View Full Version : Data Entry
hi girls, im a sahm, but to top up dhs income i do data entry for a real estate type company, its about 12-15 pw, i can work it around the kids and it brings in an average $280 pw extra, there are lots of companies looking for people to regulary do this type of work, its a bit monotomous, but its easy money and you dont have to get someone to watch the kids. just thought id post this for anyone looking for ideas for legitimate work at home. im afraid i dont have anyl inks to sites or anything, as we fell into this sort of work when the boss advertised the position in the paper dh worked for! anyway im sure if you search job sites on the net lots of this sort of work will come up, does anyone else have any legit stuff they do at home?
I used to do data entry work and WISH that I could get something that I could do to work around the kids. I'm a trained teacher but would prefer the monotony of uninvolved work once again .... Thanks again I'll keep an eye out.
just wondering how you get the data entry work back to the business? do you email it to them or physically take it into the office?
i do it through their website, so it all goes straight there, then i email them an invoice once a wk

(going back to work 2 days a week when she turns one :( )
Wow, that sounds great. I'm pretty fast on the computer (type 80wpm), so that would suit me down to the ground.
Any more info or suggestions would be unreal.

I think Erin does this data entry through a small company (and there would not likely be work for more than one person if I'm reading the posts correctly).
Perhaps call a few places and just see whether they have anything going, maybe try Real Estates or Accountancy firms etc.
phew, ok, i think ive pmed everyone with details :) shelly your half right, the company i work for is quite large, but only have 1 maybe 2 availabilities in each suburban area, so its up to luck whether they have someone working for them in your area or not! good idea though, approaching companies such as real estates, accountants etc :) !
coopsntilly,do you think you could give me the details too? I know we are from the same area, but you never know!! :)
sorry i forgot you butterfly! have pmed you with details :)

Hi, Sorry I misread the posts.
If there is a chance that there might (and I use the word lightly) be something in my suburb can I please have the details PM'd to me as well. Much appreciated.
Hi Erin
I know that it is probably unlikely that there is any work here, but could you please give me some info on the company that you do data entry for, as I am also looking for something to do from home!
I have many years of data entry experience and am happy to sit and push buttons for long periods of time ... it is kind of cathartic, iykwim!
I had a great job lined up in Sydney but had to move a few weeks later so that went by the boards.
What kind of speeds and accuracy are they looking for? I have 15000 kdph and 98% in alpha/numeric and 18500 kdph and 100% in numeric ... well, at least this was when I was tested about 18mths ago after having been out of the workforce for a few years.
thanks heaps ...

Why don't you guys try an agency?
My mother is a medical secretary, and I remember she would sometimes have extra work from other doctors typing up reports. It was done through a dictaphone they would send her the tapes and she would send back the finished reports - easy peasy. She still does it now for extra cash.
Try medical staff agencies I suppose. They do like you to have some idea of medical terminology, but no one tests you on it and you could pick it up quickly.
Sorry to be a pain coopsntilly, but could you pm me some info too. I tried to pm you , but you're at your limit!
Much appreiciated

sorry me too pls!
I'll start to look around myself also. I'm in a country town so it's hard to find a job that is "worth" going to once you take childcare payments out and taking into account i want to be with her all the time.
I'll let you know if i find anything else out.
I'm going to speak to temp agencies and look around on Seek to start with.
hi everyone, just wondering if any of you have got in touch with these guys yet and had any luck?

Hi - Can you please pm the info to me as well. If for only to know where to start as I too am going back to work in Jan (I work in a call centre in the public service - please I've heard it all :) (public servants don't work etc - but believe me I did) and am not keen to go back)
DH has been at me for ages to consider doing something from home,
AAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! I hear you say :)
surely there is something like this down here in melbourne. if so where do you look.
start with employment agencies, tell them what you are interested in and they will let you know of what comes up. also most places on the net that use data which needs to be constantly updated (realestate sites for sale/lease, cars for sale sites, holiday destinations/hotels etc) are worth approaching and asking them if they have any work available, they often have a high turn over of staff as the work can be pretty monotomous, but it is easy good money, so just get out there and go for it!!!!

Hi Erin,
I'm sorry to be a real pain, especially after you've had so many requests....but, would you mind sending me the details too???
I have also heard (read somewhere) that some of the uni's will send out reports etc to be typed up. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. But it's something I'm going to also check out.

hi
just thought i'd let everyone know about another little idea for getting data entry work you can do at home.
For Brissie ladies: the psychology department at UQ and other uni's often has an enormous amount of data entry that needs doing (from survey questionairres mainly). i know of only one lady who a few academics and postgrad students regularly use. she gets close to $30 per hour!!!!!!! she has a computer program on her computer called SPSS that academics use to enter and analyse data but it is compatible with Excel, so you could arrange to enter the data in Excel; they can copy and paste this into their little program!!!! (You could buy SPSS at some stage if your business took off like hers did - it's not dear!!!)
you would need to take some initiative on this by calling the School of Psychology at UQ and other unis (Griffith, QUT) and saying you want to make yourself known to the academics and postgrads that you are available for data entry work and how should you best go about getting the word out there. they might allow you to have a group email address which you could use to send a kind of advert with your contact details letting people know you exist!
If you were keen on this, you would also do well to contact Business and Management Schools/Faculties as they also often conduct large-scale survey research.
I am certain universities in other states (UNSW, Uni of Sydney, Uni of Melbourne and other big ones) would have a similar situation in their psych/mgt/business departments.
Anyway, just a thought - it's a niche that I have noticed needs filling (they are always trying to con busy 4th year and postgrad students into doing data entry work, but they are often not interested).
PM me if you have any Qs about this that I *might* be able to help with. :p
I shoudl mention too that this kind of work might be a bit intermittent, so not to be relied on on a weekly basis until you have really built up a big database of clientele.
rachel
p.s. $30 an hour is quite a lot but this lady is really fast. starting out you might want to charge a bit less
another idea, if you are a fast typer is advertising your services on uni notice boards etc, offering to type up essays, assignment etc, my cousin did this for yrs when her kids were little :)
