Hi All
I just wanted to start a thread for all the mums-to-be out there who are having elective c/sections for whatever reason that was a bit more positive.
Please don't anyone get me wrong - yes there are risks and I am not trying to hide that - but it would be great if we could just leave this thread positive as going into surgery can be pretty scary so it is nice to have some reassurance.
I had a c-section in Feb for the birth of my DS and this is how it all went.
Everyone in the room with me were positive, reassuring and helped me stay calm. I got sick from the epi, but this was quickly fixed.
My gorgeous boy was born within 15 mins of me going in and suddenly I was face to face with the little man I had been dreaming of meeting for the last 8 and a half months. I straight away got to have a cuddle and some contact and we named him and then my DH went with the paed and my DS while I was stitched up.
I was wheeled into recovery and sitting there waiting for me was the proudest looking Daddy and my little boy - it is a beautiful picture that will always stay in my mind and my heart. The midwife gave him to me and encouraged me to try and bf which I did and this little munchkin latched on straight away.
My recovery was excellent - while I moved around the next day I took it easy each day - making myself move around and regularly taking panadol to help with any pain.
I bonded with my little man straight away and I have absolutely no regrets with the way it all happened.
I know not everyone is lucky enough to have this sort of experience, but I just wanted those out there who know they are having a c/section that there are wonderful and positive stories to c/section births and I sincerely hope that yours is as positive as mine.
After reading some stories on here though I would encorage women to still have a birth plan that includes bubs being placed on your chest straight away and staying with you in recovery!! I was very fortunate that this is the way it went for me and until reading others stories had no idea that so many others were not given this opportunity.
