View Full Version : When did pockets work for you?
Olivia is 4 weeks old (am not exactly sure how much she weighs... she was 8lb 4oz at birth and I am sure she has put on a good amount of weight) and I tried one of the GK pockets in my stash for the first time the other day, and I had my first leak (with poo AND wee :gloomy: ). Normally I use BB hemp on her, and they work great (I also have some other fitteds that work well). Everyone on here raves about pockets, but for us they are just not working. I am assuming this is because they are too big at the moment.
So my question is... do you think I will ever like them? (I love the cute patterns.. maybe I just need to get some cute covers)....
At what age did they start to work on your LO's?
Who here prefers fitteds to pockets?
Newborn poos are pretty explosive, it is best to use a fitted and cover in my opinion as they have an extra layer of protection. Green Kids are a one size and because of that there is some compromise on the ends of the scale, newborns and older toddlers. Just hang on to them and try them in a few weeks.

Isaac is five weeks old on Friday, and we have been using pockets on him since he was about two weeks old. He WAS a big bub at birth though - 8 pounds 11 ounces:eek:
I LOVE my GK pockets and haven't had any leaks so far - and Isaac sure knows how to wee and poop!
When I first put a GK on him I didn't think that there was anyway that it would fit, let alone contain all of his poo. But I was wrong!

As Mel said - give it a couple of weeks and then try again. I'm sure that once you have the hang of them you'll love them too!
Let us know how you go.
Couple more weeks. At first the bulk put me off, but now they are great. From about 6 or 7 or 8 weeks (I can't remember, sorry) they start to look a bit less bulky.
I was overstuffing them as well at the start.
Hang in there.

I do prefer fitteds over pockets on a whole....
In saying that pockets work really well for daytime use with my DS1 who is 18mths old but my DS1 who is 5mths old they don't work quite as well yet...
I would maybe leave the pockets for a little bit and try them again later on!

I tend to put my Bamboo Baby Behinds with a cover on Ariene first thing in the a.m when I know that I super-poo is on its way. From then on, it's pockets stuffed with old flannellette nappies for the rest of the day! I think that the material in fitteds has more 'grab' when it comes to slippery fully-breastfed poos and keeps it where it needs to stay! Jmo anyway...
Still havn't worked out how to make a BBB or a GK last overnight....

With my BBB for over night I use both snap in boosters and also add one of their hemp boosters and now use the bummis super whisper cover. It is all good here - no leaks!

I started Ella in GK's when she was 4 months. I have had no dramas!
Thanks everyone :)
I am not sure that DH will let me get any more nappies anyway (but we only have 24  .. mostly BB). He has decided that he hates any nappies with velcro... I have a couple (just cheapies, with cheap velcro) that have snagged things. He was the one during the pregnancy who said he preferred the pockets!
I think I will try the GKs again in a few weeks, and see how they go... bulkyness doesn't bother me, just leaky poo's!!

Sorry Ikis, off topic,
I use BBB with a bamboo fold up booster- I got it from BB too-with both inserts and a woolen wrap or wool soaker
Never had a prob going from about 7pm to 7am.

as others have said ikis, sometimes waiting even a week can mean a too-big nappy is now the right size.
an easy way to make sure the nappy is on tight enough to prevent leaks is to push bubs knees up to their chest - if the leg holes gape, you'll get leaks. i also stick a finger in the side of the leg hole sometimes to see how tight the elastic is .... hope that helps :)

Hi :-) Im not sure how pockets would go on a newbie (didnt get mine until dd was 8 months old) but I find them fab now! Even use them overnight with an extra couple of boosters (dd is a heavy wetter) made of hemp and microfibre and finally we had success!:smiliedance: Until then, it was trial and error and mostly we used a disposable at night until now.So def keep them and try again!
Dont know how the pockets (beetlebums) I have would go re newbie poo- nothing worse than a cot full of excrement!:barf: but we will def try them on the next bubba!
We used terry flats and pilchers for the first 4-5 months (until dd started getting a welt like rash from exposed elastic of the "pilchards" (as dh calls them)
