My daughter is turning 13 early in December...Being her 13th birthday, she wants to have a party... She wants both her friends and family/friends there... My question is how do I incorporate our family/friends and 8 x 13 yr olds together with games and everything???

Any  would be greatly appreciated...would like to start getting it all organised

Thats a tricky one!
Remembering back to my 13th party I had a pool party, Im not sure if you have a pool so if it will be able to happen. I also had my family there and they all just helped out with the organisation of everything with my parents, like the food etc. Also dad, my uncle and my grandpa organised the games and chose games that were specific with needing three to help out. Sorry I cant be much help but Ill keep thinking and might get back to you!

For my 13th birthday, my friends and I stayed in a tent in our backyard and basically did "girly" things. There was plenty of food, music, makeup/nailpolish, games and best of all - no parents, little sister or specified bedtime!

Because everything was laid on, we didn't want to sneak off anywhere and we just had a heap of fun together.

The evening started out with a bbq with friends and family and then progressed ino the the girly night. The next day we all went swimming and then it was time to head off home. It was a great time and I remmeber it well.

Thanx babylover111 & Kyra for your replies..

We don't have a pool so the pool party is out...but great idea...
I remember my 13th birthday and I did pretty much the same you Kyra, but she doesn't want a slumber party, just to have one or two of her friends stay over the night, but not all of them.. I can't remember what sort of games they play at 13 yr olds parties  ...

Kyra, my 13th birthday party was just like yours - my best friend's parents erected their massive 10-person ex-army tent in our backyard, and we (the 13-year-olds) were able to go either in there or in the spare bedroom to watch videos and have our private 'girly' time, while the adults gathered around the BBQ - it was a fantastic party, and having that "separate" space really helped.

To my memory, we didn't have games, we went to the video store together and chose the movies we wanted to watch. "Blue Lagoon" was one of them ;) .

For my 13th birthday, my friends and I stayed in a tent in our backyard and basically did "girly" things.

It looks like this is maybe one of the things to do...She is having about 8 girls at the party, but she wants only a few to stay...We have an 8 person Tent that we will be able to set up and we bought her a new TV and DVD for her birthday, so it will be a trip to video ezy to pick out some movies.

Thanks for the suggestions

My DD is turning 13 in mid January, and we are having a BBQ with 10 x 13 year olds (mixture of boys and girls), plus 8 adults and 6 kids.

We'll be letting them run wild with Super Soakers and Waterbombs in the backyard, and will have a table with food and drinks, and a CD Player. Meanwhile, we'll be relaxing (ha!) by the BBQ with some wine and cheese.

If you have a PS2, Singstar is a great ALL-AGES party game.

I also suggest going to a club bistro, and letting the big kids have a table of their own, and having a family and friends table for you guys.

This is cheaper, shorter and tidier. It's also good if your local club caters for kids!

Good Luck:fingerscrossed:

my daughter was 13 last November and she had a party. The kids basically danced and mucked around, the boys played air hockey and had a great time. My dd didn't want to plan any games etc just to let them be themselves. Maybe your dd could give you some ideas herself.
Good luck. 13 is tough age. Too young for this and too old for that iykwim.

I think you should be really happy that she wants to spend time with both her family AND her friends... :fingerscrossed: she'll still be like that at 16!

I dunno if it's something she'd be interested in, or it's something you'd be interested in arranging... BUT...

There are these party kits called "How to Host a Murder." I first played one at 14/15... this particular one was targetted at teens, not adults.

You basically have a bunch of characters, everyone comes in costume (either put together at home, or costume-hired, depending on the theme), and eats dinner. You act in character too (which can be very fun).

You go there, "knowing" that someone you all know (well, someone all your characters know anyway) was murdered - and that one of you did it! The question is: who?!

You get bits of "info" throughout the night both about your character, and the other characters...and the finger pointing begins. Who did it?

After each meal course, you get to find out more clues/info. After dessert, you all say who you think did it... and finally, it's revealed who the culprit was!

It's pretty overwhelming organisation-wise, but it's massively fun. I'd even have those parties now if I didn't have DD and had enough people to invite.

What about high tea?

Several pots of tea, finger food and everyone gets dressed up for a very fun afternoon tea. Then they can move on to girly type things and leave you to your wine :)

I think the tent idea sounds great! Put some decorations up, a bunch of pillows and blankeys! ahhh, Well I would fall asleep. But surely 13 year olds will have a ball. I remember having little parties like this when I was younger.:)

I can't wait to start planning birthday's for my little Chloe! :D

Thanks everyone for your ideas...

Looks like the tent idea has won the race...I didn't even mention it to her:eek: Apparently they were talking about it at school and she come home yesterday and said that on the Saturday she wants to set up the tent and then have 4 girls stay the night, then have a BBQ lunch with family & friends on the Sunday..
It makes for a hectic weekend:sleeping:, we have our DS4 Christmas Concert on at Kindy then DD12 Dances with FAD and she has her big end of year concert on the same day...But you all become a teenager once..
Again thanks for all your help..

I know you've already decided but for my 13th (all those years ago). I had a party where you had to wear at least 13 pieces of clothing. I remember that being a bit of fun.
I was going to suggest Singstar also, you can hire the game and microphones and PS2 from video stores. Also once adults get a few drinks into them, they'll have a ball. Even Buzz is a good game for young and old. Or the dance mat games.
