I always put my Christmas tree and decorations up on the 1st of December and send my chrissy cards out in the first week of Dec as well.
I am not quite sure what we will be doing this year as we have just moved back to our home town (after living in sunny Brisbane for 7 years) and are currently living with my parents until we can find a house to buy. So I dont want to be treading on my mum's toes by doing anything "my" way.

I put ours up at the end of November or start of December...whenever i feel like it! Always down on January 1 though....bad luck otherwise....:D
we put it up on the 6th of december (DH's birthday is on the 5th and he has a complex about sharing his birthday with christmas , so we put the tree up the day after his birthday) and take it off in the first week of january some time.

We put ours up on the 6th of December...It nearly kills me to wait, but it's DS2's B'Day on the 5th of Dec so I dont think it's fair to combine the 2 events..Let him have his special day first
we put ours up last weekend of nov.
comes down 26th or 27th dec. (before we go on hols)
we have friends that take it down christmas night because when one of the kids was little she cried and cried boxing day morning because santa didnt come again

Why do you want to do it a month early Kel  My boys make enough mess of the tree for the month that its up.. poor thing looks a bit sad around xmas

I will be putting the tree up probably end of this month and the tree will probably come down again on boxing day.
We put ours up the first week end in december and take it down the first week end in january.
I'll probably wait till the 1st Dec - Everyone seems to be talking about Christmas already and the shops are getting stuff up so it does sorta seem like its a lot closer than it is
Ours goes up when the Adelaide Xmas Pagent is on (anyone know the date?) I am an ex adelaidian and thats the date we always put the tree up...go to the pagent and come home to put it up! We take it down on the 1st of Jan....
Usually about 2 weeks before Xmas and take them down new years day.

We put up are tree and decorations up on the 1st December and don't take it down until the 31st of January. I also send my cards and any overseas gifts in the first week of December too.
My birthday is the 23rd of December and it never bother me having the Christmas decorations up :D
We put ours up on the 10th of December. My birthday is on the 9th so when Iwas little Mum thought it was fair to wait till after my birthday to focus on christmas. I guess the tradition has stuck. The decos come down whenever I have time after chrissie or when I can't get away with having them up anymore:o I hate taking them down.

We used to put ours up after my birthday on the second of December, but now I guess we will need to wait until the 16th of December so it is after Blair's birthday. Otherwise the birthday always seems to take a backseat to Christmas and that's not really fair.

As I said my birthday is the 23rd of December. And my Mum, Dad, family and friends never made me feel like my birthday was not as important as Christmas. The only thing we did different was have my birthday party a week before. As a kid I did not care that my birthday was just before Christmas, it just made it more exciting. Heaps of family and friends around and partys to go to. And as you I get older it just gets better. As soon as you say it your birthday, you gets heaps of free drinks when you are out :D

lol.. ya big kid! :p
the Christian tradition..would be taking it down on January 6th. Thats the 12th day of christmas.
It is the day the tree wise men arrived into bethlehem and so jesus was baptised..
HUH??

We put ours up 1st DEC and take down 1st JAN.
When i was little we use to just be to lazy to take it down so it would stay up till about march. LOL.
I just can't wait for Christmas this year for some reason.

Not before the start of Advent (1st Decmber), and then I like to have it all packed away if we are going away at New Year, otherwise it stays up no later than the 6th of January.
I usually order my fresh Christmas Tree for mid-late december so it still looks good at Christmas.
lol...whats huh???
Its just a christian tradition..sorry didnt mean to offend just thought I woudl add it in..
Its the last day of the celebrations..
not offended just wondering where that came from?
:smiliedance: 1st of Dec. :smiliedance:
and I "try" to take it down the 1st of Jan
Ooooh i have a Q..
How much do you guys spend on the tree + decorations?:D

:) Great post I love xmas and now that my son is here its going to be even more fun. I am dieing to put the decos up and if i was still in my own place i would most proberly be doing it very soon but we are living with my parents until after xmas i think so we will have to wait until they are ready i want to make my own xmas cards with ds sitting in front of the tree so hopefully mum will let us decorate a week or 2 early but for her its usually the 1st of dec. I cant wait for our first xmas as a family so heres hoping i can hold out for another month. Gee only one month to go wow has time flown
Ooooh i have a Q..

$50  Im not allowed to spend much til we have our own house. Im thinking this year I will secretly buy stuff when DP isnt around:devil6::D
no probs..sorry must have been a little vague..as usual.
The Ephiphany or little christmas is the date in which the 3 wise men arrived at bethlehem to see the newborn baby.
It is then he was baptised and so ends the christmas celebration.
the christmas celebration is tradionally 12 days long form the 25th december - the birth to the date the wise men arrived.
oh right. wonder why I dont know that??
$50  Im not allowed to spend much til we have our own house. Im thinking this year I will secretly buy stuff when DP isnt around:devil6::D
lol.. thats about what a i spend too :o
We put our tree up early Dec and we try to take it down early Jan.
Jan is a HUGE birthday month in our family so it doesn't seem relevant to still have the Christmas tree up then!
Although I do postpone taking it down for as long as possible because I just absolutely love the festive season!

I refuse to put up any christmas deco(outside the house that is) until there is snow darn it! Its not the same! (I grew up in Alaska, beautiful place for xmas!)
That said I put my tree up around the last week of november, that way, when i need more tree decorations, i can still buy them cheap ;)
I take the stuff down boxing day :o

There are a lot of us who put up on Dec 1st and take down on Jan 1st, there has to be some sort of tradition coming from somewhere!

does anyone have any tips on keeping our trees and presents safe from walking/distructive children. I can just see it now that elise will pull off every decoration in her reach and then the tree will probably get pulled down onto herself in the process....scary stuff!!
Firstly we have to take down the lights from the front of the house before we can put them back up...LOL. Have been up now for 2 years:eek:
Have told DH that they need to come down after this xmas as DD and I need to have a good ol' chuckle at him putting them up next year...

this year we wont be putting much up at all, we move dec 15th so would have to pull it all down again and put it back up and in all honesty I think we will have enough to unpack without trying to decorate as well! The kids can enjoy the christmas decorations and whatnot at there grandparents houses as we are there enough anyway so they wont miss out lol

I was actually going to ask this same question.....but maybe start a new thread? ---- does anyone have any suggestions?
My DD turned 13 months today.....she is very mobile & inquisitive, so I can see how a nice big shiny xmas tree will look to her - it will be pulled down and dragged all thruout the house in a second :devil6:

we gave up our kitchen table for 2-3 weeks when dd1 was 12 months and put it on there (took chairs to garage )
we have used a but found toddler could shake it enough for the decorations to shake.
i used a wooden play pen the last time i had a toddler around my tree. the kids can still reach into the playpen so i put the tree on a toy box to make it higher.

There IS a thread about this, but we will also give up our dining room table for the tree and pin the chairs between the table and wall so they can't be used to climb up to it. I'm hoping that works...
Tree will go up Dec 1 and down some time the week after new years'.
Pest Control ppl are coming to do the house on thursday- I just know the box my tree is in contains 100's of red-backs- what do ya think my chances of getting them to unpack my tree for me is? If I smile sweetly?? :D
Hmm leaving the tree till after DD's birthday isnt a option for us as she was born December 21st. But I will always make sure that she never feels like she is sharing her day, the tree wont matter.
We usually put it up 1st Dec but it dosnt come down till mid Jan. Next year it will be late Jan when we get back from our 6 week holiday in NZ...woohooo
The kids gifts are being left here to be opened when we return rather than taking to NZ and paying excess luggage on the way back.

We always put our tree up on the first Sunday in December. Don't know why, but I'd say as mum also worked, it was the easiest day for her ;), and I usually take ours down 1st Jan, if not sooner :o.
In regards to cost - I've probably spent $500 on our tree and dec's over the past 8 years - I never buy real expensive stuff, but I need a lot of stuff to cover it (the only downfall of the tree). It's 8 feet tall I think and I have 3 different styles of dec's that I rotate thru the years. I'm still tossing up which 'theme' to go with ... pink/purple; gold or silver.
I was also considering trying the blue shades meaning I'd have to buy another lot of stuff :D , but I'd have to do it without DP knowing and then say I've had the stuff for years
Can't wait to start a thread on piccies of our trees .....
we didnt even have a tree last year... oops. but we're buying one this year and will put it up early december i guess..
the guy across the road(pretty much opposite to our house) has already started on his decorations outside.. looks good though, dd#1 loves it. last year she'd be yelling the lights are on the lights are on! every flippin night!! not quite looking forward to that coz we'd be sitting on the front lawn for a half hour letting her look
 usually Dec 1st but the last couple of years, since Zane and Airlie have been that bit older I like to put it up a bit earlier! I looooove Chrissy!!Although this year Avalon is walking so it may go up later,to avoid the pulling over, ripping presents, pulling decos off etc:laughing:
Ours go up at Advent - four weeks before Christmas, so around 1 December. I never ever put them up before Advent, and I go crazy at the sight of Christmas decorations in town in October!!
Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but October is far far too early.
