View Full Version : Colby and Cheddar... the new additions to our familiy
I wanted the boys to have a pet... but we can't have cats or dogs as we are renting... so I thought... hmm, what's a pet that the boys will like, they can't hurt, I don't have to maintain a real lot and won't die easily. So enters.. Colby and Cheddar... our mice :smiliedance: The boys absolutely love them (they can't touch them because they'd crush their little bones) but they LOVE to watch them running around their little house and everytime a visitor comes over the boys drag them into their room to show off their mice. I thought it was a great way to introduce the aspect of responsibility to them.. they help me feed and clean them.. by carrying the things we need to the bench, and stand by and watch while I clean the cage... they hand the little toys back to me to put into the cage, and help me carry everything back to garage to put it away until next week.
Best pet I've ever had! clean them once a week... top up their food and water twice a week, don't have to play with them and the boys love them.
So if anyone is thinking of wanting a pet, without the maintenance of a bigger pet (or if you can't have one because you're renting).... I can reccomend mice.
:D :D :D
mice are great pets- i'm just hoping you know.. that going by the names.. cheese isn't a good food for mice.. otherwise enjoy your new little companions... i love mice... they're fantastic pets!:smiliedance:

In year 8 I had a mouse. Hes name was Jordan.
We had him for 2 yrs. My dad took over the responsibility because I got involved in going out and stuff and didnt have much time for him.
But my dad spoilt him so much he was the size of the palm of my hand no s*** in fatness.
He could not fit in his running wheel, let alone climb up it.
My dad fed him penut butter, cream, icecream you name it.
But the best thing mice love is big fat moths.
If you are able to do it, if not get your partner too ( i never liked it) catch some moths around the outdoor lights and put them in the cage (alive). They will scoff them down in a second.
Have fun they are great pets (I dont like wild ones though).
Heya mousekateers,
Yeah I know cheese isn't good for them... but I just loved the names! (seems I'm not alone)
I grew up with mice... I have a new respect for my Dad. My parents were divorced so I only saw Dad on fortnight weekends and I remember at his house my sister and I both had a guinea pig each and 3 mice!! So for the whole fortnight Dad had to look after a menagerie of small marsupial pets just so we could play with them for 2 out of every 14 days. (Good sport Dad!)
My first mouse was named Ferret *grin* he was MASSIVE... and sssooooooo well trained (he came when I called him!!) then I went away to school camp and my younger sister let him out and lost him. I was SO upset!!!
it's funny with my boys though... everytime I clean Colby and Cheddar's cage, they cheack the bin to make sure I haven't thrown out their mice with the sawdust.... so cute.
