View Full Version : Naming Ceremony's
hey was wondering if anyone on here has had a naming ceremony for there lil one and if so if they could tell me a il bit about it! also if they know any celebrants in perth!
Hi Sarah,
We had a Naming Day ceremony for our daughter and we will be having a Naming
Day for our new bub. Basically you are introducing your new bub to your family and friends and "officially" naming them. Instead of Godparents you have guardians. If you have been to a christening it is much like that but not religeous.
The celebrant will probably explain to the guardians their roles in your bubs life you might have the grandparents and the guardians say a nice verse for your bub.
It can be as long or short as you like. My sister in law planted a rose bush for her daughter ; we are going to release ballons for our son. I cant help you with celebrants in Perth as I am in Townsville. You can find a list in the yellow pages.
Hope this has helped.
Cheers, PMS

We had a naming day for our dd when she was nine mnths and are intending to do it again with ds. It was beautiful we choase a gorgeous park with a bbq area play area and a few tables and chairs!!! We had MENTORS and explained what they had to do before we fully chose them incase they didnt want to!! Then we chose "a little ray of sunshine" to play at start of ceremony and had our celebrant say and ask a few things!! we had a candle that I had done up and officially named her! Our celebrant had lovely certificates for our 4 mentors and she even bought a cute teddy!!! After wards we all celebrated etc, was heaps of fun oh and made me cry sniff sniff

hey sarah, we had a name day for DD when she was 9 months old, and we had a fairy theme wich was sooo much fun, we had it on my aunt and uncle property, which cost us nothing, we hired a celebrant who was brilliant, she pretty much talked us all the way through the planning, gave us a book with a whole heap of readings and ideas, plus some of the ceremonies she had done previously, so we took bits and peices fom the book added our own things and made it our own ceremony, and to co ordinate with the fairy theme we used "fairy dust" rather than "holy water" (like at a christening) and i siad i cute little reading wishing her luck and good humour.
We had guardians instead of godparents, and as we are not religious in any way, we had no religious references.
I had one of the guardians read a poem and i read a poem as well.
It was such a fun day, with about 50 guests, we jsut did a spit roast late lunch/ early dinner, and my family who travelled to canberra to be there, just bought tents and caravans lol it was a great day and so inexpensive!!
Good luck with ur planning!!! go nuts Have fun with it!!

hey neesh who did you use when you for your naming day?? we want to have one but we want some one good and your lady sounds nice...
was she exspensive??
For my 1st sons naming day i got my best friend the person ive know the longest to do the ceremony.
As theres no legal or religous requirements for a naming day it was perfect it made it so much more personal. She is also so goin to do my seconds sons in a few weeks.
I also asked everyone to where something white to represent his purity and the blanc canvas that his his new life and he can paint on it what he wants.
She just used a ceremony guidelines from her young brothers naming day and we changed it to suit us. Im sure though u u could pull one of the net.
