I can remember some of you saying that you are going for an early ultrasound, but I can't exactly remember and I am too lazy to go back through the other thread :p
So who is going for a early ultrasound (and if you want to why?:D )
Me: Well I have one on Thursday(16/11/06), my cycles have always been long, and with my last two pregnancies my due date as always been a week after the lmp date. So its just a date scan, but I have a feeling they will ask me back, I don't know if they will see the heart beat espically if I am only 6 weeks on Thursday.

I'm not sure if it is an early scan, my u/s is at 9 weeks on the 24th/Nov.
I just want to see that every thing is ok, oh and I also kinda debated my EDD...
Can't wait to see everything is ok

Usually there is one at 12 wks and then one at 18 - 20 wks. I have always had and early one, and because I was so small I had extra towards the end with both as well.

Very very normal, I feel the same! Its exciting but nerve racking too, I stress out a heap the day before!! So don't worry there are lots of women feeling the same, we can be nervous and excited together  :D

My Gp has actually told me to go next week.. This is a first as most OBS tell you to wait around 12 weeks. with DD I was 9 wks and they could find the bub so they did an internal. I bled for a bit so I refuse all internals! So I will book in for next week but ask if they need to do internal!!

I have an early scan on Dec 4th, to check dates.
I'm so excited, i can't wait to see the little tadpole, and get some first piccies!
By then i should be approx 8 weeks, so i should be able to see the heart beat too!

Has anyone else had any issues with internal u/s causing bleeding and other stuff?? Are they bad for the baby
jkate
15-11-2006, 03:18 PM
I have only had one internal and that was for DS1 and during the last week of my pregnancy - and there wasn't any bleeding. I don't think it is bad for the baby, if they talk about doing one just state your concerns to the ultrasound person (whats their official title :o )

Well my first scan is on the 6/12 and I will be 9 weeks. Then I will have a scan every 4 weeks until bubs is born with the important ones being at 12 and 19 weeks.
lavenderpegasus - I had internal u/s with my last pregnancy, and other than being a bit uncomfortable I had no bleeding . And in no way is it harmful to bubs - just gets a better pic early in pregnancy

I'm having a dating scan next week. I really just want to see the heartbeat so I am sure the baby is there.
I have also booked my 18 week scan and I'm having a 4D one so we can be sure of the sex. Can't wait for that one :smiliedance:
I'm having an u/s at my first ob appointment, which should be at 10 weeks, but I have a feeling it's really only 9 weeks, as I have a 5 week cycle. Very excited though!

Hi all:wave:
I have my u/s next week on the 29th......am very excited as i will finally get an EDD as i have no idea when i am due!!!! I too am worried that there is more than one in there as i am already showing .....ahahaha at approx 7 or maybe 6 weeks!!!!
WIll then be able to tell you all what my EDD is and get a feel of all the other things i then need to do. I also will have another scan when i go and see my OB on 21st Dec.
I had several internals with my last preganancy and am anxious about having others as i don't know but felt like they made me bleed more or maybe they just helped the MC along, who knows but trust they are safe, would just rather not have one as they are very uncomfortable.

Maybe tell your doctor katyjoy76 that you don't really want one (an internal) - see what he/she says????
I am thinking about getting a 3D/4D ultrasound done this time, but I don't want to know what sex the baby is. Are they very clear??? Will I be able to see what sex bub is?

Im having an u/s next thurs (30/11) to confirm my EDD. Atm Im still a little unsure but think it's around the 17 July 07. I also need a better idea as the OB I want to see only takes a few new clients every week (when ur 12weeks along). Last preg I booked in with him when I was 8weeks but want to get in a little earlier this time.

Katjoy - if your not confortable, tell them you don't want one done, just go back at a later date. No point stressing about it hun.
My scan is the same day as yours Steph, you getting exctied yet?? I am, the countdown is on!:smiliedance:

I'm expecting that my obs will tell me to have an u/s at my appointment on Tuesday (4.15pm...and yes I am counting down the hours..and minutes...) because I'm not sure on the dates at all. I never had a period after I stopped breastfeeding DD1 so it's almost impossible for me to guess on a date...besides when I had a negative test and when I had the positive.
I'll let you know more after the appointment though.

Just wondering if any one can help me i'm 7 1/2 weeks and the doctor said he wouldn't send me for an u/s till 18 weeks unless he thinks i need
one.
Do i need one or should i just wait and see or push to get one.
Hope someone can help as i'm a first time mummy and we haven't told any one yet so i have no one to ask!:smiliedance:

Hey there!!
I am having my second baby, last time I had a 6week scan so was disappointed this time when they said na you don't need one! So I have got a refferal for a 12 week ( nuchal translucency) scan because I am impatient and want to see bubs, but I wont be covered by medicare because I am don't fit the neccessary criteria to have it done free.
If you really want a scan then the can't say no, they can write you a referal but if you are happy waiting till 18weeks then that is ok, if you have a low risk pregnancy then your OB will not think it is neccessary to see bubs till then. Tell your OB if you want a scan though dont let him talk you around it!!
Bel Aiden goodluck for this morning look forward to seeing your piccys!!
Hey DQ - I am having a 4D scan this time I haven't booked it yet, must do that today actually but I really want one this time!! We really want to know the sex and apparently it is much clearer on those than covnetional scanners, so you might have to tell them you don't want to know the sex so you can turn away when they show his or her bits!!

meandbaby - you don't have to have a scan early, the only reason i am having one is to check my dates, as they could be a couple of weeks off.
I am also having the nuchal fold test done at 12 weeks, to check for downs and spinabifita, i am not at a risk age but i'd like to check anyway. This one costs you money, as it is not covered, but like i said i like to have it done just for peace of mind.
Maybe ask your Dr if yuo want this one done, as they only do it at 12-13 weeks i think.
Steph - we had planned on getting married on Nov 10th, but with a new bub in July, we have decided to put it off for a few years, until we can leave the kids for our honeymoon (we really want to do it kid free as we really don't get that much alone time, ikwim)
only 3 sleeps till our scans!

well just got home from work, didnt get a chance to hop on b4 i headed off after the docs. My EDD is the 23 july... so i was only few days out with my guess... my doc was very suprised to here that i was only 5 w 6d today as it means i got a positive (definate.. not ify) home preg test at 3w 3d... Didnt see much but a egg sack lol, heart beat was 120bpm.
as im in no high risk group im not getting any tests done, so my next scan will be at around the 20 week mark, cant wait to find out if we ar having a boy or a girl.
MEANDBABY with my first, my 1st scan was at 17 weeks. the only reason why i had an early one this time was because im breastfeeding and my cycles are all over the place so we didnt know how far along i was.

My DS's daycare teacher found out the sex of her baby at 12weeks!! How is that done? Im going to die waiting for my 18week ultrasound to find out!!
The OB that I'll be seeing actually does a quick ultrasound every visit. I find it reassuring!!

Hi Ladies, well I'm back!
Got to see our little jelly bean! Saw a heart beat and beginning of a spine too. I am exactly 8 weeks, so due on 12th!
Unfortunately they don't do pics at this place so i didn't get one to show you all, which is a little disapointing but oh well, at least now it feels more real to me.
I do get films though, but not till next week so if i can i will try and scan them in, not sureif it works though?
Yep, there is only one (poor DF would have fainted if there was 2!)
Hope Steph and TJ have great scans today and hopefully you will get some piccies to show us al! :yelclap:

I just got back from my ultrasound. My films will be ready in 1hour.
Only 1 baby (DF was so releived) and heart rate was normal.
I actually had an internal ultrasound (couldnt hold my bladder full!!) and the images were amazing!! I could actually see my baby (looking like a seahorse) so clearly!!
If possible I'll try and scan my films or work out some way to show u all tonight!!

Congratulations Steph!!! :smiliedance:
My first scan is on December 14 and I'll be 8 weeks. cause i will be out of the country for the 12 week scan, so having one at 8 weeks and then at 15 weeks (when I get back to Australia).
SO EXCITED!!!!! :smiliedance:
Has anyone heard that u/s are bad for bubs due to the loud vibrations/noises that go into the womb? Someone just recently told me this and said I should try and not have any u/s, I don't agree as I need to know that my baby is safe (otherwise I will have a heart attack worrying).....

Holly, very little disturbance to the bub during ultrasound, if any. Women have been having ultrasounds for yonkers, I myself have had about 30+ ultrasounds during all my pregnancies and bubs had no troubles.
Anyone heard from TJ??????
Hey chickies
Glad your scans went well jessy and steph!!
Like the 2 of you - there is only 1 bubba :smiliedance:
This wasnt my normal FS/OB so i didnt ask for a picture and he didnt offer one. Not that there was really too much to see except a sac and this little flashing grey looking thing.
He said the heart beat was good, but didnt tell me what it was.
I have another scan in 3 weeks with my normal OB and then another at 12 weeks.
So i have lots of chances to see the little bubba!
He also thinks im 6 & half weeks at the moment, so thats right in between mine and the IVF clinic's dates

YAY chickies!! Thats fantastic news! Glad all the lil bubbas are tucked away happily :D
TJ........... you must be relieved that its just one bubba!!:D Why are they so confused with dates? Mate go to this site
http://www.pregnancy.org/pregnancycalendar/
I used it to calculate my EDD from date of conception and it gave the exact same date as the FC did. You really can't go wrong with dates when you know the exact date of conception.
YAYYYY for all of you!!!!

Sorry to butt into this thread, Jkat - just wanted to let you know that we scanned pics of my sisters bubs onto the computer and printed it off, was good that we did too as those ultrasound pics dont always last forever.:)
Holly - I was watching the human version of "in the womb" on discovery the other day. They say that ultrasounds are loud and uncomfortable for a baby if the ultrasound is pointed straight into their eardrums, this is only for a baby that is quite a few months gestation and when its getting a little squishy in their mums belly, its reportedly not dangerous though.
Congradts to all you mamma's to be on growing healthy little jellybeans!!

it was very reassuring.
