did you have an engagement party if at all?

DP and I are unofficially engaged atm, hes proposed, I've accepted but we are still searching for the ring and then hes going to propose officially at which time we will announce it to the family (for now we just taunt them all with it because they're all dying for us to get married lol)

We will be officially engaged by christmas however and I know the IL's will have a party for us..but once again wondering if there is a 'tradition' with when its normally held! And what everyone else does these days!

Yeah thats what I want lol Just wondering how things usually work! It would really come in handy if I'd been to more weddings in my life time! lol I was flower girl in 3 when I was too young to remember and I've only been to 3 over the past 3 years and none inbetween! Why can't more of my friends and family get married so I can see how it works! lol

We got engaged June 2000 and the engagement party was November 2000 so 5 months later.

We are not engaged yet but know what date we are getting married. I know weird huh??!!

Anyways when we are officially engaged we will be having a party probably about 2-3 months after just depending when it is we get engaged if it was say right on easter or cristmas we would put it off just so people are happy about us not whatever occassion it is at the time.

we are having our party in 3 weeks! DF popped the Q about 2 months ago :)
but there is PLENTY of time to get married !! Gotta party first!!

lol yeah we arent officially engaged but know the date (tho we arent telling anyone IRL yet), have almost decided the location... etc etc etc lol

We never had one. We aren't social people, plus I was still in highschool, so we just didn't bother.

We aren't engaged but want to get married eventually. Probably when we are more stable....like when we by our first house. Getting married costs so much so we want to put more important things first.

We got engaged september last year, had our engagement party november last year and are getting married september next year!!!

We had a big party for our engagement at my ma's DPs house. My ma decorated the outdoor area (big area around pool etc) with candles, flowers, fairy lights and made loads of yummy food everyone just had a great time and DF and I loved it!!!

Just do what YOU and DF want!!! And you will be fine.

Congratulations on your unofficial engagement. Its such an exciting time in your life - planning a wedding.

We never had an engagement party, just decided to get married and set about planning the big day.

You just need to do whatever makes you and your partner happy. Ive been to lots of weddings, but not too many of my friends had engagement parties. Whatever you want to do these days is okay in my experience.

We had the engagement party and then a year to the day that he proposed we were married in Vanuatu. We came back and had a wedding party for everyone to share in our celebration.

We got engaged on the way to Tassie and instead of a engagement ring, we just chose our wedding bands once we got there. We didn't have an engagement party- we had our wedding 4 months later! That took enough organising! :smiliedance:

PS- That was nearly 5 years ago- and guess what?! I just got an engagement ring!!! :yelclap:

I believe the 1st year is the most important year to breastfeed the lil one and the milk looses its quality after that time too. It just becomes a habbit after that. I plan to wean my 11 month old soon I just don't know how because he wont sleep through the night without getting up 3/4 times for a feed(if you can call it that). I started solids when my lil man was 4 months old but the health pros will recommend 6 months.

This is what we really wanted to do we got unofficially engaged (minus ring) officially engaged in July... engagement party in Sept got pregnant two weeks later were plannnig for an April/May wedding but decided to move it forward to Feb, I kept asking now DH if we just elope he agreed except had really strong opposition from In-laws so kept weeding in Feb now have a boy and a girl funny thing was SIL got married 13 months after us got engaged 2 weeks before our engagement party and had engagemnt party that loiterally was like a practice wedding reception but then had a long engagement we think its a personal thing (though by the end INL's were trying to SIL to go elope a her wedding cost way more than ours (like four times more)...

BTW our engagement party was just a small party at INL's house they knew latin dancing so taught everyone some moves and we all had lots of fun! Low key tends to have more people mingling and less expenxive!!

Well we didnt have time for a party.

He proposed 14th Feb 06, we got married 25th march 06.... We are going to have a 'wedding' (more like the one i always dreamed of, compared to the one i got) later on...

DH proposed on 28th November 05, but we were working in QLD and had to wait til we were back at home in WA for a party. We had a huge party on 19th January with 80 ppl, then our wedding with 12 ppl on the 8th April.

we're not officially engaged yet although we bought the ring on saturday ( i now have to wait for DP to propose) but we won't be having an engagement party. we live a long way away from family and we'll be moving further away in the next couple of months. we're not planning to get married for a couple of years either, need to buy a house first. i totally understand not knowing much about weddings, as i haven't been to a wedding in over 4 years and i'll be the first of friends to be engaged.

We got engaged in February 2002 and held our engagment party in May 2002. We got married in October 2003.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules, you should just do what suits you :thumbsup:

we got engaged in october 1997 had a layed back (bbq) engagement party in dec 1997 at my sisters house as we were living there.
Got married in 2001, pretty layed back wedding too, everyone still talks about our wedding saying it was so nice and easy going, less stressful that way I feel.

In the end you do what you feel is best for you and your family unit.

We were engaged in November and had the engagement party in February, so about 4 months later. However we didn't get married for another 14 months (had to save up)

We wanted to spend all our money on the wedding... also we have too many friends from differnt parts of OZ and we wanted them at the wedding more than engagement party!!! We were married 11 months after becoming engaged! ;-)

We got engaged in July and had our party in September 05. We got married in March 06.
The engagement party was really great (although I wasn't looking too forward to it- don't like being the center of attention) and we got a lot of presents that really helped us out because we didn't have a lot of household things.
But we had quite a small wedding (which I have heard isn't polite- you're apparently supposed to invited everyone who came to the enagagement party to the wedding but because we got married on the beach we couldn't.) And so we had a lot of people very angry about the wedding, which ruined the day a bit. But our fault I guess... :thumbsdown:

We got engaged on 16th March, 2001 (on my hubby's birthday, and also the first day we moved into our new house), and married 10th March, 2002. Ours was also a small beach wedding, only 14 people were there. Definitely had more than that at the engagement party (May, 2001 in Mum and Dad's backyard with 50 people!) We had a party after our honeymoon, so it made everyone a bit happier!:party:

We have been engaged since november 13th 2004, when i was 6 months pregnant, we never had an engagement party, and we still haven't set a date as yet, though we would like to get married late 2007 early 2008, lots of time to plan things! Again as one of u said, we have a lot of friends and family who live all over the place and would rather them make the trip for the wedding rather than an engagement party.

My Hubby asked me on july 27th 2001, as he knew that day fell on a saturday the following year. So we got married exactly a year later. We had our engagement party in the October.

He proposed at Christmas, and we had a full-blown, 300 people engagement party in April.. We had a tiny wedding, with umm, about 20 people, if that, then went out to dinner, we were engaged for 1 year, 1 week.. our first was born 16 days before our wedding.

we got engaged in the february and had our enagement party in the april... it was a big family affair we invited absolutely everyone.. and all our friends.. we did this as we only wanted a small wedding so at least we had them all here for something... we did a big party at home.. nothing too over the top but it was really nice... congratulations :):)
