Also...
I wanted to make a new tradition for me and my boy to go out to look at the lights... What streets are the popular ones now days that everyone decorates their houses?

I went to a cheap shop like Crazy Clarks but in Brisbane its called Choice abd i got lights and decs and wrapping paper and name tags and sticky tap for 40 dollars
I also got my :tree: for 20 dollars at Woolies and its a 6 foot tree.
BigW has good Trees which aren't too expensive. We've got the cheapest and once decorated you wouldn't know it from the most expesive tree.
As for decorations, just keep your eye out and buy when you see something you like.

Last year, just before Christmas, I went to The Christmas Cave in Collingwood - every year (from memory it's from around the 9/10th December) they have a huge sale with 50% off everything in the store...it's fantastic - cheap cheap and not too late in December that you can't still use the decorations.

i would try the cheap discount shops crazy clarks the warehouse etc
My little family (me DS and DH) started our own little tradition to The night before christmas just before bed we all get to open 1 present that the other person gets to decided which one to open if that makes sense.....adds a little more excitment for that night.

Definately The Boulevard in Ivanhoe!!! It's huge! One of the electricity companies sponsor it but you could just google The Boulevard lights in December sometime to see when it's on - take good walking shoes because you'll have to park far away as it's so popular, but well worth it.
Radio station websites also have the streets/suburbs where you can find lights on their websites towards Christmas - Gold 104 had it last year.
