View Full Version : Help with boys name
What does everyone think of the name Garion for a boy? It's a character from a series of books that i love and i told my husband we could call our first boy that. Problem is we are now ttc and i don't like it anymore. I don't like Gary for a child and i know that's what he'll be called. I wouldn't mind it as a middle name but my husband is really upset that i've changed my mind. I'd like to hear what other people think of it, especially those who haven't read the books. Thanks!
I don't particularly love it, just not my style. :)
But I'm a firm believer that the parents have the power of Veto so no nam should be forced on the kid if a parent doesn't like it :)
I know I'm a fan of shortening names and if the kid was around me he'd be Gary.
also I think Garion sounds a bit.. girly.. like Marion.

Personally I too don't like it. I also felt it was a bit of a girly name. Sorry just my opinion.

I don't like it - but rather than Marion, I think of carrion (ie rotting dead meat), which is just plain not nice in conjunction with a child's name.
I thought of carrion too. :/
I don't think it sounds girly at all, although i've read the books and so associate the name with a boy.

Hi ya Puk, I think Garion is nice. I was born and grew up in Europe (UK and the Nederland), I've met many Garions (well one or two), they are French origin I think?
Doesn't sound very Shakespearean to me tho he he :D

No, not Shakespearean! You're the first person i've ever come across (other than those who've read the Belgariad) who has heard of the name. Most people are saying they don't like it though so i'm still not sure what to do! At least i'm not actually pregnant yet, i have a while to decide! :P
