View Full Version : Pockets & AIO Leaking Around Waist?

Can anyone help me with a nappy dilemma at the moment. DS is a biggin' and I have noticed all of his nappies (Peapods, Green Kids, Ittibittis) seem to roll down around the front of his belly and the waistband of his pants are getting wet. He has a pretty big pot belly (hoping he'll work this off when he is walking) so his nappies tend to sit quite low.

Has anybody else had this problem. I thought maybe I'm stuffing them too far forward if that makes sense, and maybe I should leave some room at the front-top and make them tighter around the waist, so they don't fold in with the waistband of his shorts.

I hope this makes sense and if anybody can lend me their expertise I would be grateful.

Thanks muchly:yes:

Just one thought - for babies who aren't really average proportions in terms of waist:thigh ratio, sometimes a side snap style nappy and wrap can help. That way you can have the waist setting on the large side while still having it nice and snug at the thighs.

My lad never really got big in the belly, but in his skinny-thighed, no-so-skinny-belly phase I actually found prefolds and flats really useful, done up low on the hips.

I found most cotton blend pants kinda annoying over some boosted nappies (eg night nappies) because of the tendency to sometimes fold (or be pushed!) inside the top of the nappy. Solved here with a switch to wool shorties, or polyester boxers, or fleece longies at night.

 I have a few different covers that I use over my flats and the only one that doesn't roll down under DD's tummy is the side snapping one. I have Itti Bittis, Pea Pods and Fruitsalad nappies (no Green Kids yet), and don't have any probs with them rolling down.

I'd definatly try something with side snaps

Now they are leaking everywhere!!!! Because it is all my nappies I figure it must be a repelling problem.

My daycare centre uses nappy rash cream on him (not sure why), and I just stuck one of them under a tap and the water is just pooling on top of the fleece, and for quite a while. So off with the dishwashing detergent and hot water I go to strip them.

Thanks very much for your help though!!!!!

hmmm... aside from the fact that it is affecting the way your nappies are functioning... I would find out why the heck they are using creams and what they are using? there are some balms that dissolve in washing much easier than others, and some creams also leave stains. And, it's much better for their skin to breathe properly rather than be caked with impermeable membranes to stop airflow. Maybe they do it by default because their disposable babies need it?

He is the only bubs in the nursery in cloth (I'll try not to get my soapbox out!!!) so I think it is by default. It must be quite thick as I have noticed it on my peapods after I have washed them.

I had also noticed that my pocket nappies (not the inserts) were a bit whiffy after washing (hot wash with an eco detergent) so presuming this cream is holding in the smell maybe???

Anyway I gave them a really good clean with dishwashing detergent (washed each one by hand first off to scrub the cream out) and then a hot wash, cold rinse.

The first one of the morning is functioning brilliantly and the smell is gone!!!! Thanks again for your help.

I'll ask them to refrain from the cream in future. The only reason he would get a rash is from a disposable anyway - cloth keeps his little bot rash free!!!

Hope you all have a great day.:smiliedance:
