I have recently been told to give my 7 month old a small amount of mylanta before each feed to line his tummy before a feed to help with the reflux. Can this hurt him? I have giving him 2mls for each feed and there has not been any chuck today. Please reply:barf:
Hi,
Thanks for contacting our organisation. Mylanta can be used very successfully for some children, but generally only for a short time, and it generally doesn’t stop any vomiting. Have you let your doctor know that you have tried Mylanta and it seemed to help? Did your son feed better with the Mylanta?
I think Mylanta is quite safe in small doses, but you do need to discuss that with your doctor and/or pharmacist to make sure it is right for your child. It can cause bowel disturbances in some children, though my kids never seemed to have any problems.
The dr may prefer to use a different medication if it is necessary for a longer period, or frequently, so please speak with your doctor about your son’s reflux.
I hope that helps
Glenda
