Hi im a first time mum and my son is 10 months and is still not saying the ma or da sounds.. he does sqweal and make the "ha" noise but thats it. Im not sure if its just paranoia but is there something wrong?? He does repsond to his name and if i ask him where the fish are he will look in the direction of the fish etc.. Does this sound "normal" to you because everything that i read seem to say that he should be saying it by now and all the other babies i seem to know say it too? Did your baby do this "late"?

Try not to worry about it, all babies develop at different times and nothing is really 'normal' - it's more a guide to go on. My second son is developing far less quickly than my first, so I talked to my health nurse and she didn't seem too concerned - but I was/am doing a lot of comparing to my very articulate first child! Perhaps talk to your health nurse to ease your mind a bit.

DS1 was saying about 4 words at 10 months so now my DS2 is that age I have been worried that he really only says Dad ( or any form of it.) But after speaking to other mothers and family every child is completely different and it seems your baby is doing fine making noises and recognizing words.
I bet soon your little man will be talking to much....lol.:)

God....I've never known any bubs to be talking at 10 months!! I would say it to be the exception if they are talking at 10 months! Believe me, don't worry about it...they will talk in their own time and I don't think you will hear much in the first 12 months! My son is 4 now and you can't stop him! DD is 9 months and not a peep in any form of a proper word coming from her mouth!

if you are worried get a hearing test done to rule out a hearing problem. my ds1 is 18 months and only occasionally now says mum mum but doesnt know what he is saying he has a hearing problem that is affecting his speech development (makes it hard to explain why he cant do things:laughing: )
also keep in mind some babies dont utter a word till nearly 2 years old. my sisters were like that. while i was a chatterbox by age 1. my brothers were talking at 18 monts and 16 months. so bubs will talk when they are ready:)
