I am taking my 3 month old baby on a flight from Brisbane to Cairns. What can I do to make the flight easier for him (and me!) - e.g. panadol, giving a bottle. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi there - there are a few threads that have discussed this that you might find useful - I, afraid the only one I can find at the moment is

Like lucyp, there are heaps of info on "baby & travel", you could click on "search" button and type the words.

We flew with Thomas many times since he was around that age. It shouldn't be too difficult as its only short flight, Thomas slept at every flights. Hopefully your bub will too :D

We fly again this November. This should be interesting because Thomas is much older and much wrigley these days lol

I did search for you btw, Hubbub's Subject: Travel & Baby (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/search.php?searchid=145309)

Good luck and happy travel :)

I dont want to sound nasty: But please dont drug your babies because your on a plane. It isnt an illness. Yes....you might have to work a little harder because of the confinement..but there really isnt a need for panadol especially for a little baby...leave that one for the true ills.

Hear hear O's Mum! Dont you want them to enjoy the flights?

The reason they might cry:

* airport is noisy, not a very friendly enviroment for bubs for sure
* for domestic flight the sound of the engine can be so loud, so once again not a very friendly envi for bub

The remedy: lots of cuddles and kisses...

I took panadol with me on a flight to Europe. The dr recommended just incase we had problems with his ears or he got a temp (we were travelling for 24 hours). For us it was not necessary at all.
I found the best thing for us was bf or even a dummy if you use one. On a flight that short and with a little baby I wouldn't stress too much. Your bub will probably love all the cuddles :) .

Have a great day!

You can purchase something called "Earplanes" from a chemist which are supposed to help stabilise the ear, so bubs doesn't get the horrible "ear pop" pain... I don't know of anyone who has used them on a baby, but a friend used them for her 2 1/2 year old - with great success...

Cheers!

** Note - just did a web search - the kiddies ones are only for 1-11 year olds - sorry!**

I flew with my six month old daughter a short 1.5 hour flight and the only thing i can recommend is that you feed your bub on takeoff and landing to help the ears adjust and pop so they don't hurt. We had a stopover in our flight so there were 2 takeoffs and 2 landings and for one of the landings, she cried non-stop for about 15 minutes (assumed her ears were hurting). From then on we fed her or gave her a dummy and no problems.

Have a fantastic trip away.
