View Full Version : Christmas Singlet Dresses
Just wanted to share this with everyone.
I made a little christmas dress for my little girl - out of a bonds singlet. We live in tropical NT and it will be perfect for christmas and oh so cute.
If you have any ? Please ask.

I think it is an excellent idea, and yours are very cute.
I bought DD#2 a fairy dress made out of tulle and a singlet the other day. I would never have thought to do that.
Wow, they look fantastic! What a great idea.

Same here, I can only really sew the basics. Can you tell us how you have made them, I have a few nieces that they would make fantastic Chrissie presents for.. Looking at the other stuff on your site, you are such a crafty person, wish I had the patience:(..I love the paddle pop christmas trees, mite try that with DS4 for some new christmas decorations..Thanks for the fantastic ideas.

I just had a look at your site too, i love the little red dress you made! I'm sick of putting orders in to my MIL (as she always puts her 'old peoples' spin on them :banghead: ). I'd like to be able to learn some basic things, so i can do them myself.
The bit i don't get with those little dresses, is how to do the gathering at the top of the skirt? Your advice would be appreciated! :)
Hi All,
Thanks for all of our lovely comments.
Mumtofour - they are quiet easy. You just have to have a little patience. The material part is a circle with another circle cut inside of it. The inside circle is the same size as the singlet (the waist of the child) I then just measured out from this and made another bigger circle. I actually cut about 2inches off of the singlet - I find that the bonds singlets are so long! I then just sewed the fabric onto the singlet - stretching the singlet as you go. I also pinned marker pins at four points on the singlet and on the material and lined these up
I hope that this all makes sense to you all. If you have any other ? let me know (I am also willing to make them if interested - send me a PM!)
Shazbut - Little Red Dress is made from a pattern that I found at an op shop (so I am glad to hear that you don't think it has an old person spin on it) But I know what you mean - my grandmother is the same. The gathering is done by running two basting stitches (a large stitch - say a 4 on your machine)
I hope that this helps girls. PM me if you have any further ? or would like any advise
hey tkp02, I didn't know you were "craftedbykylie"! How exciting, about an hour ago I bookmarked your blog, after someone mentioned it in a craft thread! Top job on the skirtinglets, I might just have saved cash on a Christmas present, and it will be more personal!
XGin
I think that the sewing machine is going to have to come out of retirement.

Thanks for that Kylie  ... I think I get what you mean.. I will have to head over to the Bonds Outlet and Spotlight and grab a few for trial runs before Chrissie..
