ds2 is vomiting after almost every feed it started off as a little dribble but now it is remining me of farex and is way more. he feeds alot. is also really unsettled and cries for ages (this i belive is colic) anyway, can bubs have both colic and reflux? ds2 is going to the dr's as soon as medicare get back to me with my new number (long story lol) he is hard to burp but he is getting used to burping slowly.
i am told medicare will cal me today or tomorow morning. so does this sound like reflux ds1 was a spewy bub but he didnt have reflux he was just drinking too much in one go:laughing: ds2 is gaining weight well and is BF. the brauer colic relief stuff isnt doing much now. while i am at the dr's should i get ds2 tested for allergies?
I would get him checked by your Dr. Any vomiting especially in babies under 6weeks need to be checked to rule out other conditions and to check for reflux. He is gaining weight which is good but do get him checked.

 we went to the dr's yesturday and the dr said it was reflux. he said at the moment ds2 doesnt need the medication for it but if he starts projectile vomiting i have to take him back to get the medication.
he said it would probably go away by 6 months but thats ages away
so if you have any tips on how i can keep my sanity (especially during the early hours of the morning like 2am) please share:D

can anyone give me a list of foods that make reflux worse so i can avoid them? i looked at the site linkedon the bub hub fact sheet page and it was a bit vague it said:
avoid foods that can aggravate reflux such as citrus, tomato, fatty foods, spicy foods, chocolate and carbonated drinks.is there a place i can get a list that lists specifics:laughing:
Sorry i'm no help with what foods to avoid as both my kids were on formula when they were diagnosed.
Here are some other things which may help
Leave him upright for at least 20min after a feed
Prop one end of his cot/bassenette up so his head is slightly elervated
Avoid changing his nappy after a feed and if you have to lie him on his side instead of his back.
Do go back to your Dr if he is still crying heaps and very unsettled as the medication will help to ease the burning in his throat and the pain.
Go back straight away if he starts to projectile vomit, looses weight or becomes very lathargic as they will need to check for pyloric stenosis (a blockage at the bottom of the stomach)
Have you checked out the Reflux support web site they may have more info on what not to eat while BF

Good luck

DD had reflux, only hers was severe and she screamed 18hrs a day for 10mths. Lovely when you have no one to take her for 5mins so you can shower in peace, lol.
None of these worked for us, but they may for your baby.........
* try and keep him upright between feeds and prop the cot matress up so that it is slightly elevated while he is sleeping.
* get a thickener for his formula if he is bottle fed or switch to an AR formula.
* you can get gaviscon for babies over the counter at the chemist, try him on that if he seems to be in pain

this reminds me of when my dd 2 went on the bottle , she was also very unsettled to ,
In the end i ended up using Novalac sweet dreams , http://www.epharmacy.com.au/product.asp?id=50003&pname=Novalac+SD+Sweet+Dreams+Infant+Formula+800g
They also have a colic one to :)
Btw if he does have colic or reflux ive herd that you can get a Script for it an get the formula Alot cheaper with medicare card.

Brooke only ended up on formula because of her cleft, but I can't see any reason why you should stop breastfeeding him.
I found this link for you.........

thanks for the link. i got alot out of it.
DP has no placed a "you cant have kfc or any of the other foods ban" lol he just likes to tease me as a joke:laughing:
Hi there you might find if you express and then get some kare care thickener can get it from the chemist for about $10 I didn't ue a full scoop of the thinkener or bub couldn't suck it but the colic and reflux stopped..
Also another tip get 2 house bricks and put under the head of the cot so bub is always 20o this works most of the time.
Hope this helps
If you do ever have to change to forumla get the thickened Karecare

Karicare make a thickener that you can buy at the chemist. From memory you add a scoop to each bottle. Comes in handy for thickening food as well (like when you add too much milk to your mashed potatoes like I do on a regular basis, LOL).

I was in the chemist this morning and noticed they didn't have the Karicare thickener any more but they did have another brand. Can't remember the brand either though, lol.
Good luck with the Dr's appointment.

well we just got back from the dr's.
the dr said if ds2 continues to projectile vomit (he started this today) i have to take him toget a abdominal xray to rule out some congential thing that i cant spell let alone pronounce
the dr said after the xray if ds2 has thexray he'll see what treatment ds2 needs. doesnt really help me now:banghead:
MIL said a friend told her i should BF ds2 laying down on my back.so ds2 "works for the feed" how this is meant to help with reflux i dont know it it as outdated as i think it is?
a few ppl have told me about infacol(sp?)what is it?
The congenital condition is pyloric stenosis and it is when the muscle at the bottom of the stomach closes a few weeks after birth. It is more common in boys then girls. My Ds had this when he was 3 weeks old.
here are some of the other symptoms
- Projectile vomiting after every feed - DS started vomiting every second feed then after a few day it was every feed. It usually comes up as one almighty vomit about 10min after a feed.
- no weight gain or weight loss
- very lathargic and sleeping a lot
- refusal to feed
I wouldn't wait too long until you have the ultrasound if he continues to projectile vomit as little babies will dehydrate very quickly.
:fingerscrossed: its not PS but if it is it is a pretty simple operation to fix it.
Good luck
let me know how you go and if you want any more info

Infacol is for colic....I wouldn't bother with it as it is useless for reflux.
Hi there jessgray
If your Dr thinks your bub has pyloric stenosis i would be asking for him to send me to a paediatric specialists as we don't do xrays on little one to find out we do U/sounds but it souns like you should go and see a paediatric Dr sooner than later and get him to check out your bub you don't want it to go on to long if it is pyloric stenosis most babys with pyloric stenosis you find out when there born or in the first few weeks as they don't keep anything down..
Hope that helps and youub is all good soon..

thanks guys that helps alot. i am going to take ds2 to my old dr who used to see ds1 to get a referal to ds1's peadtrician.
when he vomits it comes up fast but doesnt go far i ussally land on him or me lol he sleeps alot but because he is easily disturbed he often wakes up about 40 mins later.i figured that was normal coz ds1 slept alot too.
should i worry about clear goo-like vomit?
When is he vomiting? Is he vomits in one almighty vomit 10 - 20 min after a feed or will he vomit several times aften hours later? If its in one vomit shortly after a feed i would be more concerned. Personaly I would take him to your old Dr and get him to refer him straight for an ultrasound. The other thing to know before you see the Dr is what his weight is.
I would push for an U/S soon, if the other Dr was concerned about pyloric stenosis you really do need to get it check soon.
Hope it goes well at the dr

hi rell  sorry bout late reply kinda forgot about this thread  i finally got in to see my old dr on friday morning. and i told her what the other dr said and stuff and she booked me to go back n see her on the 15th to check ds2's weight (she doesnt have bub scaled in her office but i see mchn on 6th) and if he is losing weight she said we'd figure out what to do then. but at this stage i could try infant gaviscon she said some times it helps sometimes it doesnt. i have found though thanks to my lactose intolerance i cant have dairy at all any more and am now on soy, ds2 is vomiting less but is still vomiting but not as often. so i think he has both reflux and a dairy related allergy i have only been on soy onyl for a few days and the amount of vomit has ecreased so much for it not to be coz of that if that makes sense:detective:
