Hi,
My first post so please be gentle :)
'We' are due to have our first bub on 21 January 2007 and are planning to move the little un into daycare or something after 6 months. After reading various threads it would appear that we need to get our finger out and try and sort something asap (unfortunately as we emigrated here with no family we have no rellies we can use :().
Does anyone have any recommendations for childcare in the Stafford area, or even the North Lakes area..depending upon where we drop bub off).
Would appreciate any help.
Ta very much.
Hello Mr Flibble:wave:
Welcome to bubhub for a start! I cant think of any good centers off the top of my head...but steer clear of nurseryland. Ive heard some bad things!:wizard:

For not-for-profit community childcare centres in Brisbane please call The Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland. They have a head office in Newmarket and can steer you towards anyone of the 350+ centres that are either owned or affiliated with them. This is a non-profit organisation.
There is also a corporate chain that originated from Qld, (they are all over this site). They have some fantastic ads on TV at the moment. I would advise to exercise caution with this company. They are a for-profit organisation.

Bright Beginnings at Chermside West On Hamilton Rd-
My DD started at BB at just 11 months old and continued there until she started school 2 years ago-I couldn't recommend the place enough.
Janine and Jacinta (directors) are fantastic-the staff were all brilliant as we moved through the age groups and alot of the staff have been with the centre a long time. That really impressed us when we were choosing a centre to look after our daughters day to day development while we were at work.
Just before Xmas DD and I dropped in to say hello and we are always welcomed back with open arms and more importantly they always remember everyones names. Communication between the parents and carers was always forthcoming and any concerns were dealt with immediately (such as toddler biting etc). We were always informed if there were any illness issues such as cases of chicken pox etc etc and DD loved the theme days they held regulary.
We love it and if we were to have another child that needed care I would have no hesitation in returning to Bright Beginnings!!!!! They are really personal and not just a business!!!

Just be aware with that one (cnr Appleby / Rode RDs) hasn't finished being built yet so you won't be able to check out the facilities / staff etc yet. Should be done by the time baby is born / ready to go!! :)

Hey perhaps try giving NurseryLand at Stafford a call, they are in McNaughton Street which is off of Stafford Road and there waiting lists generally aren't too bad.
We are Motherduck here and I am 99.9 % happy with the care and my DD has been there two years and eight months now.
Good luck:thumbsup:

Definately steer clear!!
I worked int his centre for a brief time, and I would NEVER send my child there, and wouldn't recommend that anyone else does either.

Oh wow! Katie, I'm sorry to hear that you had to experience that horrid centre!!
Thanks Selina. We went there at the start of last year and it was just one dodgy thing after the other.
I actually tried to get jake into tadpoles so he could play with bodhi!! he he
But we are happy with Hamilton Road.

ditto to that. my two were there for a couple of months and the things that used to go on in the centre in Progress Rd, Grange, are unbelieveable. very very unprofessional to say the least. it now shocks me to think that i left my kids in their care for even that long.

i met another parent there (Nurseryland) also who was desperate to get their child out but becuase both parents were full time workers and the wait lists in other centres were so long, they were kinda stuck.
fortunately i have found a great centre in the windsor community childcare ctr; one that i feel confident about. but after my experience with nurseryland and one other previous ctr in perth, i came to the decision that if something were to go wrong at windsor, i would no longer take me kids to any daycare ctr.....sad, but i'm not prepared to risk it anymore.

What are the problems with Nurseryland at Stafford? I know someone who sends both her kids there and she has never mentioned any problems?

I'm unaware of a Nurseryland in Stafford, although i know there are about 3 of the Nursery land centres in North Brisbane within close proximity to each other.
My experiences are with Nurseryland in Grange. Sorry i can't help you.

Hi,
I'm new to bubhub so hope this works. We have just arrived in Brisbane from London and found a place for our 18 month old at Nurseryland at Grange. But now am thinking twice based on the comments on the thread. Would anyone mind telling me some more about the problems to help my decision please? Would the problems be relevant to an 18 month old or only younger children? Many thanks.

I had had my daughter go through Nurseryland from 15mths to 5 yrs and she had the best time when she was there, all the things she learned gave her the best head start for school, and my second child is about to start. I have never had any problems with the centre. I'ts pretty sad to say, but it only takes one negative person to put a bad word out there, but how many people step up to give the good guys a wrap when it's due, and i'm sure there is more of you out there.:yelclap:
Hi there,
If i was you i would use this website www.mykidsfuture.com.au to search for all centres in the Stafford area, you can search by postcode or suburburb or centre name.... i did a search for you and found 10 centres ........Good luck :o)
Cheers
i know a couple who had twins in a nurseryland and over a 6mth period only both twins were there together on about 3 days because they were always getting sick. the parents commented to me about how there were always sick children there:thumbsdown:
personally i don't recommend hamilton rd - we pulled our dd out of there after a number of biting incidents and we would often find bites on her a night time(on her tummy or arms) and the final straw came when a child bit her whilst dh was there and the lady in the room denied that it happened for over a month despite the fact that there was a HUGE bruise on her back for 4 days!(I even have photo's!!!) Why would you lie about something like this only to turn around a month later and admit that it happened??? I am so much happier since pulling her out of there and she is so much happier too!!!
Sorry! that place still gets me rilled up!!!

Ok ladies, calm down!!!! I hope i may be able to help...
I know of a child care centre, and i can not recommend the highly enough. Its Blackwood St Child care centre on Blackwood Street, Mitchelton... i think they are usually quite full so im hoping you may have some luck with them but they have the most brilliant staff workers, conditions for children, its beautiful...
Its also not for profit so the centre puts alot of money back into the place and you can see this as they are always improving the yard, etc.
Their number is 3354 1244.
Hope that helps somewhat!!!
Generally, MOST privately owned centres have dodgy things happening - not only with what you see - but the behind the scenes stuff can be scary (worked in many).
Look for community centres.... or church run child care centres, mostly they operate not for proift where as privately owned centres just make money as a business. Youll just get a 'feel' for a child care centre... honestly!
Hope that helps!!
