Hi My name is Aimee Bennett. I am 22 years old, live in Belgrave and am currently studying a Bachelor of Midwifery at Australian Catholic Universaity. I am in my third and final year of study and as a part of my education I am currently completing 30 'follow through journeys' (FTJ) with pregnant women in the community.

I am studying to be a midwife and are loving every minute of the course. I am looking for women who live in the eastern suburbs (around the belgrave area but i am willing travel quite a distance) who may be interested in participating in the voluntary program and who are due to give birth in the next couple of months. I would absolutly love to share your pregnancy and birthing experience and to meet pregnant women in the community.

The follow through journey is a innovative program developed to provide high quality and real life experiences for bachelor of midwifery students like myself. The concept of a FTJ mean the ongoing relationship between a woman and a student from the initial contact in pregnancy through to the weeks immediatly after the woman has birthed her baby. The follow through journey is a completely voluntary program and women can choose to share as much of their journey and pregnancy as they like with the student. This time spent together can involve times such as attending ante natal appointments together, ultra sound scans, childbirth education classes, having me there as a support person for the labour and birth of the baby or whatever other activities relating to pregnancy and birth that a woman would allow a student to be involved in.

The benifits for women who participate in the follow through journey will be a one on one supportive relationship, which is proven by research to be benificial in positive pregnancy and birthing outcomes. The FTJ allows women to access information and have an extra support person during the times of pregnancy and early parenting.
The FTJ is alo a great way to meet new people and to have someone to share your special experiences with.

If you are interested I will be in contact with you and set up a first meeting which includes the pregnant woman, myself and my mentor. My mentor is a qualified, experienced midwife who guides me in my studies and meets the women to sign them up for the pregram to make it official.

I would love to hear from all women who are interested, no matter the model of maternity care- public, private, homebirth ect. If you choose to be a part of the FTJ your model of care is not affected. The follow through journey is a great way for me as a student to learn from your experience and will help me greatly to become a compentent and confident midwife in the future.

Please also feel free to contact me if I can help you with any more information or if you would like to be a part of the follow through journey.

Look foward to speaking with you!
kind reguards,
Aimee Bennett
