I don't know if this has happened to anyone, but with my first I dd I felt a lot during the procedure.

I got anesthesia but when the intervention began I felt like they were burning my skin, when they were cutting to get my DD out. It was horrible. I told them and they just said that it was not true and that I was too nervious. They gave me meds to relax and I was so dizzy I barely listened to what they were saying but still feeling pain. Not pain like if I had no anesthesia but like it was not enough.

I don't know if when you are nervious that can happen but I was also so cold, freezing in the operation room. It was a total torture. I said to myself that I wont have kids again, but I'm almost 6 month p/g and feel scared when I think about it.

Anyone else??? What do you think? I've heard that some people have problem with anesthesia and that sometimes they need more than the usual.

OR rooms are kept to a certain temp usually 18C to keep bugs at bay so yes it's cold + the epi makes you feel cold! I had pain when they were stitching me up, they said the same as you no you can't.... I was screaming I can feel it stop, it stop the pain and they gave me something it was as werid pain looking back like it hurt but it was painful ugh can't describe it, but I don't want it ever again, but then I never ever want a c/section again either!
Are you going to try for a VBAC or will you have another c/section :hugs::hugs:

Actually I haven't talked about it with my OB, but at the same time I feel scared about giving birth b/c people say it's also so painful. So at this point I don't know what I want. I was thinking to talk to an anesthesist to see what they say about my experience and if I can have a better one this time if I need a c/section again.

I got the shakes too, I remember feeling like I was in a fridge and I was terrified, they kept telling me to stop shaking so much!!
I had to have more anaesthetic than they'd normally give, though I don't think they really believed me when I said I could still feel the ice (they rubbed ice on my skin to test if I was numb). I can't say I felt pain with the incision, but I could definitely feel it happening. The only bit that hurt was when they had to push down on the top of my "bump" to help DD out, the epi didn't numb that far up.

I understand you fear! I had an emergency caesar and was planning an all natural birth so from my point of view I wanted to experience that pain/empowerment etc and then my DD was coming face first which they call brow presentation so there was no way I could of birthed hr naturally.

Remember it either way you have a baby will have it's implications and it will hurt which ever way. I know I hoped to have a VBAC next time I didn't like my C/section experience at all but who knows I may need another one for what ever reason if so I will deal with that and prepare for it. But yes talk it over with you OB and also talk to another DR/midwife get a good outlook on it and just be happy with your choice that's number one do what you want!

This happened to my SIL for her 2nd C/S and my BIL at one stage just was really firm with them saying - 'Look, she is crying in pain - she is not imagining it!!'.
This made her really nervous when she went in for her 3rd, but the third was fine.
When I had my c/s I just felt the pressure - and when they were stitching me up I REALLY felt the tugging.
I agree that you should let them know what happened last time - discuss your fears with them and get them to assure you that if you say you are in pain they believe you! It's disgusting that they didn't the first time!

I was freezing as well - I was shivering in recovery and they just kept putting blanket on me. It's not just the temp in the room, but also that fact that your body does go into shock due to blood loss. Again though - in recovery just tell them to bring on more heated blankets and if you need to, you tell them every step of the way how you are feeling! After all - they are getting paid for this so you make them do their job properly!

Good luck - I totally understand your fears and I hope that this experience whichever way you choose is better then the first.

I had a similar problem with my first c/section. The anesthetic wore off during the operation and I felt everything! It was bloody awful. Afterwards the thought of another c/s terrified me. I could almost feel the pain again.
Ive just recently (4 weeks ago) had my second baby by c/section, and it was nothing like the first time. I felt nothing. I barely even felt the tugging while they did it. Have some hope, even though your first one was awful, doesnt mean your second will be too. :hugs:

I thought I could begin to feel more than pressure (ie: the start of pain) as they were stitching me up, but I wasn't 100% sure at first (got much more certain of it toward the end!), so I didn't say anything & just hoped they would hurry up & finish!

I was just about to say something when they announced they were finished, so I didn't need to mention it in the end, but I regained feeling in my legs very, very quickly in recovery!

Also in recovery I was extremely cold & they had to keep piling heated blankets on top of me!

My friend went through a similar experience and she found it extremely traumatic. She is also expecting in a few weeks and is very nervous.
I tried for an epi in my first labour and two of them didn't work at all for me (apparently 1 not working happens for 10% and 2 not working in 3% of people) so should I have to have a c/s in the future I will have to have a general.
Good luck for this time.

I had an emergency c-section after labour with my twins- and had pain as they were cutting me open- as the epidural was still kicking in.....which was kind of my fault as after labouring all night I misunderstood the ice thing- no- it's not freezing- (it's still cold though) - anyway- I nearly got put under but begged not to be- and I'm not sure what happened but they must have waited for the epi to kick in and then proceed with the operation.

I also felt a very uncomfy during the procedure- lots of pressure and yanking about- hard to get a jammed in twin out- the second one was easy! He just slipped out!!!

Sorry you had such an awful experience. I hope you have a caring OB who is able to give you good information about what ever way you choose to give birth!

Hi

I didnt have an epi with my c section I had a spinal block as they were nervous about getting the epi needle between my spine as Im short. I havent heard of problems with spinal blocks like some people have with the epi. I wouldve liked to be knocked out but they wouldnt have allowed my hubby to stay if we did that. Maybe ask your OB his opinion on the different pain options....
Good luck

I didn't experience pain during my c-section, but I was rather "high." I don't know if I was given any drugs to make me that way (I was kinda freaking out when they were putting all the needles into me...), or if it was just the spinal. I also got very shakey and VERY sweaty during hte whole thing. I was actually very HOT, not cold at all. (They kept putting ice on my forehead because I kept demanding it).

I did, however, have a minor operation on my toe years back... and the anesthesia didn't work. They were supposed to give me three needles and then do the op... but they ended up giving me FIVE needles. Even then, I could feel the pain, but I was so high that I didn't tell them. I just went kinda nuts - I would bawl my eyes out, then laugh hysterically. It was really scary for my mother to see - I went NUTS. The anesthesia wore off really quickly too - they told me it would wear off in about an hour... but it wore off in a matter of minutes. I cried the whole way home and even after that.

Obviously, my toe is no comparison to a c-sec... but maybe our bodies are becomming immune to drugs? I mean, there must be some reason why so many people can FEEL the PAIN during an operation...?

I had an emergency c-sec done. The epidural made me shiver. The midwives made sure I was kept warm with warm blankets. I was also feeling ill all the way to the theater. I did have a fantastic Anesthetist though. She was talking to me throughout the procedure to make sure I was not feeling ill or feeling any pain. Did not feel a thing. Only a little pressure then they were pushing DS out. But they told me I was going to feel that before they did it.

Think I would have been really really upset if I had felt any pain during the procedure which inturn would have made DH step in and made sure something was done about it.

Sorry you had such a horrible experience.

felt heaps of pain with my c/s!!!! afterwards the anethetist(sp?) told me it was because he was unable to put the spinal block in (he tried about 5 times he must have been hitting a nerve because my leg kept flying up) so he used an epi. which is why he said i experienced so much pain....i could feel and move my legs through the whole procedure (i made sure i kept wriggling my toes so they would know but none of the doc.s seemed to worried:eek: )

it's looks like i may need another c/s with this bubby and i've requested a general....

I had an epi with my first c/section (emergency) - the pain of the epidural was the most horrific thing I've ever experience in my life. I was having contractions with the anaesthetist pushing my body forward like some sort of contortionist...it was hell! I too shivered from the epi but couldn't feel anything except for the tugging and pressure.
With my second c/section (elective) I was given a spinal block - I felt the burning/tearing and screamed in pain. No one debated it with me and I was immediately put under a general anaesthetic because of this.
I then suffered from a spinal headache a couple of days after and had to go back to theatre to have blood that was taken out of my arm injected into my spine to get rid of the air pockets (the cause of the spinal headache).
Next time...VBA2C!!!! NOTHING is EVER getting near my spine again!!!

I had a spinal block and felt nothing at all. I was scared I was going to feel the cutting and freaked out a bit thinking about it so they gave me drugs which made me feel drunk.

I had no pain with either of my c/secs, just the shakes, dizzyness and nausea with the epi during my 2nd c/sec. Hated that epi.

The spinal block worked best for me, and I was euphoric when recieving my new bubs.

Talk to your Ob about your fears, and tell him/her you have heard from many women who have felt pain during their c/secs, and that you want to make it imperitive, to the sacredness and celebration of your bubs entry into this world, that the painkillers they are using are applied to you correctly, so your new bubs has a euphoric mamma to greet them when he/she comes out!
