How will the new IR reforms proposed by the Howard government affect single mothers?
What are the struggles that single mother face today and how will the IR reforms make things worse?
I think an easier question to answer would be how will they make things better?! I can't think of any way that the proposed changes will assist working (or stay at home) mothers - unless of course you're of the minority who operate your own business.
Let's see the morons in Canberra making these decisions - the people we elect - start living in the real world - join those of us with average incomes, mortages and household bills to pay, hecs debts, doctors fees and who value the little time we get to spend with our families.
I don't think single mothers are in a boat of their own with the new industrial relations reforms. I am married with two tots, my hubby works in the building industry and I'm a sahm, we are in for a massive shock if these reforms take effect.
My hubby is going to lose (and even though the government ads say that you want lose anything that you have previously gained - it is a load of c***) his overtime, his travel and meal allowance, shorter meal breaks, his bert contribution (money set aside in case he is put off/injured etc) need I go on. If all this happens, it means that we will be $150 short each week and we can't even live off what he now earns. We are just scraping through to pay off the mortgage and living expenses, without adding anything else to the weekly expenses.
I know that if these reforms take place, I will have to go back to work. I am a teacher, but I don't want to leave my babies to see other peoples kids all day long. I want to be home with my kids in these important years. Then on top of that I will have to pay for child care (makes me sick) and we still won't be any better off than we are, with me working. AND THAT MAKES ME EVEN MADDER!
I only have one thing to say...........John Howard and the Australian Government, are in it for themselves and every other high paid person in this country. He is all about racking in the billion dollar excesses and has no compassion or consideration for us day by day battlers. John Howard makes me sick to my stomach! It would be nice if he had a heart...........and cared for the Australian people as much as he does our cricket team. B******!
