I have about 25 nappies, and wash every day/other day with a newborn. I have 3 pul covers and 2 wool covers.

ditto... its a little $$ but, well worth it I reckon! Newborns go through a lot of nappies! But, later, you will have a large rotation, which will preserve the nappies beter iykwim... and won't have to wash as much, and you can sell them!

Seeing as you're not due for a bit, you could look at paying of a bulk pack with Davina's layby system. It's not like you need the nappies immediately!! Unless you've got the money straight away, I found it made purchasing a bulk pack alot easier.

24 nappies is a good start. You could always get a few more, once bub arrives, and you get into a routine. If bub is a major poo'er or has lots of wet nappies, then you might find you need some more.

I only got BB's when dd2 was 9 mths so she doesn't wet through as quite as a newborn. I have 18 nappies and wash every 2nd day. I could probably do with maybe 2 or so more, just to make it a little bit easier.

Do you know whether you're going to get hemp, bamboo or a mix of both?

As for covers, I have 4 that I rotate. One on bub, one in the wash, the others airing. Being off white they tend to get a bit dirty with a crawling bub, so I usually chuck one in to wash with the nappies every 2nd wash. With a newborn you won't have that trouble, so they'd last a lot longer without a wash.

Wool covers - you'd need at least 2, and swap each night. I have 2 BB wool wraps, but also 2 wool soakers (from Possum Pouches, and Sustainable Hemp Products). The wool covers last longer at night than the PUL. Once a nappy is quite saturated the PUL edges tend to get a bit wet.

Also, if you get a bulk pack, Davina also add liners and boosters/foldup. Actually, with every order I've made with her she's always added a hemp or bamboo folup for free. This is what you'd use for night time. Makes the nappy last longer, meaning you don't have to change during the night.

I've got flannelette flats, and my recommendation is enough to fill your washing machine to capacity (including face washers for wipes in my case), and still enough over and above that to get through one full day.

For me, with a 7kg front loader, that is 5 dozen flat nappies - 4 dozen or so fit in the machine at once, and then I have enough for another day on top of that.

I only need to wash nappies every 4-5 days.

Some great advice! I agree a 24 pack to start and 2 wool covers for night and PUL for the day (2-4). Newborns can go through a lot of changes in the early weeks.

Hi Gremily!! Hope your BIL is feeeling better!:hugs:

I was going to get Bamboo, the bulk pack of 24 nappies, 6 PUL covers and 6 boosters(bamboo) & 2 FREE packs of Microfleece Nappy Liners! What a mouthful!

But if I need more I may go broke lol - the lay-by op sounds fantatsic.:yelclap:

While I love the bamboo - I reckon you should get at least some of them hemp - esp for yucky nappy drying weather!

Hi Caithi! I won't hijack the thread, but BIL is doing great. I'll do another update in the next couple of days.
Davina does do 1/2 and 1/2 packages. When you choose which package you want there's an option as to what you want - either all hemp, all bamboo, or 1/2 and 1/2.
I'd recommend getting the 1/2 n 1/2 package. Like Ikis84 mentioned bamboo does take awhile to dry. BUT, it's ohhhhh sooooo soft! The advantage of the hemp is they dry a bit faster, but they're also slightly less bulky, so they're great if you want bub's in a pair of jeans.

Yep.. pretty trim, but I think the bamboo seem a little smaller than the hemp - so the opposite to what gremily said, lol!!

Ikis84, maybe it's to do with the size of ours bubs that makes the nappies seem bulkier, etc iykwim:D .
I tend to use the bamboo at night, so I also have a booster inside, which adds to the bulkiness.
But, during the day I find I always have to do the hemp up a bit tighter than if I use a bamboo during the day.
Caithi - you're going to be itching to use the BB's! Having them sitting there, all washed and ready, waiting.......waiting......waiting!
