what would you do with this scenario that happens to us quite a bit.. Ds will fall asleep in the car often around that 4-5 mark and will have been asleep in car for 30-40minutes before we reach destination ect

Normal bedtime is 6:30-7pm - do you then keep him later because he had a sleep in the car - or just put him down at "usual" time???

How about watching his cues and putting him to bed when he's tired? Babies give off pretty good clues, the last of which is crying (same with hunger - their last signal for food is to cry). My son has never had a set bed time because I don't either. I don't need to go to sleep at exactly the same time every night, and neither does he. It depends on how much he's run around, how long his day sleep was, did he snatch a catnap in the car, that kind of thing. Once he's tired, his dad changes his nappy and puts his jamies on and we all go to bed. Pinky Mckay's website has great info on watching babies' cues for sleep :)

It depends on how tired they are at bed time. Nathan's normal bed time is 7:30, but I don't have a problem letting him stay a bit later if he has a late nap - or Daddy stirs him up. But 8:30 is the limit. Routine is a big thing and it helps out your sanity a lot ;)

Tayla has almost an identical pattern - basically after her cat nap late in the arvo, I might take her for a walk and give her a good play and when she displays cranky signs, she gets put in the bath and then bottle and bed! Most times she is still tired around the 630 mark but lately she has skipped the nap and she is in bed by 630 after a bath and bottle.

We have consistency in that she is never an hour off her going to bed mark and we judge by her grizzling. If we have to work overtime to keep her happy or amused then we know it's bath time!
