View Full Version : What are your reasons??
I am curious as to bubhubbers reasons for using cloth nappies. For me, it is because they are better for the environment, followed by cost, then health, then cuteness!
So, complete the poll and tell us your reasons!!
I chose 'other' because it wasn't one single factor on it's own - it was all of them !
We use cloth for a few different reasons but in the end I picked that we chose cloth for the health etc of the baby - Ozzy is allergic to most disposables and it really flares up his skin so that is mainly our reason - however we would have used cloth on him even if he wasn't allergic;)

I wanted to say all of the above but to pick one it had to be environment. Funny- I would have said cost a short while ago and still know it will be far cheaper in the long run BUT...
I am learning how dangerous a clucky mother to be with a credit card and a host of oh-so-cute fitted cloth websites can be;)

Environment
well i picked the enviroment option, but would have ticked all, if it would have been a multiple poll....
I picked because they are cute!!
Although since using them we have saved heaps on disposables, so i guess cost is a big factor too.

Ditto, but I ticked health. Disposables have given all my children a skin issue, even if the disposable is on them for a short time dry/unsoiled. I use them strictly when I have no other option - trips away with no washing facilities.
Honestly, I can't understand how people get away with just chucking disposables in the bin, faeces and all, even though it is actually illegal. At least using cloth, the poo gets flushed away rather than ending up in land fill.
The nappies I am using have done all 3 of my children - not bad for 4 dozen I bought at about $30 per dozen, plus a dozen hand-me-downs. Not expensive, not difficult to do - there is no reasons NOT to use cloth IMO.

Because they are cute :D and better for the enviroment of course.
I chose health...but like others have said its a combination of everything and my status on the whole cloth issue has changed dramatically since first delving into the cloth world!
At first it was for health DD has ezcema ....then I saw how much money I was going to save, then I got onto the whole environmental bandwagon and my husband thinks I am now turning into some reborn hippie...I'm changing over all my cleaning products now..eeekkkk! I don't actually know what on earth is wrong with me!
Cost is a big factor for us - we have 2 in fulltime nappies and one in nappies of a night. We would go through HEAPS of disposables otherwise!!!
The number one factor for me was the environment. I didn't want to be contributing to the downfall of our Mother Earth.
That's closely followed by cost. With not much money to spare, I couldn't imagine having to purchase disgustables each week:eek:
Health would probably come next, that's kind of tide in with environmental factors I think. What the nappies are made from contributes to bubs health, aswell as what you choose to wash them with - which in turn effects the environment.
Cuteness, well that's just an added bonus. I really couldn't care what they looked like to be honest. BB's are easy to use, and if they were ugly I'd still use them.
Like Aardvark said, on an environmental issue, I too can't get over how sposie uses can just chuck their pooey nappies in the bin and get away with it, it's a major health hazard.
Ppl often talk about how much water is used to wash nappies, but what about the billions of litres of water used in the manufacturing of disgustables?
And, like my siggie says - "Make Laundry Not War";)
Love that line Gremily in your sig!
I voted other as in all of he above. Hubby complains about the cost of everything, I m concerned about the environment and health is a concern also. Cuteness is an added bonus. Now it is an addiction :0
It was partly cost but mostly as we live so far from any shops I'd hate to run out or drive an hour and a half just to get some nappies.
The other reason is MC is so easy- why wouldn't you?

I would say cost and environment.
It says heaps of money and cuts down my pile on landfill.
I know - I wanted to vote everything too - (and I made the poll!!) but I was curious as to the main reason we all do it!!!
I should have put addiction in the poll, lol!!

Hi All:wave:
I voted "other" because I could not choose which reason would come first in my mind! Cuteness would be last in line though (like gremily!) it is just an added bonus!
I love that we are not throwing away piles of nappies every week, I love that it is a way of taking a stand against throw-away society, I love that my daughter no longer gets nasty rashes from disgustables & I love the way they feel- DD feels all wrong in a disgustable! No bum at all:eek: The money saved is great too- the money saved is going towards organic groceries & a small donation to greenfleet with it every week to make us carbon neutural! (How much of a hippie am I becoming:rolleyes: )
Huzzah for Cloth & down with disposables!:wizard:

Well I started using cloth on Ella because we were spending $120 per month on sposies between the 2 kids. So that is our main reason. It wasn't until after I switched I heard about the whole 500 years to decompose etc! So now I am glad we have switched, we are doing our bit for the environment aswell. :)
Oh and they are tooooo cute!:p
All of the above, plus they work better (far less leaks, adjustable absorbency), they're convenient, and I can support Australian WAHMs.
Not to mention being part of the wonderful Australian cloth community.

Environment first for sure but all of the other options are important as well.
