Hi Amy

My DD is the same - she is 4 months on the 16th. She sleeps 45 mins normally three times a day, sometimes 4 and refuses to do a longer lunchtime nap. I am also out a lot - perhaps you are right and we should stay at home

That seems like a lot of sleep to me :) A baby's sleep cycle is about 45 mins long so many of them sleep in 45 minute increments which get longer as they get better at switching from light to deep sleep. There's no rule about how much babies should sleep, there's only your baby and how they are on that amount of sleep. As they reach developmental milestones (also to their own personal timetable) their sleep changes. Basically if your baby is doing it, it's normal baby behaviour :D Sometimes I could boob my son back to sleep at the end of his first 45 minute cycle and then he'd be out for another hour and a half because he relaxed into deeper sleep. Babies in slings often sleep longer as they're being held and the movement and the security help them sleep longer. But really, it's about how happy your child is, not some suggested sleep amount. It's all a good learning time for us to recognise their tired cues and act accordingly. :)

thanks guys it makes me feel better that there are other babies out there that sleep the same he is very happy when he is up,i used to stress over it and think he has been awake for an hour i better put him back to sleep but i have decided now to go with the flow becasuse i found that i was always stressing ,the last couple of days i have been keeping him up longer and trying to wear him out and he has been falling asleep on the boob which he has never done ,maybe he will sleep good when he is 21
