I saw one ob the whole time I was there and when I gave birth I had two midwives. The only time I saw the ob while in hosp, was while I was being stitched up.
The midwife care was brilliant and I found most of the staff very helpful.

I would never go back there. My 1st labour was horrible and the midwives (bar one or two from a 6 day stay) were rude and obnoxious.
Others have said positive things, so perhaps it just depends on the day you go into labour.

I'm with Melephant.. (well not WITH with... but.. you know :p)
I went with their midwife care program and had the BEST prenatal and postnatal care. I loved my birthing experience.. I had a wonderful midwife with me the whole time, encouraging me, helping me and even giving me a hug and kiss on the forehead when I decided I'd had enough.
Wonderful care and wonderful hospital, I'll be going back!
I won't be going back to RBWH  I had a terrible time there. I guess it does depend on who you find on staff at the time you're in there, but all but 3 of the nurses I saw on the maternity ward were uncaring, rude and a couple were downright mean. I know they're busy, but there's no need to be so abrupt and so unhelpful. I only saw the OB after I had given birth, to check if I needed stitches (needed surgery actually :gloomy: )
Mind you, the 2 midwives I had during labour were lovely and very good at their jobs... it was the after-labour care that really knocked me around.
I think you'll find positive and negative stories whatever hospy you're looking at. Only you can decide if the staff team suits you - and if you're going public, I would focus on the midwife team more than the OB as they will see you the most throughout preg and birth.
Good luck, my story was a horror story, but not all of them are - there are some very positive accounts from other ladies here who gave birth at RBWH.

I had my bub at the RBWH i think because there are so many different staff there that of course you will find a mix of both good and bad.
I had days when i went in before my pregnancy and would leave the hospital questioning if i was having Blake in the right place. Some of the staff were very rude.
I only saw one ob while i was at the hospital and that was at the initial consult (thankfully didnt have stitches) so i cant really comment on that.
When i finally went into labour i had two fantastic midwives and a student in with me (poor girl) and they helped me enormously.
I had some complications after labour with loss of to much blood and all the midwives in the ward (Aside from one or two) were so egar to assist me.
I think though it sounds harsh its really the luck of the draw of course if you catch someone at the end of a long shift and a long day they arent going to be at their best. But i think that you will find this at any hospital you choose.
All the best.

i had a fantastic experience at RBWH - i did shared care with my GP & the midwives during my labour were great so were the nurses when i had an emergency csection - staff on the ward were always most helpful & i will be going back there in april for number 2:smiliedance:
thankyou for all your replies. 40 weeks today...and having an 8 pound 10 baby approx. just getting a little nervous i think.
Thanks again
