Hey
My DD is 7 1/2 months but was prem (corrected age 5 months) in the last month or so we have started her on some solids just pureed pear and apple once a day. We have noticed that she has been throwing up alot lately. She is not in pain she never screams or anything she just throws up.She is on S26 Gold.
Could this be the formula?
She has been on this formula since birth so could she be ready for the next step formula?
Although she is only 5 months corrected is it ok to start next step formula?

Dear Kyles84

My understanding on the follow-on formula issue is that your bub doesn’t need to change formula just because she is around 6 months old. Infant or stage 1 formulas can be more like breast milk, while follow-on formulas can be more like cow’s milk. While the energy content of the formula types is usually the same, follow-on formulas can have more protein and added vitamins and nutrients – but these added extras usually come from the introduction of solids.

I would also say that it is very unlikely that your daughter would suddenly be having difficulty with the formula type because she is a bit older. Given her prematurity and her current vomiting, it would only confuse things to try changing formulas now – it could make the cause of her vomiting more unclear.

To begin with, you could try simple things such as plan rice cereal (a low reaction food) and trying to give small amounts of puree before a bottle / after a bottle to see if these changes make any difference.

Finally, your bub could simply be unwell or teething at the moment. If your little one continues to vomit – with or without small changes to her solids, then you should take her to see a child health nurse or doctor.
