Hi there,
Our DS is 15 months old (13 1/2 corrected) and has a cough that just won't go away.He has had it for 2 weeks now.
It sounds a bit wheezy sometimes, and is generally un-productive. Does anyone have experience with asthma in a bub this young??
Both DH and I get asthma, so strong family history.....
I will be taking him to the doc's next week if it doesn't go.
Thanks,
Shelby.

My son has had asthma since he was 6 months old although they wouldn't say it was asthma until he was 12mths cause apparently they don't diagnose asthma under 12mths. Anyway, he used to be really wheezy etc and have attacks but as he has got older his main symptom is coughing, if I don't manage the cough it gets to the next stages ie wheeze and attack. I took him to a paed and he said that the first sign of asthma is coughing.....therefore I would take your little one to the doctor and if you aren't happy ask for a referrral to a paed that specializes in asthma, there aren't many GP's out there that are great with asthma

Hi TwoBoysOnly,
Thank you for replying. Yeah, sounding more and more like it may be asthma. He coughs alot, and it upsets him alot of the time, I feel sorry for him.
I have made an appointment with our GP for tomorrow, and hopefully she will be able to shed some light on it.
I will definately be going back to his pead if Im not happy with what she says. I have read that premmies are more prone to lung problems, and we have been soooo fortunate with his health to date.
Thank you again for your reply,
Take care,
Shelby.

Hi, it sounds alot like asthma to me. All 3 of my girls are asthmatic. Im asthmatic and I thought my eldest had it from about 9 months. She was put on ventolin a few times but they wouldn't actually say yes she has asthma until she was 2. The GP diagnosed DD2 at 6 months and DD3 at 10 months. They also usually start off with the cough. Goodluck at the doctors.

Hi, my daughter started coughing in the morning (lasted for weeks) and ended up in the emergency ward at about 22 months. We have no family history of asthma that we know of, so I would say it does sound like your child has asthma, & with a strong family history it is right to be concerned. Good luck!

it could be asthma or a chest infection like bronchitis. my ds1 has asthma, i am asthmatic (so is 3 of my siblings lol) and dp is asthmatic.ds1 was diagnosed at 14 months take ur bub to a dr to be sure asthma can be fatal if its not treated properly

My DD recently had croup and was very wheezy/rattley. She is still getting over this and has a cough and slight wheeze.
The doctor prescripted predmix, then ventolin for her.
He said that it may mean she will get asthma when she is older. They don't call it that in babies though, even though it looks like asthma and sounds like asthma??

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the replies, took DS to the docs and he has ear infections:thumbsdown: so more antibiotics......:( as for the wheezing and coughing, he didn't have a wheeze when we saw her, and she thinks the cough is caused by stuff going down the back of his throat.
She said its quite possible he may have asthma, but not a concern at the moment, but to go straight back to her if any doubts.
So I am ok with this for the moment, he has improved alot in the last few days, so hopefully things are looking up!!!:)
Thanks again for the support,
Shelby.
