View Full Version : I am new in Melbourne-need advice
Hi all,
I just moved to Melbourne in April 06. I am now pregnant with no. 2 and honestly i am still not sure whr i will be going although i have made my first appt with box hill hospital. I've read some of your post and thr are good and bad stories.
Ok i think i am gonna start with whr i live, i live in Ringwood and we havent got any private cover so i guess i am going public unless there are some complications with the pregnancy. I heard Royal Women Hospital is great but just a bit too far for me as this is my 2nd pregnancy i guess i might dilate faster than the first one.
So can somebody suggest other hospitals that are not too far away from Ringwood and with good facilities please.
Thanks a lot!!
:)
Janelle - welcome!!!!!! Royal womans has a bad rap!
Box hill has an awesome reputatio so i say stick with it!

Had our first son at Birralee (Box Hill) and I couldn't fault them!
We even went back for Jesse's 1st birthday and had our photo taken with our favourite midwife...that should tell you something!
Had our second son at Mitcham Private and the majority of the midwives there could learn a thing or two about bedside manner from the angels at Birralee!!!

Hey Janelle, Rhiannon here...long time no speak! Congrats on your pregnancy - when are you due?
I am going to Mitcham Private this time round and I am seeing Dr Jason Clark (he goes to knox, mitcham and boxhill).
I had Jason with Isabella and he was unbeleivable. I couldnt speak more highly of him he is fantastic.
I went to knox last time and it was average.
Knox and Mitcham are both close to you and boxhill is that extra bit out, but it depends if you have private health or are a public patient.
Goodluck with whatever and whoever you choose.
You are lucky to be living so close to the hospital. We now live about 40 - 45 mins away from Mitcham private, so I am going to have a long trip while in labour.

Hi Raz,
Good to hear from you. i tried to log in to BK few months ago and cant login and hasnt been trying again as i was busy with work. I am 7 weeks pregnant but want to decide which hospital to go soon as i am going oversea for 3 months.
Unfortunately i dont have private cover and i might enquire about getting private room. Dont think it's really worth spending 5-6 thousand on giving birth..rather use the money for holiday :)
From the recommendations i think i'll stick with birralee..thanks girls

I'll second or maybe even third Birralee..
I had all four bubbies there and they are brilliant. I much prefered Ruby team because the first two times i was in Green team and erm.. lets just say that i couldn't understand most of the midi's from Green team IYKWIM.
Hi there Janelle, I'm going private but I have heard mixed things about Birralee. I have heard great things about the Mercy in Heidelberg and that should take you about 20 minutes or so to get there from Ringwood.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck

Hi Janelle.
I had both Ryan and Hayden at Box Hill and they were fantastic! I would reccomend them to anyone. I agree that i would much rather spend $5000 on a holiday than a few days in hospital!

You have two close options for public if you live in Ringwood.
Box Hill Hospital (Biralee) or the Angliss Hospital in Ferntree Gully. Both of these hospital belong to the Eastern Health Network.
Ask the hospital lots of questions and see if you can have a tour before making your decision.
