You poor thing, i remember how bad it was. Have you tried using some antacids, just make sure they are ok for pg? Also i used to drink a lot of milk which seemed to work for a little while. Really there isnt much you can do, unfortunately. Its one of the down sides to being pg. Sorry i cant help you very much, its just that there really isnt very many options to fix the prob. Hopefully some of the other girls might be able to help you better.

hi charli
i had heartburn SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad during my pregnancy from 25 weeks on, right until the last minute (even during labour!!! yay! :D )

i chewed A LOT of Reni tablets while preggers as that is what my GP recommended. They worked pretty well. Milk was another good one, but basically it never went away completely and would wake me up in the middle of the night. AuuuggghhhhH!!!

The minute that baby is out and no longer pushing on your stomach, the heartburn is GONE! YayyyyyyyyYY!!!!!! That's the only "cure"!

All the best...
rachel

I used Tums tablets and gaviscon while I was pregnant... They worked very well. :)

Hi

I found that I was drinking up to 2 litres of flavoured milk between 20 and 29 weeks until I finally got the doctor to prescribe one ranitidine tablet each evening and I finally got to sleep in my bed again (had been sleeping propped up on the couch) and no longer needed to try and tame the fire!

Try talking to your doc ... some things really need to be done as a happy and comfortable Mum is important for your little ones welfare. Ranitidine has no ill effects in pregnancy, in fact, it is the drug that they give to prep you for a c/section to calm your stomach acids down.

I found it to be an absolute godsend ... it meant no more having to avoid foods that had previously upset my stomach (like tomatoes) and I finally started sleeping again at night.

Thanks heaps to all of you!! I have also tried steering clear of orange juice and tomatoes.. pasta sauces.. I did not know milk would help! Thanks I will give that a go. I think if it gets worse (although its quite bad now) I will take myself to the Dr. Its funny I feel as though I need to eat when the burning gets worse and then it helps for a minute and comes back with a vengance!
Thanks all again..

I have a herbal book for pregnancy, and it suggested eating raw almonds.

I am pleased to report that it seems to work better than most antacids.

If I do use an antacid, I use Tums.

Gaviscon makes me gag and vomit due to the consistancy, so I avoid it completely.

Oh, the other thing is that heartburn is an awesome excuse to have an icecream before bed!

I can totally relate to what you are going through. I am 30 weeks too and the heartburn is the worst thing....I wake up with it. Yeah and I still feel hungry while I have it. The worst thing is the awful reflux which sometimes makes me think I"m going to be sick. Its worse when I eat rich foods...especially spicy Indian (and I"m married to an indian and practically ate it every night before...taklk about drastic diet changes!)
I've been drinking ginger ale, which I just starting doing because I used to have it when I was a kid with an upset stomach. It seems to help but I dont know if it is a proven remedy or whether I should actually be drinking softdrinks....just it makes me feel better.

I had the worst heartburn from day one which only got worse the bigger i got  I just lived on tums! you can eat up to 16 per day and they taste just like oranges. and believe me i was eating 16 every 24 hours! Also try and drink lots of water and sleep proped up in bed. One other thing......try not to be too physical after eating! im sure thats not really an issue! lol

Good luck :) it will all be over soon enough
