presents thing. My DS has sooo many toys that I think we might have to put an extension on the house to accomodate them. I think it is because his birthday and christmas as so close together and it will be the same with Charlize. I have brought her some clothes and a giant care bear but I know that both of them will get spoilt from the rellies.

I would like to get Charlize christened on the first weekend of March as that was when i had DS christened. We too have a tradition in the family that they wear the same christening dress that me and my brothers and sisters wore. I think it is really good.

Welcome to the newbies too!!!

To the brissie girls Garden city sounds like a great place to meet in the new year.

Not much else to write except on the breastfeeding topic. Yesterday I was feeding Charlize every two hours and my boobs were so floppy and wondered what she was getting but last night she settled well and woke every three hours so she must be getting something. She is slowly getting herself into a rountine which is good but boy am I tired. I just want to sleep for 8hours uninterrupted!

Well better go talk soon

I'm beginning to think she has silent reflux. :(

I want sleep so bad.

harlequin - i hope ava has gone to sleep for you! We had a bit of a restless night as well, samantha woke at 10:30 for a feed, went to sleep around 11:00pm, then she was up at 3:30am, and i gave her to dh at 4am to put to sleep, he brought her in to me at 4:45am for a top-up and then i had to get up at 5:45am for michael! I'm so tired as well, i should go to bed early in the night.

Sending out sleep vibes to everyone!!!

Its so hard isn't it?

Last night I said to Dh that he could do the settling and he just woke me for feeds. I got about 5-6 hours broken sleep and feel much better today. Poor Dh had to stagger off to work with his eyes half closed though.....ooops. Oh well, looking after a 3 yo and a newborn is like having a full time job too so I get to have a turn at having some sleep too!! Tonight its my shift again...

Hi

Decided to migrate over here from the Due in December thread.

My boy was born 21st November.

Hubby has gone to work today and of course the **** has hit the fan (pardon the french). I went out this morning, with the kids. Asked Andrew to do the vaccuuming because Sophie hates it. Of course come home, its not done, and he's been watching star trek all morning, so not as if he's been busy!!! So Im going to have to vac at some point, and then spend an hour or so calming Sophie down!!!

Im not too tolerant atm, living on no sleep, (according to hubby, baby is sleeping really well!!! Yeah right, he's waking every hr to hr and a half, but andrew just sleeps through it!!), my washing machine (washer/dryer in one) kicked the bucket about 6 weeks, was told it would take 1 week to get it fixed, and Im still waiting!!! The weather is bad, so my washing wont dry. I have 2 kids, plus hubbys work uniform that need washing. I usually put on a load every 2 days, and that was without a newborn!!! I have no clean towels, no clean sheets. As you can see im rather annoyed

Jade - Welcome to the bunch, hope you enjoy our company!

Harlequin - It sounds like you are going through what we went through last weekend. Way too much wind, way too much crying, no sleep and a lot of frustration. I feel your pain and can only say that it should stop soon so have faith. :fingerscrossed:

Stasia has only recently started to have a few occasions each day where she is awake and quietly alert to her surroundings. The constant screaming seemed to subside a lot in conjunction with the chiropractor (we took her back today for a readjustment). She seems to be making a few different and new noises now. She makes cute little sighing noises when she is feeding.

I still haven't heard a laugh or seen a smile so I guess she isn't one of those smart babies (I read that some babies are laughing and giggling by now and have very communicative facial expressions)

Maybe she's just holding out on us and will start once she has sussed us out a bit more.

I wasn't going to get a santa photo with Stasia but today I just couldn't help myself and i caved. So now we have photographic evidence of her first Xmas! :tree:

Great sleeping vibes heading your way ladies.

Pinkie, maybe she is smart, she's just more of a thoughtful smart :D

Ava is very expressive with her face, I have a sneaking suspicion she's going to be a little terror when she's older.

I hope you are right about Ava's issues. She is a lot better today/tonight. I'm going to cut out dairy and some other things from my diet in case it is reflux (im pretty sure it was reflux last night). Anyhoo I've checked out some sites on silent reflux and she has most of the symptoms. We'll see how she sleeps tonight, poor little thing. If it doesn't get any better ill take her to the doctor.

Last night during one of her awake moments, I was brushing a tissue over her lips to clean some stuff off and she smiled, so I started making noises and brushing her lips lightly with the tissue. She was loving it haha.

Had a little more sleep tonight, think I managed about 3.5 hrs. Driving me nuts. Think its been over a week now since I had more than 4 hrs sleep. Just hate running on empty. Trying to get into a day stay, and then a residential stay, but its going to take forever.

We had a four hour sleep stint last nite...how exciting!!! Feeling SO refreshed today (not!)..

Harlequin - Ella does the same thing with smiles too...if I brush her lips or her cheeks she grins..(well at least I think that is what it is  )

She is still not really focussing..hope she is not blind as a bat like her dad...

Does anyone else's bub's eyes follow your finger or movements yet (well at 4 weeks?)..

Seeing the health nurse today for her weigh in...please god I hope she has put on weight..she had been eating like a maniac. She does feel heavier though.

Taliyah is such a good girl & I love her for it. Last night she only woke up once! But Summer woke up 4 times. I swear Summer is the new born who needs to wake up at night for a feed, it's so frustrating but I don't know what to do?? It feels like she is on my boob more then Taliyah now!

As for Christmas it's only 5 more sleeps to go now! We got Taliyah a few things, she can keep them for when she is older. She got a musical playmat, a musical aquariam light thingie for her cot, 2 rattle & toy sets, some books and a few more things. I'm sure Summer will help her open them all  I can't wait until xmas!

I only got a couple of hours sleep last night, Caleb was windy (again) and unsettled till 330am and then Sam (3 yo) woke up at 4am with a blood nose.....and wouldnt go back to sleep. I kinda dozed a little between unsettled periods but hardly at all.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Also took Caleb to the early childhood clinic today and the midwife said his wind is "severe" and gave me a few hints, but not sure if it will make any difference. At least I know why he is unsettled now.

Krissy - congratulations!!! I take it you said yes?:smiliedance:

well i had samantha to the paediatrician yesterday for her 6 week checkup and she was weighed etc. she is now 5.35kg and 59cm long. Her head is 37cm, so she is growing nicely! I'm glad that she isn't a spewy baby like my ds was, she's only spat up once and that was after a pretty big burp a few weeks ago!

She is sleeping fairly well, and i don't wrap her, she hates being constricted. Someone mentioned dummies, well she only takes the Nuk ones as well.

i just put my ds to bed for a nap, i closed the door because he is still getting used to teh bed and hopping out, so i checked on him after 10 min, he had been quiet for 5 min, and he is asleep behind the door on teh floor, i couldn't open the door!!! I might go in now and move him, but i don't want to wake him trying to open the door, wish me luck

Hi Girls:wave:
Have been flat chat that last couple of days. Lots of christmas dinners etc.......and I've been left to ice 6 individual christmas cakes.

Had channel 9 over this morning along with the baby listener herself...........it was very surreal having it all done in our home. Elektra was pretty much asleep the whole time they were there, and when they wanted to film me putting her down in her cot I had to shoo the cat out of there curled up in it beforehand. LOL. Not a good look but they didn't show that of course.

Leki has been such a dream as of late..........not much crying at all (thank God). But I'm sure i'll pay for it when teething comes around.

I haven't read all the posts so I'm hoping everyone is doing well and looking forward to christmas. DH pointed out a present under the tree that was to me from Leki. (very cute) so I ran out and did the same for him. I've been very impressed with his creativity lately. But not with the sausage maker that he purchased last week.......It's his new toy. I know, it's very sad, as normal men like to play with cars and x box etc. Anyway he made some nice sausages, but the mess in the kitchen drove me insane and I was up till 1am cleaning it up!

Oh well I'm off, will let you all know when the show is on, and will definately do the personals later. Take care, give all the bubbies butterfly kisses from me.

Bernadette - Wow! That's a lot of weight for 2 weeks. I bet you were noticing the difference.

Alison - Those pics are just gorgeous. You have a very cute little bubba!

Well we had a few good days with bubba recently but I think I counted my chickens before they hatched. She has been very unsettled and windy the last 2 nights. I've really only just settled her now at 9:30 in the morning :fingerscrossed:

She's not really rested properly all night. I've pretty much just layed in bed with her and swapped her from boob to boob which is probably going to worsen the wind situation but it's the only thing that will stop the crying. The wind pain is making her go on and off while feeding and she keeps headbutting my nipple in an attempt to latch on but the pain is making it to hard for her. There is no mistaking that she's in pain because her little face is all screwed up. It's heart breaking.

Oh well, I might go have some breaky and then go back to sleep. I'm supposed to take her to be weighed today so hopefully I don't sleep past the clinic hours.

Hello all, hope everything is going well in baby land for you. I got a bit of sleep last night (4 hours or so) so feeling like I can face the world again.

Pinkie you poor thing, I can sympathise with you. Caleb is very windy constantly too. It makes settling them very hard doesn't it? And you feel so sorry for them , you can't do much to ease the pain. Some things the early childhood nurse suggested are to massage the tummy (lightly) and pump the legs up and down like a bubs is riding a bicycle. Also hubby found this thing at the chemist called INFANTS FRIEND which seems to easer the wind a little. And once bubs is 4 weeks you can use the BRAUER range of colic and wind relief, we used that last time and it was great. HOPE YOU GET LOADS OF SLEEP TONIGHT.

Family_wish, what a great weight gain! What are you using for the Thrush? Caleb has it too and we are using NILSTAT. It hasn't cleared it up and he has been on it for 9 days.....Are you putting anything on your (.)(.)'s too?

Alison - Love the pics, what a cute smile.

Bambikins - who is the baby listener? Did the he/she have any good hints for you? LOL about the sausage maker. MEN!

Mums&bubs congratulations!!!! What wonderful news, good luck.

ANyway, a baby is crying (who could that be?) so better go sort it out.

Pinkie, you sure its not reflux or silent reflux?

Whenever I try to lightly rub Ava's belly when she has wind, she gets soooo upset with me.
I just let her hold my hands, she squeezes them while she pushes and I give her words of encouragement. It seems to calm her a little when I say "Ohh, I know" hahah. Must be nice having someone sympathise with you.

Do any of your babies like to watch the tv? I'll lay Ava on the couch on a pillow and she will sit there watching tele with me. HAhaha what a bad habit.

Yes, I am using Nilstat in her mouth...she doesn't like it very much and I am supposed to use Canestan or Daktarin on my nipples but I have been slack and haven't used it yet. I have got some Canestan...

She is being very unsettled today but its not wind..I think she might have a sore throat like me...and she is sniffling...bugger. She keeps wanting to eat and it is wearing me down...

If she has wind I just "cycle" her legs, bath her or put her in the Baby Bjorn and out it comes...she sounds like such a yobbo when she burps :p ..

Well Charlize too has had really bad wind yesterday and today and I feel so helpless. I am using infants friend which seems to be helping a bit. I've just bought some infants friend today caus i found the Brauers isn't working much 4 us. I can't remember now who was talking about them (maybe Bernadette?)

I also bought 2 more different types of dummy because Stasia doesn't seem 2 want 2 take the avent ones. We're going 2 try NUK and happy baby now :fingerscrossed:

I got it off ebay, its a Jazsling made from Indian Cotton. I believe she makes them out of other material but I think the indian cotton is best. I think there is also a Jazsling website. It cost $35 if I recall correctly.

I've just made a shopping order online and have decided to start eating blander foods, remove citrus from my diet and switch from regular milk to So Good in a bid to help Ava with her wind / reflux (if it is reflux).
I'm gonna eat bland but healthy for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference, then i'll add foods slowly and see what happens.

Harlequin- Yes I am guilty of Leki watching tv, but it's always on one of the music channels.........but DH got annoyed at me and reminded me that a lot of those video clips can be violent and they are rated M I think......which he's right about. Pity they don't have any 24hr ballet chanel.

About that dreaded wind.......has anyone tried propping the matress up at the top so that the babies are not lying down flat as that can make the pain worse. It has worked for me at times.

Harlequin - My hat's off to you for going to the trouble of changing your diet. Does that make me a bad mum because I have no intention of doing anything about my own? I'm too lazy! It makes me upset that God would create the miracle of Breastfeeding and then make all these yummy foods for mum that give bub wind. It sucks that after being good through pregnancy, we then have to stay good the whole time we're breastfeeding, just when we think we can finally pig out :crying:

Amber - Oh no, I missed the show and now I really want to see your Christmas tree. Mine is a $10 table top one from Woolies this year because I was too lazy to get the big tree and decorations out of the garage. So it wouldn't take much to beat that!

I don't think that Leki watching saucy film clips now is going to make her a tart when she's 16. Maybe just make her stop watching them if she decides that she just has to have that mini skirt and barely there boob tube when she's 2. How funny would that be!

I have actually raised the head end of my bassinette a little by using a pillow on the floor under the wheels. It seems to have helped a bit but I did it at the same time that we started using infants friend with most of her feeds so I'm not sure which one is responsible for the new baby we have. I think I got the first smile yesterday.

Well the Christmas day rush starts today for us. We are going to the neighbours house for Christmas drinks tonight. Then we have a welcome home/Xmas party tomorrow morning for a friend of my DH who has been overseas for the last 2 years and then we have Xmas eve mass in the evening and the usuall Christmas day shananigans. I'm too tired for all that! Oh well, I'll soldier on and have a glass of wine at each and hope it makes bubba sleep well. There goes my wonderfull parenting again

Soy milk is kinda gross. Even mixed with sustagen it tastes like nard.
Ava hasn't had that bad wind pain since i stopped drinking milk though, so i guess i should try and stick to it. *sigh*

Maybe it was all the camembert and brie i was eating after popping her out...

My first son is allergic to cow's milk and I had real problems breastfeeding him from about 2 months of age (which is when he must have starting becoming sensitive to what I ate). I was having so much trouble with the breastfeeding that after a couple of months (when he was 4 months-ish) I decided to give him a top up with formula to ease the pressure.....when he projectile vomited and got hives we discovered his allergies! I cut milk out from my diet and the breastfeeding started to settle down. But he was still really unsettled due to bad habbits that we had formed (trying to cope with his unsettled periods) during the first few months of his life. Anyway, I am having b'feeding problems again and am worried about allergies. Like you Harlequin, I am trying to avoid milk/dairy. Having soy milk on my cereal and in tea.......

I think Caleb might have reflux as well as wind though. From the list of symptoms of reflux he : coughs or gags while feeding, is irritable while feeding, arches his back while feeding, refuses food or eats in small amounts (he is a short feeder and refuses a lot), frequently vomits, sudden or constant crying, wet burps, frequent hiccups, poor sleep habbits, hard to settle. Anyone else got these symtoms? What are you doing about them? I read you should cut out chocolate (ouch, thats hard, ha ha), spicy food, dairy, garlic etc. Also elevate the bed (done that) and have short feeds (he does that himself).

About Dummies. Caleb won't take one! My first son sucked the dummy in and never let go till he was 2 years old. Caleb just spits it right out! Its funny how they can be so different....Caleb is such a serious little man too, compared to out first son......they are soooo different already.

STill having b'feeding issues, poor attachment (ouch), thrush that won't clear up (ouch again) and refusal and short feeds (have to express as I get lumpy sore breasts).....

:tree:I hope everyone has a wonderful christmas!!!!

Yup, its part of the reason im changing my diet. Not sure if Ava actually does have silent reflux, but she sure has a lot of the symptoms they describe on the websites.

Bec - Reading through your list of reflux symptoms I was nodding my head and thinking yes, have that one, and that one, and that one. Problem is, they are never all at once and sometimes Stasia has great long feeds with none of them at all. If she had reflux, would she have most of the symptoms, most of the time?

I find that sometimes if she's squirming around and coming on and off, she will do a big poo in the middle of the feed and then continue on feeding really well after that. This is what's leading me to believe that the problem is mostly wind.

Anyways, bubby is asleep (has been for an hour) and I've used the time to paint my toenails a lovely shade of turquoise. I got the polish for free out of Cosmo magazine. It's not a colour I'd ever pay money for but seeing as I didn't have to pay for it I thought I'd be outrageous. It looks pretty good I'm surprised to say!

Now if only I could find a good time to paint my finger nails when I won't be needing to use my hands for about 2 hours (1 hr to file and paint and the other to let dry) I don't think I'll get to do that for another few years

Bec, posted back to you on Birth. Lachy has reflux and has all the things that you mentioned. We got stuck with colic too. Hoping he'll go to sleep soon!! Been up since 12.

Jade - Saw your post on birth. What is the main difference between colic and reflux? i would say that they could be related wouldn't you? I read that colic is just an unsettled baby who cires for 3 or more hours a day for weeks on end. Is there more to it than that? I think my first son had colic. He used to cry for hours and hours and hours (really loud in pain screaming) and hardly slept. He was once awake for 23 hours straight....we went insane as we had only got 2-3 hours of broken sleep for weeks before that and were totally shattered. Can you wait that long to see a nurse for help? I am going to drop in at the clinic on Wednesday for some advice. I will let you know what they suggest.

Pinkie - maybe speak to your early childhood nurse next visit? I dont think they need to have all the symptoms all the time. But not sure. I think its fairly common for babies to have reflux, some probably don't have it as bad as others?

harlequin - whats is the difference between silent reflux and normal reflux?? How are the diet changes going? I don't mind soy milk but my first son was actually allergic to that too (he has since outgrown that allergy too) so I had to have rice milk (ICK). I haven't gone to that extreme this time YET.

ANyway, happy christmas eve to everyone and there lovely little families. Enjoy your first xmas together.

Thanks for letting me know what they suggest. All the nurses/drs here are shut till the 2nd of January!! I've been living on 2-3 hrs sleep max a night for probably about 3 weeks now. Driving me insane. Dont know if there is a difference between colic/reflux, that was just what the dr told me lol. Im not too good with remembering info atm due to the lack of sleep.

hi....just found this forum.
My beautiful baby boy was born 18 november at 9.46 am.....he weighed 2.836kg/6 pound 1 oz. and was 52cm in length! he was 5 days late and i was induced due to high blood pressure and fluid....

My boy has been diagnosed with colic....however i think maybe it is reflux....as he has a lot of the symptoms of reflux....however he does find it hard to pass wind and seems to get a lot of pains in his belly, (also quite hard belly) then cries and is hard to settle....things have settled down tho, and i have been using Infacol (i think it is helping, as no bursts of long sessions of screaming) and he is a lot more settled.....he is also starting to 'fart' lol.....he never 'farted' until about a week ago without exploding in his nappy. so hoping that is a signs his little systemt is starting to develop and able to get rid of some of the wind.....

hope to talk to you all on here regularly as i think it is a great forum!

Well we had our own little Christmas miracle... Ava slept through the night last night hehe.

I woke up at about 1am to her grizzling only to find she was fast asleep and just making silly noises so I went back to bed. She woke up again because Griever got something up his nose and was snorting, so I was all "bloody dog, good one!". I got her up and started feeding her, then looked at the clock and realised it was 4:20am! She'd gone to bed at about 9:30pm!!
I was flabbergasted. http://www.darkenrahl.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

After that stint she slept for another 4 hrs. Mind you she had been very upset in the evening beforehand because she was overtired. It took me quite a while to settle her, but once she was down she was out for the count! Woohoo!

On another note, I made a new photo album and front page for Ava.
Its the same address as the other : http://www.tinysouls.com/avamarie but if you click on the photo album link it will take you to more pics and movies of her laughing and stuff like that. http://www.darkenrahl.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Congrats on the birth of your boy, Jackie and welcome to the thread :)

Becstar, I think the difference with silent reflux is that the baby doesn't burp out the bile. It will come up, then they will swallow it and damage their throat twice. http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/silent_reflux.php

Ava has a lot of those symptoms and I have noticed her smacking her lips with a grimace on her face like she's tasting something gross. I'm still not sure if she has silent reflux though.

The diet is kinda half going, im still not having milk so thats the main thing, but occasionally I do eat food that isn't bland hehe.
She hasn't had one of her really painful back-arching squirmy gas sessions since I cut out dairy and have stopped eating fancy stuff like camembert and chocolates n sweets.

The last two nights have been good so we'll see if it keeps on this way. She's been up more during the day hours and sleeping better at night. That said, she was very overtired before bed last night...

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all have a lovely day.

I hope everyone is having a lovey christmas day today.......so far so good except very tired. My 3 yo is overloaded with yet MORE toys. We need to build an extra room on the house to fill with toys now......they just keep coming. And now we have two kids!!! Imagine what it will be like next year..

Harelquin congratulations on such a good sleep. What a nice xmas pressie for you!! All I want for christmas is some sleep! Hubby tried to grant me that wish last night. I expressed enough for a feed so that he could do the first middle of the night feed but wouldn't you know it - I couldn't get to sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! And then I woke up at 1am when Caleb was up for his bottle anyway cos he screamed the house down while hubby heated the bottle. Lol. Oh well.
Didn't get much sleep again.

Poor bubba definatley has reflux. Do you think its possible to have both reflux and silent reflux? Sometimes he grimaces and burps and vomits (large amounts) and other times he appears to swallow it back down. ICK. Either way he screams and cries......not a happy boy.I have cut dairy out of my diet and it hasn't made any difference, in fact it seems to have gotten worse the last couple of days......

Jackie welcome and congratulations on your bub! I look forward to chatting, only new here myself.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

I just dont know what to do. I know everytime I come on here I have a whinge, but Im not coping. I've had yet another night of no sleep. Had Lachy fall asleep at 10 thought thank god, went to sleep, and he woke at 12, and then didnt go back to sleep in his cot until 7. He had catnaps of about 20mins or so if I was holding him upright, but each time I put him in the cot he just screamed. I have he cot raised, but he still hates it. My girl woke at 6.30, and if Im lucky she might have half an hr to an hr nap at about 3, so will get another little sleep then assuming Lachy sleeps then too. This is probably week 3, that Im on about 2-3 hrs sleep a night.

Im not eating citrus, fatty foods, chocolate, soft drinks, tomato or spicy foods, cause I react to them because of an operation I had a couple of weeks ago, so I just dont see what else I can do.

I cant get into see my dr/nurse until at least Tuesday the 2nd

Jade you poor thing I feel for you, that sounds exactly like what my first son was like......and I didn't have another child to look after then!! YOU POOR THING!! I am finding it hard this time round but I am at least getting a few hours sleep a night.

Can you hubby help out? Last night I expressed a feed, went to bed and left hubby to it. I was in bed from 11pm-3amish before hubby came to get me for the next feed. I had trouble sleeping for all of that time (TYPICAL) but it was nice to rest and lay down and not have to get up. Any chance you can do something like that and give yourself a break? Have a break-down in front of your hubby and let him know that you are desperate!!

I cant get lachy to take a bottle. I expressed the other night with my aim to be andrew feed him when sophie wakes up then i could sleep for a few hrs then (hubby cant have interupted sleep - epileptic). And lachy just continually screamed. Tried a few teats, didnt make a difference. Gave him the boob, latched on straight away!!! Drives me nuts, cause hes taken a bottle before. We had this prob with soph, ended up having to do an abrubt wean to get her onto the bottle.

I hope you all had a great Christmas Day. Stasia slept really well today, so that was a nice break. She's been really unsettled and windy for the last 2 hours though and I haven't been able to get her to take a feed.

We are making headway on the dummy front. We have been able to get her to take the NUK dummies. I'll keep perservering with the other brands as well though. I'd like her to be adaptable and not rely on just one type.

Jackie - Welcome to our little community. I hope bubby is doing well and that your Chrissy was great!

Harlequin - I just looked at Ava's site. She's just gorgeous and the videos are very cute. She looks to be impressed with the Fisher Price play mat/ gym thingy. I nearly bought one the other day but I'm hoping they might be on sale after Christmas :fingerscrossed: . I find myself comparing Stasia to Ava all the time because they were born on the same day and are both girls. It's funny how the first thing I thought was "Ava likes it, Stasia will too then". Stupid I know, she might absolutely hate it. Just wishfull thinking

We had a lovely xmas, DD received too many presents! Thomas enjoyed himself, and has been cracking the biggest smiles at everyone, and babbling. I'm very biased, but he's so damn gorgeous!

We're on holidays at the moment. Good to get out of the house, and I have family helping with night feeds so i am having a bit more rest. Thomas is settling into a routine now, sleeping from 10pm to at least 4am.

Anyways. babies are asleep so going to savour some 'alone time' with my husband!

Hi Girls
Hope you all had a fab chrissy..........ours was lovely and DH put on a delish but a bit too formal sit down 3 course meal. And of course the kitchen looked nasty after it all but lucky the family was over to help. Elektra was up from 10am and was passed around till 6pm without a single nap..........she wasn't so happy when she was put down for the night and rightly so as she doesn't like taking a bottle (I expressed so I could have a few iykwim)
and we had all kept her up with the chrissy cheer and endless flashes from the camera.

Anyway we got up at 7 this morning and decided to all go back to bed till 10, with Leki asleep on the breast. We went to another chrissy function and the poor bub slept for the whole day only waking up for a feed.

Harlequin- Yay:smiliedance: uninterupted sleep. Lets hope she keeps it up.
Becstar- I know what you mean about trying to find the space for toys etc. I've had to be the present nazi and let family know that we don't have the space for mounds of toys..........teddy bears are coming out of our ears iykwim.
Jade-:hugs: I hope your getting some sleep during the day when bub has a nap, as you really need more sleep. Do you feel it is a cry of pain or another type of cry?
Pinkie- Leki won't take the dummy unless she's really worked up. I didn't know that different brands would make a difference.......maybe I should try another brand. She got given a dior dummy:laughing: at the baby shower.......maybe it's not to her taste.

To everyone else I've missed have a wonderful christmas time...........these are very special days for us all.

My doctor isn't open yet!! Stupid public holidays I agree! We asked for her to explain what it meant but she said 'NO I CAN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING U HAVE TO GO TO UR GP & HE WILL EXPLAIN IT ALL' stupid ladY! I'm sure she could have told us something!

Harlequin I meant to say, I have already been avoiding spicy food and citrus.....makes no difference. ANd in fact, since I gave up dairy he seems to have gotten worse. lol.

I spoke to the nurse today and she said that he was "overfeeding". YEAH RIGHT!!! He is 4 weeks old (tommorow) and he feeds 9-10 times a day for around 5-10 mins at a time. Does that sound like over-feeding? She did say is could be reflux and "see how it develops".

Jade as far as what to do about reflux the nurse wasn't that helpful. She said to mostly do the things we have already talked about, like keep bub upright for 20 mins after a feed, raise the mattress by putting a small pillow under the mattress. She also said to try and feed more upright. You are breastfeeding, like me, so you are supposed to tilt yourself backwards so that they baby is drinking "uphill". Hmmmmm, with the breastfeeding problems we are already having that sounds pretty impossible to me!!! I have been using INFANT'S FRIEND from the chemist too, lots of people have recommended that to me.

Julzy luck you, what a good nights sleep you must be getting. No wonder you sound so happy and cheerful!!! I hope it rubs of on us (the sleep that is)......lol.

mums&bubs I have had a couple of friends with baby who were born with hip problems, not sure if its the same thing but sounds like it. Basically they just need more support around there hips while they continue to develop. One friend's baby had to wear a brace for a month and another friend had to put double cloth nappies for extra support on bubs. It didn't make much difference to carind from the babies, except nappy changing was a little harder!!

family_wish I hope Ella settles a bit for you. Glad all else sounds like its going well....

bambikins nice to hear all is going well and glad you had a good xmas.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their christmas holidays (except for the fact that the doctors aren't open. lol). We have had a lovely break, a lovely christmas and we are enjoying our slightly larger family this year.....my sister's bub had her first christmas too!

Lots of love and sleep to all.

Julzy - I'm jealous too! DD slept through from a very early age like your little girl, but Thomas just isn't following suit! i can't remember what I did last time! He has had bad reflux and I have put him on the S26 AH formula, and that seems to be settling him better. I might 'up' his 10pm bottle and see if he sleeps for a bit longer. Wow, having a boy is alot different from a girl. He's so much more placid and loves a cuddle. He likes tummy time.

Better go wake DD up or we'll be having another late one tonight. Take care everyone - loving all the avatars!

Jade- It's definately hard to settle a baby when their in pain and when they are "overtired" (including you) it becomes near impossible because it becomes a vicious cycle. I'm sure that the doctor will be able to give the baby something for the reflux that will help almost immediately. A mother in our group was having the same problem as your having and the reflux treatment took about a week to take effect, but they are both now getting so much more sleep. The baby will definately be picking up on your tiredness aswell, which makes it worse. Hang in there.......the sleep will come.

Is anyone's little ones getting that awful stuff under the creases of their necks. Leki had this strange smell around her neck a few days ago and this morning the collar on her night shirt was wet and yellow. When I tried to lift her head back and see her neck (which she can't stand of course) it was reddened like a nappy rash and smelt revolting..........I feel pretty bad about it as I have been bathing her everyday due to the heat etc. Does anyone know what this neck thing is and what should I put on it. I've tried to clean it with a soft damp cloth but it's getting a bit inflamed. Help would be much appreciated.:D

becstar
27-12-2006, 18:05
Bambikins, Caleb gets "neck fluff" but it isn't yellow and causing inflamation. I just wash it out at bath time and dry it. Maybe the fluff and sweat that ends up in their neck folds is staying damp because it isn't aired out properly (because she can't support her head yet). Maybe just keep cleaning, drying and using moisturiser or something.....??? sorry I am not much help.

Jade glad you got a couple of hours sleep :sleeping:at least. Good luck at the doctors.........hope he can help you, let me know what he says!

I have expressed another bottle for Dh to give Caleb tonight........which means some extra sleep for me :smiliedance:. I hope!! I am jealous of anyone whos baby is settling at night (esp those sleeping through) but I would be happy if he just settled again at night when he woke - - without staying awake for hours.

Could it be from not drying it properly after a bath, Amber? One of the midwives drilled into me the fact that you have to extend all parts of the baby and dry properly between every little crease in the skin otherwise they get sore and scabby.

It almost sounds like a fungal type thing, like what you'd get in between your toes if you don't dry them properly. Maybe you can try some of that Medipulv antibacterial powder on the back of her neck.

becstar, sorry to hear that. :(
Does the 5-10min feeds take a toll on your boobs? I know when Ava was comfort feeding a lot my tits were horribly tender.
Maybe you should try putting her on your shoulder and burping her for 5 mins or so when she stops feeding, then put her back on your boob.

I remember when Ava was more upset she was doing a lot of that comfort/cluster feeding, and I suspect she was actually upset because she wasn't getting a nice long feed.

If you can somehow get your bubs to eat more from your boobie, you will definitely get more sleep because I had a similar issue with Ava in the beginning. Now that she's getting more and im putting her back on my boob (i even wake her sometimes by burping her) she sleeps a lot better and is happier.

The best place for me to feed is here at the computer. I put her on my left boob with my arm underneath and sit here typing while she eats. I think she gets a real good feed cos im so comfortable and relaxed. She sleeps for ages afterward.

Hi all

I hope you have had a very merry Christmas and that you have a very happy and safe new year.

Well I have not had much time to catch up on the thread. Tahlia has been keeping me busy, she will not settle at all during the day unless you are holding her – makes it difficult to get anything done, as soon as you put her down she would start to cry. We reached crisis point Christmas Eve and ended up calling for help in the form of my SIL who came over yesterday and taught us to settle her when we put her down. The 1st time it took us 1.5 hr, it was just horrible, I just wanted to be able to pick her up, but knew that I had to do it for my and her sanity. . The SIL was great, so calm, she really helped us both get thru it. But it is getting better, today she will sleep as soon as you put her down, then stay asleep for 30 to 45 min, then wake, and it takes us between 15 min to .5 hr to settle her, then she will sleep for another hour. So at least she is getting some sleep during the day. So far the nights have been good, usually only wakes ones and goes back to sleep with out a problem (except for last night it took us .5 hr).

Hope everyone is doing well, I hope I now will have more time to catch up on the thread and see what has been going on for all of you.

Sorry girls I didnt mean to rub it in
I think its just a benifit of bottle feeding, being able to initiate a bit more routine and such, Dont worry im sure all your babys will follow suit soon enough!

Bambikins : I would more then likely say its milk under her chin, I dont think water would be causing a smell which leads me to think it would more likely be milk thats to blame!! Perhaps she is dribling some when drinking and its getting down under the creases in her neck, I know Mikaylah does it alot, you just have to be sure to dry under there after each feed! Goodluck!

Julzy don't worry you aren't rubbing it in, it gives us something to hope for. lol. maybe one day we will get there.....actually I know we will, I have a 3 year old and he sleeps through now even though once he was the world's worst sleeper.

lenko sorry to hear bubs wasn't settling during the day, it can be a pain when you want to get things done, but at least its getting a bit better now you have some techniques. You are lucky bubs re-settles easily at night. I'm jealous again.

Harlequin thanks for the advice. I have been trying to extend his feeds, waking him, burping him etc. Even if he is awake though sometimes he is just NOT interested. He just puts his mouth on my boob and looks around wide eyed but won't suck. I give up after 10-15 mins, occassionaly he will have a minute or two more but that is it. And yes my boobs are sore. well actually boob. One only. The left one is sore. He doesn't attach very well on that side, and its his favourite side.

Caleb is settling well during the day still......he is even falling asleep in his bassinet BY HIMSELF:eek: sometimes. WHY CAN'T HE DO THAT AT NIGHT???? At night he is still taking a couple of hours to settle. Its a pain.

Anyway, better try and get a few things done instead of playing around on the computer all day.

Bec, Ava only started sleeping well at night a little while ago so you may find that Caleb will start to soon as well. I hope so anyway!

I find that keeping her awake a little more during the day helps, just so long as you let them nap a little so they don't get overtired. Try extending his daytime awake time a little each day so that he's more tired at night.

If he doesn't suck, he mustn't be hungry. Maybe he's getting a lot of milk in those 5-10 mins? Does he dribble out milk at all? Can you see it around his lips while he is feeding?

I'd just try to make him stay awake a little during the day, just start slow and try not to stimulate him at all at night.

Hi all,

I'm jumping on the not settling bandwagon. Stasia is not settling after her night feeds either. My hubby went back to work today (he's been on hols since the birth) and that meant I had to do everything myself last night. I had a short stint of sleep on the couch, walked miles, even contemplated a drive in the car. Eventually I got her back to sleep still feeding, lying in my bed. I don't want to get her into the habbit of sleeping with us but it's all that will settle her. She still in my bed now. I got her back to sleep after her morning feed and I've been too scared to move her to the bassinette incase she wakes up.

We saw the paediatrician yesterday and he suggested 1ml of plain old adult mylanta b4 each feed if we feel she has a bit of reflux. Thought some of you ladies might like to try it!

He also suggested expressing the first 10-20 mls of milk b4 each feed so she gets more of the hind milk which should help her to get less wind and will settle her a bit more. I'm willing to try anything at the moment so I'll give it a go!

I'm a bit nervous with today being my first day alone with bubby. DH comes home in about 5hrs and I'm counting down.

P.S - Anyone know why medicare wasn't open yesterday. It wasn't a public holiday and I went to claim the paed visit only to find it closed! Now I have to make a special trip to the shops just to claim it. Not happy  How come they get extra days off work when everyone else has to go back!

Hi again

Well about the hip thing, my mum told me today that my sister had it & was in a cast until she was 13 months old and couldn't walk until she was nearly two :( So I hope Taliyah doesn't have it. I wish my bloody doctor would be open already !!

Leesha sorry to hear u've been sick. We've been sick in this house too. Taliyah, Summer & I all have had a cough, Taliyah's is the worst poor little thing :crying: I hate when my kiddies are sick! She is now due for her 8 week old needles but due to her being sick I am going to put them off for a little while.

What is everyone doing for new years? We are having all the family and some friends over for drinks and my sister is getting singstar lol so I can just imagine that...
I can't drink still breastfeeding but that's okay I can have fun laughing at everyone else can't I :p

Anyways thats all for me for now xxx

sorry to hear about all the bubs that don't settle well, samantha is fairly easy to settle, will go to sleep by herself in her cot, or when i'm holding her walking around, but not if i sit down...

For New Years we're going to a party, really just a dinner, and i might have one drink, but as i'm b/f i will be the designated driver!

The next weekend will be a party for my birthday and dh's birthday, so lookingforward to that.

Fingers crossed everyone sleeps well tonight, sam has been sleeping from around 8pm - 4am, except for last night, she woke at 1am, then at 6am, so not too bad, as she goes back to sleep during the night easily.

Not doing anything exciting for new years eve here. Will probably be in bed :sleeping:before midnight (sleep is too precious atm to stay up - sorry big party pooper here!!).

I am annoyed about Medicare not being open too. Hope they are open tommorow, I want some money back.....

Has anyone been to see a chiropractor for their baby? My mum went and saw one today for her back and they were talking about Caleb and about how he has reflux. Apparently a chiropractor can help - if they are squished in the womb it means that their bad back can cause them to feed in a funny position, tensing up their whole body, including their stomach causing reflux. What do you think??

Really really annoyed!!! I got my period! :'(

Bec - I took Stasia to the chiropractor for colic and it has helped a bit. They fixed up a few ribs and a neck vertebrae. She seemed to like it being done and was very calm and relaxed the whole time. I'd much rather take her to a natural therapist than give her drugs but we're giving her just about anything at this stage (Brauer's, infants friend, donalix) the chiro did help but not enough if you ask me!

Jade - R u breast feeding? Caus if you are, that's pretty early to be getting ur period (isn't it?) If your bottle feeding then I guess it is pretty normal. On the plus side (or maybe it's not a good thing to discuss at this new baby stage) you could get pregnant again if you want

Fully breastfed!! I think its early too, with Soph I didnt get my periods at all, then I got preg with Lachy lol. So I guess I've been period free for over 2 years anyway, was just hoping it would last longer!!! No more babies for us thanks!!

Hi all

Jade - sorry to hear about a/f that is really early to get them. I hope mine dont come back for ages it is so nice not to have them.

To all those babies that are sleeping through the night can you tell my Charlize how to do it!!!! She is pretty good at night. She is usually settled around 7.30pm and than wakes at between 11 & 12 and then again at between 3 & 4 but the only thing is she is really hard to settle after the 3 feed and I find myself bringing her into bed with me which I dont want to do. I also want to get rid of the dummy because I put it in her mouth get back into bed and then have to get up to put it back in. I am trying to get her to suck her thumb but it is a bit little yet.

Not much else happening except my little girl is eight weeks old today. She is smiling at me all the time which is so nice.

Well off to get some sleep

I dunno, to be honest I don't like the idea, but that's just me. :)
I remember watching a show about chiropract..orism, one of the chiropractors on the show said that because babies bones are new and aren't properly formed yet that its not a good idea to manipulate them. The guy basically went on to say that chiropractors who work on newborns are dodgy.

I dunno how much truth there is to that, but I do agree with the part about their bones.
I mean if baby bjorns are supposed to be bad for newborns because of the stress they put on the growing coccyx, then surely manipulating a growing spine is a little risky...

jade21887

I'm going to look into an osteopath i think. I saw one a few times when I was pregnant. They manipulate the muscles that hold the bones impretty sure

COming in a bit late to this thread....I have a November bubba too! Tayla Grace was born on the 2nd:kiss: She's growing so fast!

I took Tayla to the chiropractor 3 times from when she was 2 weeks old and it worked wonders!!! She has totally changed...so relaxed and happy now:) I would definately recommend giving it a go. The chiro was a fmaily friend and very reputable....you can definately get some dodgy ones. Oseteopaths are meant to be great.:)

My friend is an osteopath, he's worked on me a few times. He lives back in sydney though.
I'm pretty sure osteopaths still manipulate the joints and bones as well as the muscles... I know he's cracked my neck and other parts before :D I wonder if you asked if they would just manipulate the muscle instead...

With Ava, she changes so often that even if I were to take her to a chiropractor or something similar, I would never know if her change in mood was due to their manipulation or if it was just her. Especially when she was really young, she would have a bunch of really good days then bad ones, so there would be no way of knowing for me if they were doing any good.

Hi Katie welcome to the thread

Jade! I have my period too & I am both my kiddies are fully breastfed. I got it back straight away after Summer was born to so it sucks!! I was hoping this time it would stay away for months but no it had to rear its ugly head in

As for the settling business, Taliyah is my little angel at night she wakes up once and goes straight back to sleep but she can be a bit of a pain in the butt during the day, she likes to be held & have my attention 24/7.. sounds just like her sister

Taliyah was talking so much last night, me & my mum were laughing heaps about it because she has a husky sort of voice nothing like Summers but its so cute.

hi, i lost this thread for a while, but now i've found it again, so , i'm back.

Jacinta is now 6 wks old, seems healthy enough, midwives and CYH nurses are happy with her.

Today it is six weeks after my complicated horrible emergency c-section, so from today i can drive again. Have been trying to work up to actually getting me and Jacinta into the car all day to go somewhere, anywhere. Then i thought, if that's too much, maybe we should walk around the block with the stroller. I can't get that happening either.

We are both dressed, the stroller is ready, i don't know why i feel so scared to leave the house by myself. Just getting the nappy bag ready, worrying that when i put her in the stroller, she will fuss and scream the house down again, i really don't want to disturb her now sh'es finally having a rest.

We have had both the washing machine and the dryer die on us in last ten days, Jacinta and i both have oral thrush. Stings like hell, esp when feeding her.

It's only been the last few days, Jacinta has started smiling - very briefly, for a second if i'm lucky, but even so, it's very special to finally see her gummy smile.

I must admit though that it's not too bad. I thought that it would be worse! I've heard stories that it's usually really heavy and you get bad cramps and it can last for a while etc but I'm pleased to say that those reports are false!

Last time I got my AF back after 9 months (lucky me) and the first one was really light. I thought YIPPEEE. But the next one was a horror and I couldn't leave the house as I was soaking through a maternity pad every half hour and in agony from cramps. Probably because I had 18 months period free (pregnancy and 9 months after).

I feel stressed about leaving the house too. Mostly because I am worried about breastfeeding while out (still having attachment problems) and also having an unsettled baby. Its hard to get them to sleep when you are not at home and then they get all unsettled when you do get home as well........as for getting ready to go out, its a nightmare juggling two kids!!! My DS1 is still toilet training so I need to pack changes of clothes for him, nappies for Caleb, etc etc etc. Its never-ending!!

Anyway, feeling very tired should be resting. Oh darn, is that a cry I hear?

Hi Ladies

:tree: merry xmas and all the things that go with it. I haven't had alot of time over the last few weeks so have just been checking in, having a quick read and only replying to one thread each time so feel a bit slack that I haven't written here for a little while.

I won't do personals as I am just being a slack (o) at the moment and just wanted to say hello and put my 2 cents worth in if I can help.

Ffrenchstar its great to see you here, Patrick also shares the same birthday with Tayla. I think we also met in another thread around May last year, anyway your user name isn't one to forget :p

Well christmas was nice, Paige was spoilt and Patrick did pretty well too, we all ate too much as is the norm for this time of the year and poor Patrick suffered too because of all the different foods I ate.

He is also having trouble settling but I think it comes down to how much milk I have and him guzzling it. Apprently breastfeeding takes a few months to settle so its not just our babies its us lol.

I have been feeding him upside down to try and make him slow down sounds weird I know but he is almost drowning on my milk flow so then sucks in air and starts a vicious circle. I have been told to express a little to start but thats easier said then done when you have a baby screaming at you at 4am in the morning and your trying to squeeze something out whilst your half awake and can't see what you are doing.

Today he finally took a bottle which was fantastic as I got to go and have a facial and massage today. Oh bliss my first time away from my kids in way over 8 weeks. I expressed last night and basically told hubby if it went pear shaped to ring me and I would be back in 20 mins. Not a peep out of my phone :smiliedance: Hubby incidently told me to plan this day away as my christmas present.

Both of the children were very good for hubby, Patrick slept nearly the whole day away, didn't throw up and drank his milk out of a bottle. Paige played happily, didn't harrass Patrick and was asleep when I got home. Now how come I don't get days like that? No seriously it was great to know that hubby had it under control.

Patrick will often go to sleep on his own but when he doesn't I have realised that it is because something is wrong and it is nearly always wind pain and soon as he gets that out of the way he falls asleep but as I said before he has alot of wind. As tedious as it is I have had to get him off the boob every two or three minutes to burp him so that he gets a good feed in the end, once he gets to the hind milk he can settle in. Mind you he feeds for 10 to 15 mins tops and is very content for 3 to 4 hours so those of you that are worried about how long it takes to feed, it varies from child to child. Some are fast efficient feeders some are very slow like Pagie was when she was a baby it used to take over an hour each feed for her.

Patrick tends to have his last feed at around 8pm and wakes anywhere between 3.30am and 4.30am which isn't too bad now compared to the 2 hourly feeds I was enduring earlier. Those of you still suffering the extra feed its probably because they are around the 6 week mark too which is when most babies will go on a feeding frenzy for a few days and then settle into another routine. Well thats what has happened with both of my children.

I read that one or two of you are concerned about your babies sleep patterns, just for your info they have a sleep cycle of 45 mins so if you have a child out cold for atleast 20 minutes chances are you can move them without disturbing them but if you try to move them close to the end of a sleep cycle they will wake up and it can be very hard to settle them back down. It does come with time that they will put themselves back to sleep they just have to learn how to do it.

oh gosh I have babbled on a bit, well Happy New Year to everyone and catch you next year if not before.

Take care ladies and bubbies

Kirsten

You girlies have been a bit busy!! Its only been a few days since my last visit and there has been heaps of posts haha!

Okay, where to start!

Regarding periods, I got mine back a couple of weeks ago to~!! Sux sooo bad!! But Im not B/F so I was kinda expecting it I guess.

Regarding Chiropracters on newborns,I to dont like the idea, I have heard good and bad reports about them, but Yeh i just dont like the idea myself LOL.

Umm wat else was there!

Smiling!!! Smiling is awesome! Mikaylah has the most beutiful smile ever! She has been smiling for a few weeks but they were only really short smiles and it took alot to get her to do it, she is so serious haha, But now they are the full blown social smiles and my god they could melt the antarctic haha!

My advice to the girls who are scared to leave the house is DO IT ASAP!!! The sooner you just bite the bullet and get out there the better for everyone!!!
If you continue to just stay at home chances are you may fall into a depresion, which isnt good for you or bubby. Plus if all bub knows is home, then when you do finally start taking them out they will scream and carry on, coz its all too unfamiliar!!
So my best advice is to just do it, once you have a few times you will be a pro at it!!
Im NEVER home, i go batty if im here to long!! And if I can do it with a 3 and a half year old and 7 week old you can to haha, I was terrified about that at first but as soon as i did it that was it, I was off haha! Soo goodluck!!!

ummm i think that was all

catch up again soon!

Well back from the drs. Lachy's been diagnosed with silent reflux, weve been given a few things to do, and were seeing the drs again next week to see if thats working. Ive been diagnosed with postnatal depression. So wrapping my head around that, but kinda glad that theres a reason for myself falling apart, and not being able to do things I usually do.

Jade - I replied to your post on birth, thinking of you and hope you are okay xx

Julzy I am stressed about leaving the house but am still getting out and about. We went to the shopping centre for about 5 hours today (got my shopping fix and caught up with a friend), plus been to my 3 yo's preschool concert, playgroup, mother's group, out to the early childhood a couple of times, the doctors a couple of times, down to the local shops every second day. Am getting out and about, just don't like it cos of all the breastfeeding hassles we are having. Its no fun bfeeding in public when you know you are going to have hassles....it stresses me out.

Kristlea how do you bfeed upside down? I am having enough trouble feeding the normal way. LOL. I am have a fast flow and let down too which is causing Caleb wind and other problems and my midwife suggested feeding him so that he was upright but that sounds impossible to me. THere is no way I could do that.

Anyways heres hoping we all get a good nights sleep.

Bec - I get him latched on and then lay back as far as possible in the recliner chair - only problem is his nose seems to be squashed from the weight of his head so I try to prop his head a little. I only have to do this for a few minutes until the flow has slowed up. The reason I do this is because I get let down as soon as he latches on so basically hes drowning in milk. Weird as it sounds I don't get the let down when I express, go figure. Anyway hope this helps.

It's always so sad when an older person in the family dies close to the birth of a baby. My DH's grandfather died as I was being induced so bubby's birthday will always be a reminder of him. If she had been a boy, we were going to name her after him.

It was the first of my DH's grandparents to pass away. So he was pretty upset and had to travel to the funeral while I was still in hospital with bubby. He was a bit torn as to whether he should go to the funeral or stay with me, but I told him to go to the funeral because you can never have that event back again.

I think Stasia and DH's grandad must have had a little chat between the time of his death and her birth (he died at 7am and she was born at 5pm). Maybe they share a soul. Just a nice little thought.

jade21887
31-12-2006, 15:30
Thanks guys. We cant go to the funeral unfortunately. They live about 10 hrs away. Hubby cant take more time off, hes just gone back from paternity leave, and we'd need at least 5 days to get up and come back (2 days each way!), we just cant afford the petrol and a motel stay at the moment.

In regards to my weight, I got on the scales the other day for the first time and have lost 18kg's. 9 more to go and a hell of a lot of toning up to do, maybe a tummy tuck to (I wish).

Hi Ladies,

Its taken me a while to get around to joining you here, but between the mini hungry hippo and a DH who hogs the 'puter, it is hard to find the time!

I'm loving this gig as a mum - its great! Little Lily is just a joy. The initial horrors of those three days after my milk came in when I couldn't even put on a bra, much less a top, are forgotten and feeding her is my favourite thing to do. I've started to get a crick in my neck from not being able to take my eyes off hers and I love the way she looks at me.

My mum died a month before we found out we were pregnant and I miss her like crazy. The worst thing is when I look into Lily's eyes when she's feeding and finally I understand just how much my mum loved me - it tears me apart that I can't tell her that I know now.

Well at five weeks she's pretty much doing all the stuff we'd expect. She's a great feeder, has a grumpy patch of up to 3 hours a day, usually in the evenings and the occasional 'hug me mum' day when I can't seem to put her down or she gets stroppy. We haven't been to child health yet - first apt next week, so I don't know how much weight she's put on, but in the week after her birth she put on 200g and she's definitely getting bigger.

We've got a doc apt on Thurs to check out a couple of weird little lumps on her neck behind her right ear - they aren't visible, but are around pea sized and feel a bit squashy, sort of like cartilage. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm a Brissy chick too, so if there's a meet up going on, I'd love to be part of it.

Cheers to us all for being such champs - I feel so smug - aren't we clever?

Welcome to the club youngones, how old is your bub? I just scraped into the Nov 06 club, my DS2 was born on the last day of November!! He is now 4 weeks. I also have an older son, who is 3.

I love the name Lily, its lovely. We were going to call our bubs Bella or Lily.......he was supposed to be a girl!!! We were told he was a girl at the 20 week scan so imagine our surprise when out popped a little boy!!! We wouldn't change him for anything now though.

So sorry to hear about your mum. That must be really hard for you, particularly the timing (not that the timing is ever right). Have you found a mother's group to join for "mums without mums"? I know we have some local groups like that. It would be good to chat to other people who are missing the support and love of their special mum's when they are experiencing motherhood themselves.

It sounds like you are doing a great job and enjoying every moment of it!!!

I look forward to chatting with you

harlequin - all the best tomorrow, let us know how it goes.

well, samantha is 2 months old today (almost 9 weeks), and she had to have her immunisations. 3 needles plus we also bought the new rotavirus vaccine, she has been a little grumpy this afternoon, but not too bad... I feel so bad making her cry after the needles.. also had her weighed etc..

She was pretty grizzly tonight and didn't want to come off the breast.

Happy New year!!! We went to Casino (nsw) for two nights and stayed at our friends parents farm. It was something different and really relaxing. DS was up at 4.40am new years day and I was not happy seem I only got to bed at 1.00pm.

ATD-FAH - well done on Noah sleeping for that long!!!

Youngones - Welcome and look forward to the meeting you when we arrange something

Harlequin - Thinking of you tomorrow - i hope everything turns out alright for Ava.

bilbymum - Welcome back I was wondering where you had gone.

Well Charlize has been a little piggy today. I think I have spent most of the afternoon feeding her. She is due for her needles too but I couldnt get into the doctor till next Wednesday. I am going to buy the rotavirus needle as well. I am taking her to get weighed tomorrow so I will let you girls know how she goes. i also have my six week appointment with the OB tomorrow eventhough it has been nine weeks but that is the only time they could get me in. DS is back at daycar tomorrow and I cant wait i know that sounds terrible but he has been a terror the last few days.

Well girls off to bed talk soon

Alybel- maybe the rotavirus vaccine was the third one. Haven't heard of that one either, what is it?

Bilbymum- we went out to a friends house for dinner.....not too thrilling either as I was sooo tired.
In regards to going out with bubs, have you gone out for a walk? I find walking is the best medicine and have gone out for a walk nearly everyday since I got home from hospital. Although I foolishly went out on a 7km walk nine days after the c-sect which made me a bit crook and probably brought on the mastitis. I still get the shivers when I think of the fever I got.

just for everyones information the rotavirus vaccine is a liquid oral vaccine (taken by mouth), it is needed at 2 months and at 4 months, so each one costs $105. We got a $50 refund from our health fund though (mbf)..
