I organised to have a 1st bday cake made for my dd's birthday last week ( I don't know if you should say the compnay) well its a big australia wide company. Well anyway I ordered the cake a week before the party to be ready on her bday to pick up and when I sent mum to collect the cake, there was no cake made. the order somehow got lost. I was soooooo angry:(
We rang around everywhere and couldnt get a cake big enough we only had an hour and half till her bday party so we had to buy a small plain happy bday cake as this was our only option. I am so angry as I have no photos of her 1st bday cake to stick in her album for memories of her 1st birthday:thumbsdown:

You have a right to feel pi**ed off, I would be! And what an occasion for it to happen on too :(.

At least your DD had her family and friends with her on her special day :hugs:, while i know it would have been perfect to have the cake you planned, those photos and memories will still be special forever.

And jess, do MIL's EVER think! :banghead:

Yeah I did pay for the Cake upfront and then after they didnt have it they offered a refund but even so I don't care about the money. its the point that I had no cake for her, I am so angry with this company.
I have called them up to complain the last couple days to the head office and they put me trough to the complaints guy you have to deal with and the answer machine just goes on so I havent even been able to tell them how upset I am!

Kel- Dakotas party turned out fantastic, we had a fantastic time but I am with you 100%.

How unprofessional for a company to forget to make a cake, especially a first birthday cake. It was such a busy morning for you as it was without the added stress of trying to find a replacement cake.

I dont think they handled the situation very well either, a refund simply is not good enough:no:

I agree, write an email or letter to head office:yes:

Must be a the same place we used for DD's cake they ran out of the ingrediants to make hers....they didnt call to ask what we would like to change it too, the day we got there they said oh sorry we ran out off "blah and blah" so we made a vanilla one(plain vanilla for a kids cake:rolleyes:) how exciting.

At least we got our cake but its so stupid these places know how important kids parties are, its probably their biggest bussiness and they dont even seem to care.......

It would have been dissappointing for a first B Day of all birthdays for this to happen.

I can guess which company you used. They have made a mistake 2 years in a row for my sons cake. Luckily for us it turned out for the best on both occassions. The first year they made vanilla instead of chocolate but realised in time and made chocolate as well. As they had already decorated it with name and age they couldnt resell it so gave us both!!!

This year my husband went to pick it up on the morning and it couldnt be found and the order lost! Eventually it turned up in the wrong store, it was 3 times as big as the one I ordered and they told my husband I had already paid in full which I hadn't.

For such a well known company it's amazing how unorganized they are.

I'm sure Dakota enjoyed the party non the less. Often the things that matter to the parents do not worry the kids. We went to a party once with a huge chocolate extravaganza, just as every one was about to sing happy birthday a tot leant on the table and the whole thing went over!!!! the mum was mortified but the kids thought it was hysterical. My boys still laugh about it 2 years later!

I do agree that you should write a letter of complaint though.

If you want(i know it's not the same) but you could come over here & we could make a number 1 for her & you can take it home & do a little fake b'day cake night

That's awful...but I have a solution...
If Dakota has been Baptised/Christened or has had a naming day then use the date of that ceremony to get the cake that you wanted and snap away - that way, it is a special day that you're celebrating (we light the Baptism candle and have a little party every year for the boys' Baptism dates) and you get the pics of the cake to go into the album.
Jesse's birthday cake this year - he wanted an orange/black jack-o-lantern cake...no problem said the shop (even showed us a pic of one that they'd made before)...got to the day (my MIL picked it up) and it was a pink pumpkin with grey piping!!!!! An angry phone call was made (they said 'bring the cake back and we'll refund your money') I had children at my house ready/waiting for a cake!!! We ate the cake (and not one child, not even Jesse remarked about the colour) and got a refund.

this is why i would never order a cake for special occasions.. too much chance of it being stuffed up..
luckily my brother makes all my girls cakes..

goodluck with getting a reply though. :fingerscrossed: its soon! dont let them get away with it!

In your complaint email, post the address to this thread, they can then see all the bad publicity they are getting in their ideal market place, once they see it, they will probably then take you seriously!!!!!

Hope they learn their lesson real quick. They should be offering you one free b'day cake for the next two years at least to make up for it. Thats propbably the only way they could 'save face', if you come back here and post how good they have been with making up for their stuff-up!

Good luck!
