Hey everyone,

We have been discussing trying for another baby sometime next year and I'm just getting my research done early!

My DD was born 29 weeks early and I was just curious if there is a higher chance I might have another premmie? I'd be interested to hear anyone's stories or advice on this!

Thanks!

I believe having a bub that's prem does increase your risk somewhat of it happening in the next pregnancy - however it does depend on the reason that the baby was premature and whether that's likely to repeat itself in the next pregnancy. For example an infection that causes you to go into labour early isn't likely to happen again so your odds would be pretty good of going to term, where as a medical condition like high blood pressure probably guarantees you'll go early again.

My DD was born at just on 36 weeks (not as prem as your bub but still considered early) and I really worried about my second baby coming even earlier than that. As it turned out I got to 38 weeks with him and he only came then because I had to be induced...he was pretty cosy and I think without the induction would've been in there at least another week.

My two were both prem, but no one could say before they were born if it would happen again. My midwife said chances were high, my GP said it doesn't make a difference.

I started a thread asking the same question when I was first pregnant with DS2, and there were lots of positive replys and a few negative ones.

What I do know is it is easier emotionally the second time round because you know it works out, not sure about your fisrt bub, but I knew my DS1 was just fine.

It was hard to juggle my DS1 while coming and going from NICU, my husband and family were great and we tagg teamed a lot, one would be with Noah while the other was with Lachy

I hope all goes well, you might be at 41 weeks and thinking "OMG what do I do now"

It depends on the reason she was born prematurely. #1 was 9 weeks prem #2 only 5 weeks and #3 they thought was coming at 21 weeks but made it to almost 39!!

Hmm.. I'm not sure why she was born early...

Actually HoopDeeDoo I actually think I would be more worried this time. Although DD did amazingly well and had no problems, but at the time I didn't realise how many things can go wrong. Since then I have heard so many sad stories about premmies I think I would be stressing so much more!

but thanks for replying everyone. Whatever happens happens I guess.

Hi Mummy to a Princess,

I think you never can tell. I was born at 26wks and 1 lb 14oz, my brother at 32wks (3lb 2), another brother at 30wks (2lb 3) and then my sister, a whopping big pink 39.3 weeks and 7lb 6! We all thought she was so huge!!

The good thing is that Drs can keep a close eye on you throughout this pregnancy, so I'm sure all will be fine.:hugs:
