View Full Version : need help!
hi,
my daughter is 3 months now and i'd like to start using cloth. a couple of questions ...
i have inherited 8 weenees covers (not the very latest generation tho), yay! The way they seem to work is just to fold the nappy into a pad shape.
which nappies should i buy? prefolds or flats?
in terms of both absorbency and cutting down on bulk which material and how many layers is best? microfiber looks absorbent but is it synthetic? what about bamboo?
i have some ordinary terrys but they seem really bulky in the weenees.
would mcn be less bulky than the weenees option?
i have bought a metre of polarfleece to make my own liners.

suggestions please!!
thank you!
 Chant, welcome to the clothie thread.
I can't help you with the weenee stuff as I've never used them. I think there's a few ppl here who have though, who'd probably be able to help you out.
Bamboo is wonderfully absorbant, followed by hemp.
As for trimness, the fitted/pocket nappies are extremely trim (not as trim as a disgustable but way trimmer than a terry flat). As I'm not sure how big the weenees would be, I can't tell you which would be the better option, though.
Good luck.
I can't help you on the weenies either sorry but wanted to wish you luck on your cloth journey, I think I would definately try to get my hands on a couple of MCN to give them a try if you can. Does anyone you know use cloth so you can have a look?
I am not sure about weenies as I haven't used them.
We have flats, prefolds and fitteds. Bamboo is the trimmest and most absorbent imo.
Thre are AIOs (all in ones) and pockets which are very trim.
I am not fond of microfibre though it is very absorbent, I prefer bamboo.

I'm also not sure about the weenees covers, are they just like a PUL cover?
I use fitted nappies on my son under a PUL cover. I do have prefolds but they are my emergencies, they need changing more often than the fitteds.
All the best with it. Remember there are lots of people on here prepared to answer your questions.
I've sent you a private message too

Yep that is exactly how they work or you can use the flushable pads that Eenee makes.

Eenee make their own trifold nappies (but you can buy exactly the same thing at alot of online stores) they are microfibre and all you do is fold into 3 and place inside the nappy.

Try cutting the nappies in half if you are using just the normal terry's. Or even try flanelette nappies which are alot thinner.

Some are, some are not - it just depends.

That's what I did for night nappies when I was using terry flats. Works pretty well:thumbsup:

Hooray for another cloth convert! I have not used weenee's. I use pocket nappies & aio's, but I use terry towelling washers as the boosters in the pockets. Cutting a terry flat in half sounds like a good plan too! I also have some boosters, some are plain hemp, some hemp/microfibre. I love hemp the most though- naturally antibactirial/resistant to mould which is great as I dry pail the nappies. lol at gremily saying "disgustable's" I am so going to use that term now!!!
