Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience that would help me. Our 1 week old little girl sleeps most of the day, however, she will wake at around 1.00am and not settle again until 7-8am.

This is our first baby and and every settling technique we try (rocking, dummy, feeding etc) doesnt seem to work.

Thanks to anyone who can help. :)

Hi Dicko,
This may sound harsh and it's not meant to be, but I'm going to say it anyway. Give your little one a chance. Think of what she has been through in the last week. She has come out of a nice, warm, safe environment to smells, sounds, sights and other changes that she is still adjusting to.

She may have her nights and days mixed up. That happened to my Dh, he would sleep during the day but wanted to be up half the night. I tried keeping him awake a little longer during the day and slowly he began to get his days and nights sorted out.

Give you little one a chance and eventually she will work it out.

Newborns are nocturnal for a while. Once their body clock settles into a rythmn all will be fine, it can just take a little while. Try and get some sleep during the day if you can.
