Hey all,

I realise that it is useless to compare babies as they will all do things at their own pace but I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help me with Ry.

He is 7 months old now trying really hard to crawl, he gets his legs up underneath him in the right position but he hasnt realised yet that he needs to lift his head up and support himeslf on his arms, and actually use his arms to help him crawl. He tries to push himself along head down, bum up, which obviously doesnt work and he gets soooo frustrated and cranky that all he does is cry. When he is on his tummy he doesnt push himself up with his hands, just rests on his forearms, he doesnt pivot around either.

Is there anything I can do to help him to realise that he has arms and that he needs to use them in order to move???

Any advice at all is appreciated!

The only thing I can think of is to crawl around on the floor in front of him, or try and get him up on his hands.

He will get there eventually though. :)

I have crawled around in front of him a couple of times.

First time he laughed!
Second time he ignored me

Maybe if I keep doing it he will want to copy?

DS did that for about 2 weeks before starting to go up on his arms, now he just has to figure out moving his arms without head butting the floor and he'll be unstoppable.
DF crawls around on the floor to demonstrate and he gets giggles, but no copying yet.

The other thing I've heard is to put a rolled up towel under his chest so that he is in the correct position and he will get the feel for it and can kinda practice whilst supported. You could also use a towel like a sling, under his chest/arms and hold the ends to raise him up to his arms for a few moments at a time.

He's probably just developed more strength in his lower body than his upper body for now so once his upper strength has caught up he'll get it all together. There's alot for them to put together!!

My baby constantly does the head down bum up stance and looks like she is about to do a somersault. It's very cute :D

I was told that this was part of them strengthening their arm and leg muscles.

I often put a toy just out of her reach and she would stretch out to reach it and kick her back legs to get to it... she now does the seal crawl and moves around pretty well

Oh, my DD is opposite, she uses her arms, and get her bum up, but her legs just slide down... or she tries to move her arms and legs at the same time and ends up crashing on her tummy!

but no advice sorry...
