2 wk old already going 7hrs between feeds overnight?

Hi there

My dd2 is 15 days old and for the past few days has been feeding at around 9pm at night and then not waking til around 4am for her next feed. This of course has been bliss for my sleeping patterns :yelclap:, however i'm a little concerned that it may be a bit long between feeds for a two week old??

During the day she feeds every 3-4 hrs - and sometimes more frequently. I have tried to wake her after 4-5 hours overnight to feed, but to no avail - she doesn't seem to want to feed even after a nappy change.

Am i doing the right thing??

Hi Sophs mum,

It does sound as though your baby is sleeping very well - and perhaps longer than expected for a two week old, but LUCKY you! If she feeds frequently during the day, is doing all her sucking at the breast ( no dummies or finger sucking) and doesnt want to feed during the night, this must be the right pattern for her right now, especially if she is having plenty of wet nappies and is gaining weight.

If you are concerned, you could try offering her a feed while she is sleeping, some babies suck in their sleep without waking; alternatively, you could offer cluster feeds in the evening before shr goes to bed; or express perhaps late at night to stimulate your milk supply.
