Ok, I was looking up my nose today in the mirror (as you do...for no particular reason lol).

Anyway, I was stunned to see that basically my septum (that middle bit that seperates your 2 nostrils) is on what looks like a 45 degree angle - basically, one of my nostrils (up the top on the inside of my nose, not down the bottom) is fully rounded and looks normal...the other one is so tiny its about 1/5th the size of my normal one. I can actually see my septum on the angle and it looks quit red..I don't even know if the redness of it is normal...it doesn't feel lumpy or swollen though.

Gees, I hope this makes sense.

I do get alot of allergies - I sneeze almost every morning for about 20 mins once I have woken up. I wonder if this is all connected?

So, has anyone else had this? I can't believe I have never noticed before.

Yes, I too have a deviated septum (the technical name for it). My nose is visibly crooked from the outside too. Unless its causing problems, like recurrent sinus infections - which I've had all my life - then its not a problem, iykwim.

If however it IS causing chronic sinusitus, then you need to get a referral to an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist. I had to have a sinus washout a couple of years ago because my sinus' don't drain properly, and a couple of years before my FIL passed away he had to have his deviated septum re-set (basically where they break your septum and then reset it so it doesn't pose such a problem.

Thank you so much Clarabelle...I think I will go and ask for a referral to an ENT spec.

My nose isn't obviously crooked, but I kind of notice a little bit of a bend, DF can't see the bend from the outside but can see it when I get him to look up my nose :o

The septum is linked to allergies and hay fever. There is a pressure point on the septum which you can apply pressure to stop the runny nose. But to be honest, all you get is a snotty finger even if it does help.

I used to get really bad allergies and hayfever until I had my septum pierced, now I rarely get more than a sniffle.

Yep yep yep! I have this too.....my sister used to tease me for it... It's quite obvious if i tip my head back.....one of my nostrils is tiny compared to the other one. I also get really bad hayfever ....have to take tablets every day for it...:(
