Hi Krissy
Depends whether you want a manual or automatic one?
I have just bought an Avent ISIS manual pump, it is the only one with a cushioned "let down" system. Of course I can't tell you how good it works yet lol, but it was recommended to us at the Baby expo.
I also bought it new from eBay for $70 which was $30 cheaper than retail.

It depends on how much you'll be using it.
If for one off feeds, I love my Avent isis bbut if you can, get an electric. The ABA hires them out!

I can't remember the brand of the breastpump I have but it is either battery operated or can be plugged into wall electric pump and I find/found that one to be fantastic:thumbsup:
I think any electric portable breastpump is going to be a good thing though - so much more convenient!;)

Hi
I've used both manual and electric pumps and the manual are kinder to your breasts. I have the Avent Isis pump (which I will be selling as I'm all done with it) and the lactation consultant I saw said I should only do 10 mins after each feed. I wish I'd known that the first time when I used the electric one for 30+ mins feeling like a cow :D
Anyway, it is nice and gentle and easy to use. Can't remember the price as I bought it 3 years ago, but I should think it was worth it.

I've got an Isis too, because with DS I'm not expressing regularly. I've done it 4 or 5 times, just to relieve engorgement in the early days, and once to try him on a sippy cup.
But with DD, I was expressing after every feed, and I found electric worked better. I didn't try every type - and the Medela ones in the hospital are very good - I was strapped for cash so I had limited choice. I bought a Nuk electric. You can plug it in, or put batteries in it, and although it's noisy, it worked for me. It did a great job.

I actually find the ISIS more effective than the electric - at least the electric I had (lindum, I think). You have more control, so you can pump as hard or soft as you like. I could fill a bottle much quicker with the ISIS. One good tip I figured out is to take out the massage cushion - I found it hampered my ability to pump, but maybe that was just me...
i used the avent isis too. it was really easy to use and didnt hurt. dont know the price my sis gave it to me. think ive seen them in big w for $80 included was 2 x 125ml bottles.

I have an Avent ISIS and it was great. It came with spare parts, unlike the Pur pump I had initially bought that broke!
I found the massage pad on the ISIS irritated my skin, it was still comfy to use without it.
It was so easy to use that I would give DD her bottle with one hand and express with the other. I paid about $85 from a chemist.

Medela Double Electric - CANNOT recommend highly enough! I had a NUK electric/portable one and it made my nipples bleed to the point that I looked down one day, after about 1 min of pumping to see the entire funnel full of blood (no milk)!!
Then I got the Medela one and it is just so excellent, it has a suck/release action which kinda mimicks a baby feeding and it's just so gentle. It's the brand that they had in the hospital when I had bub.
