Hi Mummies, I just have a few questions that have been bugging me for a while.

How does tandem feeding work? What I mean is, if you are BF your first child when your second is born, does the newborn still get some colostrum (?) and if so then does your firstborn have it too?

Also, how does a baby self wean, and aprox what age does this occur?

I am BF my 5 1/2 month old DD at the moment and we are thinking about TTC early next year.

Thanks in advance

I breast fed dd for 13mnths when I dried up I was then about 5mnths preggars and it happened slowly until one day there was just no milk dd didnt care it was so easy although I did get a great book from ABA cost $5 as i was intending to b/f both. Each child is different and they wean when they are ready some only a few mnths old

Hi AprilsMum

I have heard that breastmilk changes back to colostrum when bubba #2 is born, but flows like breast milk still, so there is plenty for toddler and newborn. The problem is that it flows too fast for the newborn to swallow!

My sister in law has 14 month gap then 13 month gap between her 3 kids and intented to tandem feed, but the milk dried up during the pregnancies. Some say the flavour changes with the pregnancy hormones, and causes baby to self wean.

Good luck with it though, hope it works out for you.
