It's getting close to that time of year again, and I never know what to get for the kids teachers and day carers  . Does anyone have any good suggestions? Nothing too extravagant, but just wanted something a little different to chocolates etc. I have three females and one male to buy for.

Are there any teachers or day care workers here? What do you enjoy getting most for presents?

what about fridge magnets, you can get your little ones to make them , you can get cheap kits from spotlight or even book stores, or just make somthing up yourself and buy the magnetic backing

just a thought, was the first thing that poped into my head lol

I made this for Jesse to give to his kinder teacher last year...
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/csbridger/100_0961.jpg
he gave the assistant a mug with a Christmas wreath and her name painted on it.
The platter cost $10 and the mug was $2 - of course I wasn't paying for my own time.
My cousin (who's a teacher) says the gifts that have been personalised or made by hand always mean the most to her.

Hi I'm a mum and a teacher on eternal maternity leave and I can assure you that I still have a cupboard of soaps and powders that will never be used. I can however tell you about some of my favourite gifts from students. Christmas centrepieces for the table, A basket of goodies that are just the size for one, a tea cup and it was filled with single sachets of teas, a photo of a student that gave me so much grief in a frame that said favourite student ( it still makes me laugh when I look at it) photo albums never go astray or pick something that your child loved doing in the class and buy a teachers aid that would fit that thing eg if your child loved science buy the teacher a book of wierd and wonderful experiments sometimes its all about what the teacher meant to the child and it could be that they are just as sweet as a box of chocolates!!

My mum made it a tradition for myself and my brother to give our teachers Poinsettas(sp??) as table decorations for xmas and stuff. Coffee mugs/teacups are good too. (my mum is a teacher as well)

Every year we make Christmas Biscuits(usually shortbread cut into stars etc.), White Christmas and also put in a few Rum Balls...I keep all my coffee jars throughout the year and the kids decorate them with christmas stickers ribbons, etc :) . Makes them more personalised..
This year I have gone through all my SFI magazines and have found Christmas Tree & Reindeer treats(shape of carrots-just need to find a cookie cutter:fingerscrossed: ) that we are going to give a try...

Everyone has made fantastic suggestions, mine is a little less exciting really but worth letting you know,

My aunty makes chocolates at Christmas with melted choc and christmas shapes moulds and bags them up in celophane and ties ribbons around. She gives them to all the kids she knows.

Maybe you could do this for the teachers and put a little tag on it made by your kids?

I like the busicuit suggestion too!

Mamaduke, your platter is absoultely fantastic and so creative! You really should start a business!

Infact all you mums are very creative:thumbsup:

I too am a primary teacher who is on maternity leave. i love everything i get as i figure many families have enough to spend their money on. some of my favourites are the children's favourite books which they buy for me- great idea as later on down the track my son can also read them; christmas baubles with mine or hubbies or son's name on them with glitter; mugs (can never have too many).
Hope this helps!!!!:)

Thanks for all the ideas

Mamaduke your platter is gorgeous, unfortunately I don't have a creative bone in my body  so that idea is probably out for me.

I might make up little packages with mugs, coffee(or Gloria Jeans gift voucher), chocolates etc. Or maybe bottles of wine and get the kids to make the cards and paper.

Thanks again.

Just thought of an idea and had to share as I think its cute.......

1. Buy a large lovely looking basket and just fill it with glorious shiny red apples, add a ribboned tag that reads "Thanks a Bunch love (childs name)
V.cute for a teacher and healthy too boot!

2. Saw this on a hamper site and am going to steal the idea for my sons kindy teachers,
Buy a large gold bucket (you can get them at the reject shop) and some gold chocolate coins, fill the bucket with the coins and wrap in cellophane with a tag that reads "Your worth your weight in gold.......thanks a million!"

oh and who is loving these new smilies

:xmas: :tree:  :reindeer:

From another teacher, don't give candles!!! I have a million candles scattered around the house and stuffed in cupboards that I received as gifts from students.

Homemade cards are the best gifts that I have received, as they are from the kids, rather than their parents wallet IYKWIM. A written message from a students is a permanent reminder of your thanks.

I am a teacher and I love choccies.
Presents to go on the chrissy tree like a scratchy in a card to hand from the tree. Special ornamnets so the children can be remembered at christmas time.

Why not recycle them as gifts to others if you have so many?
