Hi all,

A very dear friend of mine cant have children(they've tried everything except adoption and surrogacy). A mutual friend of ours is considering becoming a surrogate for her and her hubby. I dont know much about surrogacy and am interested to find out more about it in order to support both my friends choices.

Before I got pregnant I didnt really think the whole surrogacy thing was a good idea, I couldnt fathom the thought of carry around someone elses bub for 9 months then giving the bub away.

However after having a baby myself I have come to think it is possible for some very special women to be great surrogate mothers.I personally couldnt do it, but I do actually think this friend of ours would make a good surrogate mum; and there is no one I'd rather see have a baby then this friend of mine and her hubby they are the most amazing people I've ever met.

What do you all think about surrogacy? and if you have any info I'd appreciate that too :) Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am not positive but I believe the only place in Australia to allow surrogacy is the N.T. and there are strict rules around it.
I also have a friend who cannot have children and always said if it was possible to have a baby for her I would do it. It would need to be her egg and her husbands sperm and I carry the baby. This is no longer and option as I am pregnant with No. 6 and struggling anyway. There is so much to think of. I believe there is a place for it in certain circumstances but it is so risky. The only person I would have ever done it for was my friend and we have been best friends for 20 years now.
I hope you find the information you are looking for.

Not so long ago I saw a TV program from Lifestyle Channel about this. This woman was actually getting paid for it and had surrogate around 7-8 children. Bless her as clearly she’s helping others, but there’s no way I could do it.

I found this site for you: Surrogacy Issues (from vic.gov.au) (http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Surrogacy_the_issues?open)
