Chemical Pregnancy

This is probably a stupid question but I'm going to ask anyway.

As far as I know a chemical preg is when the egg fertilises but never implants, right?
But I saw a post where someone said that a chemical preg can cause symptoms and even cause a + HPT which later shows up negative. But as far as I know HCG (to cause symptoms and show up on a HPT) isn't produced until the egg actually implantsin the uterus.
I'm :confused: so can somebody please clear this up for me.

Hi Mim, I had a chemical pg and i got 3 positives on HPT and then i got a negative blood test. I have read in an American site about chemical pg's that it does implant but something went wrong with the cell division which causes a miscarriage. Most times people dont even realise that they have had a chemical pg because they have their AF. The only reason that they are becoming more common is because HPT's are picking up pg earlier. The other reason that people know that they have had a chemical pg is because they have lots of signs of being pg and so they go and test. I had all the signs of pg and i tested that's why i found out. AF normally happens a bit later and heavier if they have had a chemical pg. I hope that helps answer your questions.

Hi mim no you didnt upset me, it was obviously meant to happen. I believe that everything in life has a purpose and obviously this baby wasn't meant to be. Hopefully this month im lucky and then ill be able to move onto the expecting threads.

do all chemical pregnancies show negative on a blood test?

i am having a wee stress cause apparently i am about 3 weeks preg but have no symptoms or anything. AF will be due in about 3-4 days so guess would know then.

Have done 8 hpts and had positive bloods. But still cant help but be nervous

I have had a positive blood test which was a chemical pregnancy but my levels were really really low by the time i had the blood test. They were 10 which picks up on the urine test as positive but it was very very faint and didnt change into darker lines over the week i was PG- couldnt stop testing!!!!! and then when they did the quantatative HCG it was only 10. I was spotting by this stage and a few days later AF showed up full blown. I had PG symptoms tho, tired, headaches, cramping slightly and implantation bleeding so i dont think not having symptoms will mean anything.
Did you have a quantatative level done???

Sorry if this seems negative but its not meant to, i am thinking your levels must be at a normal level or they would be concerned!

i had a quantitative one which showed 2-3weeks post conception which would be about right. I think i need to get to that 6 weeks scan until then i will not relax

I know what you mean!! Just enjoy it- easier said then done i know but i was so paranoid the whole time that there was something wrong that it wasnt enjoyable or a happy time because i was always making it a negative one. Subsequently this time DP has banned me from testing till at least a week and a half after AF is due!! Driving me crazy.... only 7 days to go.

You and bubby will be fine. Go out by yourself something nice and have a meal with your partner- try and get your mind off it. Not long to go till 6 week scan!
