Ella is allergic to mozzies. She gets terrible big welts from them. One time it was so big people were asking me 'how did she burn herself' . Any way I am wondering if anyone knows of a product I can use on her skin to either stop the mozzies biting her or reduce the swelling?
Cheers :o
OH, i have to find out about that clicker thing i told you about!
Poor Ella :(

I haven't found much that works. Both my girls get the same as Ella, and Mackenzie is nearly 3 1/2.....hopefully they'll grow out of it in time. Looks horrible doesn't it! I often wonder what people think when they're covered in giant spots!
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

My DD1 has the same reactions. To reduce swelling put an Anti- inflammatory gel on it. We use Hexal Gel or there is Voltaren (from Chemist).
Also as soon as we notice i give her a dose of Phenergan, which stops her itching a helps reaction.
To prevent we either lather in sunscreen OR we bought from a health food shop Repellant called Natralia (sp), there are other brands too.
They do not contain DEET which is dangerous for kids.
Good Luck, Oh at night i have a mozzie plug in.
Funny thing is DD2 has never got bitten in all her 17 months of being around.
Awwww poor Ella:crying:
I dont know if it would help, but Bepanthen worked really well on DS when he got bitten by midgies. They came up looking like blisters too.
My only other advice would be the chemist, they should be able to help.

Ohh, BEWARE chemist.
I first went there and they gave me a repellent called Bushman something.
It has lots of DEET in it too.
Go to a health food shop, they are very good and have safe ones for children...

My son is always one to get eaten alive by mozzie's. My dad told me of an old bushmans repellant of equal parts baby oil and dettol.. This works an absolute treat. In QLD we get heaps of midgies too and works for them and mozzies
I just mix it up in a bottle so is ready to go.. but having baby oil in it - make sure it's away from little hands..ever since I saw that Opera episode on a child who drank baby oil and died due to his lungs collapsing..well baby oil freaks me out now

Oh yes!! I saw that one too so sad!!
thanks I might try this.
Cobey has these, I took him to the pharmasist to be looked at (I kinda thought they were mozzie bits and didn't want o drag him to the doctors just for that)
HIGA, who's a medical receptionist, told me to use plain ol' sorobline cream :)

Can my DS please join this line as well? Last time he was bitten he ended up at hospital and on some antibiotics. We are off to see the allergist next month.
As soon as he is bitten he gets a dose of Zyrtec or Claratyne, and then for a least the next day or two. We use Sigmacort cream which stops the itching.
I bought some Badger Anti-Bug Balm which is all natural - mainly made out of citronella oil. I got it of some online baby shop. Smells bewwdiful.
Hydrocortisone cream (Cortic is available over the counter and suitable for babies) works wonders. I'm allergic to mosquito bites too to the extent that it actually hurts when they first bite - I am woken from sleep with the pain. After that they form almost a blister and then a bump the size of a golf ball. It'll all very annoying, sore and itchy. Cortic really helps with the initial pain and also makes the final bump not so big.
I always put an ice pack on bites to get the swelling down and it seems to take the sting out then I use paw paw ointment or stop itch.
Both my kids are allergic to mozzies aswell , come up in huge welts
I swear by Nutri rich oil from Nutrimetics
works every time !!

A friend told me she uses the NutriClear it works to take the swelling out and repels mozzies.
My DD is allergic and a neighbour recently put evevning primrose oil on her bites...it worked like magic!
Tea tree oil is good too.

Don't get a shock when you see how little the tin is. A little seems to go a long way.
Don't know about the suitability for children however for any adults suffering similar nasty symptoms from mozzie bites I have heard from quite a few people that Rectinol HC (extra strength) works extremely well!!

Another mozzie sweller here. DS also has mild reactions, though his don't seem to be quite as bad as mine.
The antihistamine initially is the way to go. Pawpaw ointment is good, also Soov which you get from the chemist.
If it's really severe see your GP for a script for Advantan (or similar). This is a miracle cream that I originally got for mozzie bites, and my GP has since told us of a whole list of things it is good for so we always have a tube on hand.
