I am due to have a c-section in just under 2 weeks. Lately when I lie on my back I feel like I am choking...whether it is anxiety or pressure of the baby I am unsure. Just wondering how I will be expected to lie on my back for the c-section when I find it impossible to breathe?:gloomy: I go all hot and sweaty and feel like I am going to faint....

I see my OB next Friday for the last time before the birth but was hoping that somebody may have an answer to this.

Do they give you something to calm your nerves, do they prop you up on pillows.... I feel sick thinking about it!:barf:

When you go to your OB & also at your pre-admission appointment (mine was about 3 or 4 days prior to my c/s), explain what difficulties you are having. They should be able to see if there is a medical reason for what you are feeling, or offer some suggestions for you.

I advised to mention it at your pre-admission appt, as I remember them asking me if I had any issues with anxiety etc.

It may help you to know that by the time they got my spinal in, and I was on the table, I could literally think of nothing else than meeting my new bub!! It really is so exciting you may find your worries will all disappear.

Yup, what MrsM said

They can give you something to help take the edge off, but chances are you're going to be so happy and focused on meeting your new baby that you probably won't be worried about anything.

Good luck with the birth of you bubba! It's going to be a very special day for you.

i dont know how but you can lay comfortably for the surgery. maybe the anesthesia...
BTW invest in some comfy seemless high cut undies and a dress! Nothing worse than pants and undies rubbing on the scar for weeks. i put a breast pad over the edge of my underpants. It helps
Good luck:thumbsup: And dont worry. You arent the first and wont be the last.............

Oh and what mrs M said!

Thanks Mrs Miggins...

I keep hoping that is the case. I am just so excited I can hardly wait and don't want to spoil it all by having an anxiety attack and vomiting!!

;) I can understand that!! I have suffered from anxiety attacks in the past and was very concerned the same thing would happen when I went in for my c/s.

But (and I don't know if you are the same) having a lot of people buzzing aorund me also gave me something to focus on & kept me grounded. And yes, focussing on your excitment (and your partner) helps A LOT!!

Good luck with it all! Can't wait to hear all about your new bub!! :D

They do usually put a thing under one hip so you're not lying flat. Try not to worry too much, I'm sure it will be ok. MrsM has given you some great advice.

I found that the hospital team made me feel very comfortable during the c/s. However the spinal block kept making me feel like I was very short of breath, and i felt a lot of pressure on my chest. (apparently because you're diaphram has to do all the work)

Hey there

When you lie on your back in the late stage of pregnancy all the weight puts pressure on a nerve and vein in your back.. This vein carries blood and oxygen to you and your babe.. I was always advised to lie on my left side as these nerves also runs down your right side.. Dont worry this will not danger u or ur babe..it's just uncomfortable.

As the other ladies have said.. once the spinal goes in you wont feel a thing.

Good luck with everything

I agree with Mrs Miggins. I initially felt very anxious on the bed after the numbing took effect, and wanted to jump off the bed, but then a calm came over me and all I could thinkabout then was that I was only minutes away from meeting my baby. I definately agree that you should mention your worries at your next appointment. GOOD LUCK and all the very best for your C-section:thumbsup:

when i had a c-section with my DS they gave me my spinal and laid me down and i felt a lil icky.. i was not propped up.. by the time i was in theatre i could not breathe properly and felt sooo sick... though i was going to throw up.. they gave me the oxygen mask and told me to take deep breaths and relax.. once i got to see bub for the first time i felt a lil better but still nauseated and hotand clamy... once in recovery i was fine.. i think it was more because i hate hospitals and was nervous having surgery done etc.. all i know is in the end it is worth it... i had also been put through a lot the last few days before i had my c-section.. i would suggest talking to your OB about your concerns etc... and good luck :D:D:hugs:

Thanks girls

All your feedback has been wonderful :hugs: I think I will start my deep breathing relaxation strategies now...in preparation.

I feel claustrophobic when I lie flat (probably also because bubs is still sitting high!) - doubt whether it will drop in the next week or so??? One can only hope!!

Thanks again

Hey there!!

They will keep asking you throughout the c-section as well how your breathing is and if you are feeling okay and will make sure you are as comfortable as you possibly can be. I actually got really sick from the epi and the anetheitist (I just tried 5 times to spell this - let's just say the drug guy!!!), gave me some anti-nausea medication added into the epi and I was fine in seconds - then I got sick again so he added a little bit more and all was good!
Oh - an I agree with what everyone else is saying
Good luck!! How exciting!!

I had an emergency csection and remember that they gave me something to drink to "settle" my stomach.
I remember the middie saying that it would be gross, but I gulped it down - i just wanted to meet my baby!

There will be plenty of people in theatre with you, I think about 10 from memory, so you will have alot of people looking after you.
