View Full Version : Q about lifting head when on tummy
Hi Everyone
My 15 week on DD still hardly raises her head when she is lying on her tummy. She can move her head from side to side and may lift it slightly for just a moment but then she screams and cries til she is put back onto her back.
She still has some head lag when she is sitting up too although she can roll over and started doing this at 11 weeks.
Should I be concerned at all? Her cousin is 6 weeks older than her and can lie on his tummy with his head fully up. I know I should not compare her with him but as they are cousins and are with each other a lot it is hard not to!
Thanks for reading
Kate
Some babies develop in some areas faster than others so try not to worry too much... :hugs:
But my DD hated tummy time to begin with and would cry as soon as she was down just about! But we perservered with it, and now at 6 months she would love to be no other way!!
If you are really concerned just ask your CHN or GP :)

Firstly all babies are different so I would not be too concerned...however if you want some peace of mind perhaps ask your GP or CHN.
I was worried that DS couldnt do it at 8 weeks and he hated tummy time so I hardly ever gave him any and I though it was my fault and I had delayed him. :o
Anyway I started giving him tiny little sessions frequently throughout the day...and within a week he was holding his head up like a right pro.
Try sitting with your knees up and lay bub along your thighs facing outwards, you can start up with your knees fairly high then gradually lower them as she gets better.
Also, someone suggested (here on bubhub...thanks!) to me to give him tummy time on the bed and then get down low so bub can see your face...then they dont get so stressed...this worked for me!
How often are you giving her tummy time?
I was doing it every day but as she got so stressed out by it I am now maybe trying 2-3 times a week. Not good on my part I know!
I will try the trick with her on my thighs and see if that helps
Thanks
Hey its ok really!! :hugs: She'll end up loving it
Another thing we did was lie down on the bed on my back and lie bubs on my chest facing me... She always loved being able to see us so close up- often forgot that she was doing tummy time :devil6: LOL :D
Oh and I also bought a tummy time toy thing- where there is a mirror and lights/music in front of them... DD loved that too!!
